“Care?” Gu Xiaoai struggled to lift her left hand, her gaze fixed on the gleaming handcuffs as she let out a cold laugh. “Is this how your Mr. Li shows his concern? Is this how you take care of people?”
Her tone was sharp, almost aggressive.
Housekeeper Tong, at a loss for words, quickly tried to change the subject. “Miss Gu, why don’t you lie back down? I’ll prepare the IV for you.”
“I don’t want an IV,” Gu Xiaoai replied flatly. She brushed past Housekeeper Tong, leaving the bathroom and heading straight to the floor-to-ceiling window instead of returning to the bed. Her eyes settled on the view outside.
Deep Water Bay was a luxurious community, its scenery a blend of human craftsmanship and natural beauty. The view during the day was entirely different from the one at night.
At this moment, the landscape outside was breathtaking.
Gu Xiaoai slid open the floor-to-ceiling window and stepped out onto the balcony to take in the view.
“Miss Gu, you’re putting us servants in a difficult position. If Mr. Li finds out, he’ll be furious…”
“I don’t want an IV,” Gu Xiaoai repeated firmly.
“Then how about eating something? Miss Gu, you haven’t had anything since last night. I’ll have them prepare some porridge.”
“I don’t want to eat.”
“It’s normal to lose your appetite when you’re weak, but maybe some dessert? What kind of sweets do you like, Miss Gu?”
“I don’t want dessert.”
“Miss Gu, you-”
Gu Xiaoai turned around abruptly, her gaze cold and unwavering as she stared at Housekeeper Tong’s troubled face. Her voice was calm but resolute. “Stop asking. It’s exactly as you’re thinking-I don’t want to eat anything.”
If she was going to be confined in the Li Family villa like this, she’d rather starve.
“Miss Gu…” Housekeeper Tong frowned.
Gu Xiaoai was the first woman Mr. Li had ever brought home.
She understood why Gu Xiaoai was acting so prickly today, like a little firecracker ready to explode.
Having worked for Mr. Li for many years, Housekeeper Tong knew Gu Xiaoai wasn’t just any woman to him. But even so, she hadn’t expected Mr. Li to treat Gu Xiaoai like a pet, locking her up like this…
“Please leave,” Gu Xiaoai said, pointing toward the door. When Housekeeper Tong didn’t move, she quickly shifted her finger to the balcony railing, her expression unyielding. “Leave, or I’ll jump.”
Housekeeper Tong stared at her, helpless. After a long silence, she finally gave in. “Fine, I’ll go. But Miss Gu, please come back inside. It’s windy out here.”
With a heavy sigh, Housekeeper Tong turned and left the room.
As the door closed behind her, the determination on Gu Xiaoai’s face crumbled. She turned her gaze back to the scenery outside, her expression unreadable.
