The Arrogant President's Cute Assistant - Chapter 167 - Let's Get Married
Wen Nuan froze for a moment, then broke into a big smile. “Xiaoxi-Jie, when did you start to deceive yourself?”
Had she really started to deceive herself? Ye Ranxi turned to leave; she didn’t want to hear another word from Wen Nuan. If this was true, she hoped to hear the truth from Ling Xiaonai himself.
“Xiaoxi-Jie, I have a photo to show you,” Wen Nuan said as she stepped in front of her, pulling out her phone. She zoomed in on a photo until it was huge on the screen, revealing a bare-chested Ling Xiaonai with a woman beneath him-who seemed to be Wen Nuan herself.
Did such a photo scare her? Hadn’t Linda done something similar before? Back then, she had foolishly believed it. If she believed it again now, it would make her a complete fool.
“Do you really think that report and this kind of photo can fool me?” Ye Ranxi scoffed. “Wen Nuan, are you being a bit too naive?”
Wen Nuan’s face turned red with anger at Ye Ranxi’s words. She hadn’t expected Ye Ranxi to be so smart now; she was surprised that she didn’t believe such a photo. Fortunately, Li Xiaoai had taught her a trick, or she might have been driven away by Ye Ranxi’s words.
“Xiaoxi-Jie, you’re overly confident, don’t you think? I know what Xiaonai-Ge likes to say in bed. Do you know?”
Ye Ranxi was taken aback by her bluntness and glanced at her in surprise.
“When Xiaonai-Ge holds me, he calls out ‘Wen Nuan, Wen Nuan’. Does he call you like that in bed too?” Wen Nuan’s eyes held a mix of innocence and seduction. Any man would surely be entranced by her lovely face.
Ye Ranxi’s mind involuntarily conjured those images… Seeing the photo on Wen Nuan’s phone again, she suddenly felt sick.
“I also know that Xiaonai-Ge loves to enter me in that position from behind… Xiaoxi-Jie, is that how it is with you two too?” Wen Nuan said those heart-racing words with a seemingly innocent look, completely unaware of how explicit they sounded.
“Enough, stop talking!” Ye Ranxi stomped on the scattered documents on the floor multiple times, as if she wanted to crush them to pieces.
She had repeatedly chosen to believe Ling Xiaonai, only to be met with this. Ye Ranxi suddenly felt like the biggest fool in the world, still willing to continue believing in Ling Xiaonai.
Seeing her goal achieved, Wen Nuan opened the photo again for her to see. The floor was strewn with disheveled clothes-some belonging to Wen Nuan, and one was… Ling Xiaonai’s suit.
“Wen Nuan, it’s Xiaonai-Ge who’s always unwilling to take precautions. When I asked him what would happen if we had a child, he said he would take responsibility. Xiaoxi-Jie, I never meant to ruin your relationship, but do you really want to see this child born without a father?” Wen Nuan put on a look of grievance.
In Wen Nuan, Ye Ranxi felt what it was like for a woman to turn against another faster than flipping a page in a book.
If she truly hadn’t intended to harm their relationship, she wouldn’t have ended up in any kind of relationship with Ling Xiaonai in the first place… Ye Ranxi scoffed and turned away, refusing to look at Wen Nuan again. She walked straight back to the hospital room, afraid that she would feel sick.
Seeing that her goal had been accomplished, Wen Nuan stopped pestering Ye Ranxi. Perhaps Xiaonai-Ge would be coming home tomorrow… With this sweet thought, Wen Nuan picked up her bag and left.
Back in the hospital room, Ye Ranxi’s face was pale. She wanted to cry but couldn’t figure out how to let the tears flow.
“Xiaoxi, what happened? Why do you look so pale?” Zhang Ying noticed her complexion had turned white and immediately asked.
Was her expression really that obvious? Ye Ranxi sighed and forced a smile. “Grandma, I’m fine. You should rest well. I’m feeling a bit unwell, so I’ll step outside for a while.”
Zhang Ying thought her poor mood was just from being cooped up in the hospital all day and nodded. “Alright, just be careful outside.”
“Okay.” Ye Ranxi sweetly replied and ran to the roof of the hospital to get some fresh air.
In winter, the cold wind sliced across her face like a knife. Yet, Ye Ranxi felt her heart was a thousand times colder than that wind.
“Why are you up here all alone?” Ling Xiaonai’s voice came from nearby.
Ye Ranxi’s mind was in chaos, and hearing his voice only deepened her sense of frustration.
How foolish she was… Everything Wen Nuan had said was true, and she had foolishly believed Ling Xiaonai’s lies.
Seeing that she didn’t respond, Ling Xiaonai thought she was upset with him for leaving so suddenly. He walked over and gently embraced her. “I had to deal with something important earlier, so I came back late. Are you mad? I promise, from now on you’ll be my priority. I’ll try to push my work aside as much as possible, okay?”
Ye Ranxi forced a smile. How much longer did he think he could keep deceiving her? When he held… Wen Nuan in his arms, did he whisper such sweet nothings to her as well?
“Wen Nuan is pregnant. Did you know that?”
Ye Ranxi really didn’t want to bury everything deep inside her like before. It was exhausting for both of them, wasn’t it? It would be better to lay everything out in the open sooner rather than later.
“Did she come to see you?” Ling Xiaonai had already guessed the turn of events; otherwise, Ye Ranxi wouldn’t have suddenly changed her attitude and given him such a cold look.
Was he only asking because his lies had been exposed? Ye Ranxi scoffed. “Yes, thank goodness she came to see me. Otherwise, I would still be in the dark. Now, what do you have to say?”
“The child in her belly isn’t mine,” Ling Xiaonai explained.
Was that really all he had to say? Ye Ranxi sneered again; apart from that, did he have anything else to add?
“You don’t believe me?” Seeing the disappointment in Ye Ranxi’s eyes, Ling Xiaonai felt his heart sink. His confidence was being chipped away, bit by bit.
If only she could believe him.
“If Wen Nuan were to leave, would you come back to me?” Ling Xiaonai asked tentatively. This was his last chance.
Indeed, Wen Nuan was like a small thorn, constantly pricking at Ye Ranxi’s heart. Although it wasn’t overly noticeable, it still caused her pain from time to time. If this thorn wasn’t removed, she could never feel at ease.
But what exactly did Ling Xiaonai mean by that? Was he really willing to make Wen Nuan disappear for her sake?
“Xiaoxi, give me a little more time. I will give you a satisfactory outcome,” Ling Xiaonai said, staring into her eyes, hoping to make her believe him.
Ye Ranxi didn’t respond, but in her heart, she was already implicitly accepting his words. She wanted to see what kind of method Ling Xiaonai would choose to make Wen Nuan disappear.
“Alright, it’s cold here. Let’s head back, okay?” Seeing her cheeks turn red from the cold, Ling Xiaonai felt a pang of pity and cupped her face with his hand, warming her up a bit.
Ye Ranxi obeyed his words and returned to the hospital room. After ensuring everything was alright here, Ling Xiaonai headed straight back to the Ling Corporation office.
“Xiaonai-Ge, you’re back!” a sweet voice rang out beside him.
Since the last time he had a falling out with his family, Ling Xiaonai hadn’t gone home. Wen Nuan had been waiting at home, feeling like the sky was about to fall without seeing Ling Xiaonai. So, she had no choice but to come to his office to wait for him. Every day she came, she never saw his figure. Finally, today, she had caught a glimpse of him.
Ling Xiaonai glanced at Wen Nuan but said nothing, simply sinking down onto the leather sofa.
Wen Nuan had noticed earlier that his eyes looked bloodshot. It wasn’t hard to guess why; he had been spending all day caring for the elderly woman in the hospital, while also juggling work, which must have left him utterly worn out.
She gently placed her delicate hands on his temples, recalling the massage techniques she had learned in traditional Chinese medicine. Sometimes softly, sometimes with more pressure, she started to massage Ling Xiaonai’s temples. “Xiaonai-Ge, does this feel a bit better?”
Ling Xiaonai didn’t respond, and Wen Nuan took it as silent approval. Encouraged, she pressed harder, unintentionally leaning in closer to him.
He didn’t push her away, only closed his eyes to relax… Did this mean he still had feelings for her?
Feeling emboldened, Wen Nuan nestled further into Ling Xiaonai’s embrace, only to have her hands firmly grasped by him. He suddenly opened his eyes, and unlike the gentle gaze he usually directed toward Ye Ranxi, now there was a glint of anger in his eyes that felt threatening to Wen Nuan.
Did this mean that in his heart, she would never measure up to Ye Ranxi?
“What did you say to Xiaoxi?” Ling Xiaonai’s tone was cold, completely devoid of his usual gentleness.
Did it really matter what she had discussed with Ye Ranxi? If she hadn’t gone to see Ye Ranxi, would he have ever given her a second glance? Probably not.
“I just told her I was having your baby…” Wen Nuan said coyly, leaning against Ling Xiaonai’s shoulder as she spoke. She wasn’t lying; “You know what happened that night…”
Wen Nuan believed that the man she was with was Ling Xiaonai, but it turned out he wasn’t. He had intentionally let her think otherwise.
“Why did you do that?” Ling Xiaonai’s eyes were as still as a pond, revealing that his relationship with Ye Ranxi must have fallen apart.
Wasn’t this exactly what she wanted? Although Wen Nuan wore a look of grievance, her heart felt quite the opposite.
“Xiaonai-Ge, I want to be with you… Can’t you see how much I care about you? Ye Ranxi doesn’t love you at all, you know that. You’ve given her so much, yet received nothing in return, and it pains me to see you like this…” Wen Nuan pressed her entire body up against Ling Xiaonai, noticing that his skin felt somewhat cold. She wanted to share her warmth with him.
They once had such a happy past together, and now that she was pregnant with his child, why couldn’t they just let go of the past and be together?
Ling Xiaonai looked at the little woman beside him. He lifted one hand to her face, his lips parted slightly, and after a long pause, he finally said, “Alright, let’s get married.”
Wen Nuan thought she must have misheard, but seeing the serious expression on Ling Xiaonai’s face made it hard for her to doubt his words.
