The Arrogant President's Cute Assistant - Chapter 159 - I Won't Give Up on Her
Ling Xiaonai still showed no signs of loosening his grip. Instead, he held her hand even tighter, as if he wanted to crush it.
“It hurts…” Ye Ranxi felt her wrist was about to break from the pain, and her little face turned pale.
“Didn’t you hear her telling you to let go?” Han Shengyu shouted at Ling Xiaonai, completely losing his usual composure.
When Ling Xiaonai saw her pale face, he suddenly realized what he was doing and released his large hand that was restraining her. He discovered that her hand already bore a dark bruise.
Ling Xiaonai, what are you doing? You clearly promised not to hurt her again, yet look at what you’ve done.
“Are you okay?” Han Shengyu softened his tone again, holding her hand gently as he examined it. “Does it still hurt?”
“I’m fine, it doesn’t hurt anymore.” Ye Ranxi smiled, but she didn’t dare to look at Ling Xiaonai again.
“Let’s go,” Han Shengyu said, having noticed the disappointment in her eyes. He knew she didn’t want to stay here any longer and prepared to take her away, but then, they were interrupted by Ling Xiaonai’s furious shout from behind.
“Han Shengyu, what right do you have to take her away from me?”
Ye Ranxi turned back to glance at him. All she had seen of Ling Xiaonai was his affectionate side, but now, his eyes were red with anger-a side she had never witnessed before.
Han Shengyu gave a wry smile. Indeed, what right did he have? But he couldn’t stand to see Ye Ranxi looking unwilling. If she was unhappy, he would take her away to give her the freedom she desired.
“Then what right do you have to keep me by your side?” Ye Ranxi stepped forward and shot a sharp glare at Wen Nuan, who was snuggled up to Ling Xiaonai, looking as if Ye Ranxi were the one trying to ruin their happiness.
If he already had someone else, why was he still provoking her?
Ling Xiaonai felt a surge of anger rise within him, his eyes a mix of disappointment and rage, and he clenched his fist tightly.
Before Ye Ranxi could react, Ling Xiaonai’s fist flew straight at Han Shengyu’s face.
In front of so many people, Ling Xiaonai’s childish behavior immediately drew everyone’s attention.
Han Shengyu took the punch squarely, staggering back a few steps. If it weren’t for Ye Ranxi supporting him, he would probably have fallen to the ground by now.
Ling Xiaonai’s punch was fueled by a lot of strength, as if he wanted to vent all his anger onto Han Shengyu.
“You’ve lost your mind?” Ye Ranxi exclaimed as she rushed over to help Han Shengyu, who had a purplish bruise forming on his face. “How does it feel? Does it hurt?”
She had never seen Ye Ranxi so angry before, but this tenderness in her voice when she turned to check on Han Shengyu’s injury was something new to him as well.
These two extremes deeply unsettled Ling Xiaonai.
Han Shengyu shook his head, then stood up and swung a punch at Ling Xiaonai, one that was even harder than the one Ling Xiaonai had thrown earlier.
“This punch is for you,” Han Shengyu said, watching as Ling Xiaonai staggered back a few steps, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. He prepared to wrap his arms around Ye Ranxi and leave when he was met with another punch from Ling Xiaonai. The two began to tumble and grapple with each other.
How did things escalate to this point? Ye Ranxi watched the two of them exchange blows, feeling her mind swirl in confusion. All she could do was shout, “Stop fighting!” but she felt helpless to intervene.
What had started as a pleasant reception had turned into a brawl between the two, and everyone around seemed to only watch the spectacle unfold, not one person stepping in to break it up.
It was as if they hadn’t heard her pleas, their fighting only growing more intense.
“If you’re going to hit him, you have to go through me first,” Ye Ranxi said, surprising even herself with her courage as she stood protectively in front of Han Shengyu. If Ling Xiaonai hadn’t pulled back his fist just in time, it would have struck her squarely in the face.
“Xiaoxi, get out of the way,” Ling Xiaonai snapped, furious and unwilling to let Han Shengyu off so easily.
Both were skilled fighters, and they bore visible marks of their conflict on their faces. Yet Ye Ranxi seemed entirely oblivious to Ling Xiaonai’s injuries, simply turning to ask Han Shengyu, “Does it hurt?”
He shook his head. “Not really.”
“We should just go back. You have injuries on your face.” Ye Ranxi sighed and took Han Shengyu’s hand, preparing to leave, but Ling Xiaonai’s voice rang out behind them. “Xiaoxi, don’t go.”
Wen Nuan stepped forward at this moment. “Xiaonai-Ge, you’re hurt. Let me help you with your injury when we get back.”
Ling Xiaonai seemed not to hear her, violently shaking her off, causing Wen Nuan to stumble back several steps.
Did she really only see Han Shengyu’s injuries and forget about Ling Xiaonai?
“Don’t you have Wen Nuan to take care of you? What’s the point of me staying here?” Ye Ranxi retorted coldly. Indeed, she admitted she was disturbed by the fact that Ling Xiaonai had been involved with Wen Nuan.
No matter what, all she wanted was to leave this place quickly, to not think about anything, to just escape.
With that, Ye Ranxi pulled Han Shengyu along and left the reception without looking back.
Ling Family.
“You reckless boy!” Ling Jiang was furious after hearing about the fight between Ling Xiaonai and Han Shengyu at the reception. He picked up a flower pot nearby and hurled it at Ling Xiaonai, barely missing his face.
“What are you doing?” Zhang Huiwen exclaimed as she noticed the bruises blooming on Ling Xiaonai’s face. She was already worried sick, and now she had to deal with this old-fashioned man’s scolding. “Son, are you alright?”
But maybe it was for the best; their relationship had grown so strained that a reconciliation seemed unlikely now.
“What am I doing? You should see what your good son has been up to! The president of Ling Corporation, fighting like that in front of so many people-he’s completely embarrassed the Ling family!” Zhang Huiwen hadn’t seen Ling Jiang this angry in a long time, and she felt a little scared.
“From now on, you are not allowed to be with Ye Ranxi,” he continued firmly.
For the sake of the Ling family’s reputation, it would be best to stay away from that woman.
Wen Nuan, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but feel delighted by this statement. She stifled her inner joy and walked over to pat Ling Jiang on the back. “Uncle, don’t be so upset; it’s not good for your health.”
“Look at how thoughtful Wen Nuan is! You have such a wonderful woman right in front of you, yet you still insist on liking Ye Ranxi. I will not allow you to associate with her anymore,” Ling Jiang said sternly.
Ling Xiaonai furrowed his brow but didn’t say anything as he turned to leave.
“Xiaonai-Ge…” Wen Nuan stepped forward and grabbed his hand. “You still have injuries on your face; let me help you apply some medicine, okay?”
She understood that he was probably eager to find Ye Ranxi, but now that Ye Ranxi was with Han Shengyu, could he still not let her go?
Ling Xiaonai remained silent, his gaze fixed coldly on Wen Nuan, offering no warmth.
“Son, you should listen to Wen Nuan and take care of your injuries first,” Zhang Huiwen urged from the side.
“I will never give up on Xiaoxi,” Ling Xiaonai declared, turning away without looking back as he headed for the door.
Ling Jiang’s voice called out from behind him. “If you insist on being with Ye Ranxi, then don’t bother coming back to this house!”
Ling Xiaonai completely ignored Ling Jiang’s angry shout and strode out of the Ling family home.
Watching Ling Xiaonai walk away, Wen Nuan felt a deep ache in her heart. Why was it that no matter how Ye Ranxi treated him, he still refused to even glance her way?
Ling Xiaonai drove directly to Ye Ranxi’s home. After getting out of the car, he rang the doorbell, but there was no response from inside.
After quite a while, Qian Yexue finally approached the door and opened it. When she saw Ling Xiaonai, she asked in confusion, “Aren’t you at the reception? Where’s Xiaoxi?”
“She hasn’t returned?”
“No, isn’t she with you?” Qian Yexue found the situation increasingly strange. Had something happened between them again? Ling Xiaonai’s expression was clearly not good.
Ling Xiaonai pressed his lips together. “I was waiting for her outside.”
Han Family.
Ye Ranxi followed Han Shengyu back home. As soon as they closed the door, Ye Ranxi put down her bag and asked, “Where’s the first aid kit? I’m going to get it.”
“I’m fine…”
Seeing that Han Shengyu wasn’t going to elaborate, she walked over to the cabinet to look for it.
“It’s in the third compartment of the second cabinet.”
Sure enough, upon opening the compartment, Ye Ranxi found the first aid kit. She brought it over, walked to the sofa, and pushed Han Shengyu down onto it. “Sit still; I’m going to treat your injuries now.”
Having watched Pei Yuanyi tend to injuries before, Ye Ranxi had picked up some techniques. She took a cotton swab, dipped it in medication, and gently applied it to his wounds.
The cool sensation felt quite comfortable. Han Shengyu’s long eyelashes fluttered, his eyes never leaving her face.
“Don’t move,” she instructed, noticing half of his face was swollen with bruises and a small cut at the corner of his mouth. Despite his usual gentle demeanor, he could be ruthless when it came to fighting.
Thinking back to how fiercely the two had fought earlier, Ye Ranxi sighed. It seemed like all their problems arose because of her; to say she felt no guilt would be a lie.
“I’m fine, just a bit sore,” Han Shengyu smiled, trying to ease her worries.
“Why are you so foolish? You actually fought with Ling Xiaonai. We’re not kids anymore,” Ye Ranxi scolded gently, her voice filled with warmth. Her movements became more cautious, afraid of hurting his wounds.
As she treated his injuries, her entire body leaned closer to him, her warm breath brushing against his face. Her small, warm hands occasionally brushed against his cheek, and he could smell her faint, natural fragrance. With the person he admired right in front of him, he couldn’t help but wrap his arm around her slender waist, pulling her in tightly. Ye Ranxi was caught off guard, and the red medication she was holding slipped from her hand and spilled onto the floor.
“What are you doing?” she exclaimed.
“Don’t move; let me just hold you for a moment,” Han Shengyu whispered gently, stroking her hair in a way that felt like comforting a child.
This was the embrace he had longed for in his dreams countless times. Now, here she was in his arms, yet it still felt somewhat hazy and unreal.
