The Arrogant President's Cute Assistant - Chapter 155 - The Secret in the USB Drive
After dinner, Qian Yexue originally wanted to watch TV with Ye Ranxi, but instead, Ye Ranxi grabbed a USB drive and headed to the computer.
“Xiaoxi, what are you doing? Didn’t you say all your work was done?” Qian Yexue noticed how diligent she was even after coming home and thought she was busy with work.
Ye Ranxi pointed at the USB drive. “Ling Xiaonai’s sister said the USB drive was broken and asked me to help her fix it. I couldn’t refuse, so I took it back to give it a try.”
“Isn’t that the sister who dropped it in the water and tried to pin the blame on you?” As soon as she mentioned Wen Nuan, Qian Yexue felt sorry for Ye Ranxi. “What if she’s trying to trap you again? Xiaoxi, you need to be careful.”
“Come on, it’s not that serious. It’s just a USB drive. I’ll be fine!”
When Ye Ranxi plugged the USB drive into the computer, she saw that it had been formatted. She had made similar silly mistakes before, resulting in losing all the design files stored on it. Later, she learned how to recover files, so now even without a technician, she could manage it on her own.
Half an hour later, she finally managed to restore the USB drive completely.
“Done!” Ye Ranxi sighed in relief when she saw all the files were back. But how strange, there was only one file, and it was related to Ling Corporation.
What connection could Zhang Huiwen have with Ling Corporation? Ye Ranxi couldn’t figure it out. She had always thought of Zhang Huiwen as just a wealthy lady uninterested in common matters; could she actually have shares in Ling Corporation?
If that’s the case, maybe she could take action against her. If she managed to seize Zhang Huiwen’s shares, her revenge plan could advance further.
Although Ye Ranxi knew that prying into someone else’s files was unethical, her curiosity got the better of her, and she opened the file. After about half an hour of reading, she was still a bit confused.
The data on the file suggested that Zhang Huiwen had moved funds from Ling Corporation. However, there were no details indicating where this money had gone.
What could this mean? Ye Ranxi wasn’t completely sure of her judgment yet, as her knowledge of business operations was still superficial. There were many things she couldn’t truly understand, and perhaps she was misinterpreting it.
Zhang Huiwen should have significant liquid assets and real estate; how could she possibly need to move funds from Ling Corporation?
With doubts lingering in her mind, Ye Ranxi decided to copy the file.
The next day, after finishing her work, Ye Ranxi called Han Shengyu and learned he was busy. Instead, she decided to head over to Han Corporation.
Top Floor of the Company.
“Ms. Ye, hello. The President is currently in a meeting. He asked you to wait in the office for a bit,” Han Shengyu’s secretary said with a smile as she led Ye Ranxi into the office and brought her a cup of coffee.
“Thank you,” Ye Ranxi smiled and nodded before sitting down on the nearby sofa.
Han Shengyu’s office appeared quite simple, much like an ordinary office. It reflected his understated personality; he tended to be low-key in his approach to everything.
After sitting there feeling bored and overwhelmed with work, Ye Ranxi leaned against the sofa and dozed off.
When Han Shengyu returned to his office, he saw Ye Ranxi resting against the sofa, her lips slightly parted and her eyes tightly closed, clearly having fallen asleep from exhaustion. He chuckled softly, took off his suit jacket, and draped it over her before heading to his desk to get back to work.
About two hours later, Ye Ranxi finally woke up. Originally, she had come to seek advice from Han Shengyu, but she hadn’t expected to fall asleep in his office. A glance at her watch revealed it was already past seven.
“Awake?” Han Shengyu asked when he noticed her stirring. He poured her a glass of milk and handed it to her, “Drink some milk. You’ve been looking quite tired lately.”
“Yes,” Ye Ranxi stretched and then returned his suit jacket to him. “I slacked off a bit recently, and now the work is piled up like a small mountain. I’ve been signing so many things that my hands feel like they’re about to break.”
“Is it really that exaggerated? Just have a glass of milk to refresh yourself,” Han Shengyu replied, taking back the jacket. After watching her drink the milk, he smiled and asked, “So, what’s the important matter? Why are you waiting for me here so late?”
In fact, Han Shengyu hoped she would have something to discuss with him; it would give him more chances to see her.
“I actually feel bad for making you wait here for two hours,” Ye Ranxi admitted, patting her face to wake herself up a bit more. “By the way, I came here today to ask you about something.”
“What’s the question?”
Han Shengyu, who managed a corporation and had a master’s degree in foreign financial management, was certainly much more knowledgeable than a newcomer like her.
“Take a look at this,” Ye Ranxi said as she handed him the document. “Does this indicate that the company’s liquid funds have been misappropriated?”
Han Shengyu took the document and glanced over it briefly. “Yes, that’s correct. Your judgment is spot on.”
The important data had already been altered by Ye Ranxi, so he definitely couldn’t tell that it was Ling Corporation’s financial report.
Even though she had received a clear answer, Ye Ranxi still found it hard to believe. Why would Zhang Huiwen do something like this? Did the shareholders of Ling Corporation know about it? If they did, misappropriating company funds would be illegal.
Not knowing about this matter was one thing, but now that she did, her feelings had become complicated. If she could grasp this leverage, it would certainly be a huge advantage for her revenge plan.
“Xiaoxi, where did you get this data?” Han Shengyu, while unaware that it was Ling Corporation’s financial report, was aware that the source of this data was undoubtedly significant. Moreover, given that Ye Ranxi had been acting mysteriously lately, he truly worried that she might be getting herself into trouble.
Ye Ranxi wouldn’t easily disclose everything to him, so she casually brushed over it. “I have been reading some books on business operations and came across some numbers I didn’t quite understand, so I thought I’d ask you about it.”
“Alright then,” Han Shengyu nodded. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll drive you home. It’s getting late, and it’s not safe for you to be out alone.”
“Sounds good.” Ye Ranxi packed away the document, and Han Shengyu just happened to notice the diamond ring on her finger.
“The Heart of the Ocean? Did Ling Xiaonai give this to you?” Han Shengyu said, staring at her blue diamond ring.
Previously, Han Shengyu had wanted to get the Heart of the Ocean to give to Ye Ranxi, but it turned out that Ling Xiaonai had bought it. Now, it was in Ye Ranxi’s possession.
Han Shengyu didn’t know how much effort he had invested to obtain the Heart of the Ocean, only to find that he still couldn’t get it in the end. It was evident that Ling Xiaonai truly cared for Ye Ranxi; otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone through so much trouble to present her with this ring.
Ye Ranxi nodded, “Yes, I’ve already accepted his proposal.”
A hint of gloom flashed in Han Shengyu’s eyes, but it quickly faded. “Congratulations, Xiaoxi. It’s clear that Ling Xiaonai treats you very well.”
“Hmm, maybe. Aren’t you going to take me home? Let’s go, or the whole building will be locked up,” Ye Ranxi said with a smile, deftly changing the subject. The awkwardness on Han Shengyu’s face flickered away as he drove her to the parking lot and then home.
After taking a shower and lying in bed, Ye Ranxi still couldn’t make sense of why Zhang Huiwen would act this way.
Other than Han Shengyu, there weren’t many people she could trust. If she told Zhao Zhihui, he might hold this matter against Zhang Huiwen, and things could spiral out of control, creating trouble for her.
Lost in thought, Ye Ranxi eventually fell asleep.
However, by the next morning, she had figured things out. Currently, Zhang Huiwen didn’t pose a real threat to her, and there was no need to use the leverage she had. But what about Wen Nuan? Did she deliberately give her that USB drive and let her see the file on it?
Regardless of how things had unfolded, all she needed to do now was return the USB drive to Wen Nuan. She couldn’t predict how the situation would develop, so she would just deal with whatever came her way.
When Wen Nuan received Ye Ranxi’s call, she excitedly hurried to her office. Seeing Ye Ranxi busy with work, she politely knocked on the door. “Xiaoxi-Jie, are you in there?”
“Come in.”
Wen Nuan bounced in and happily asked, “Xiaoxi-Jie, is the USB drive fixed?”
“Yep, here you go.” Ye Ranxi opened her drawer and handed her the silver USB drive.
“Thank you, Xiaoxi-Jie! I knew you would be the best,” Wen Nuan beamed as she took the USB drive, showing no signs of any unusual behavior. Ye Ranxi began to think that perhaps she was overthinking the situation.
“Alright, you should hurry back with the USB drive. I’m sure your mom will be very happy to see it,” Ye Ranxi smiled. “I have a lot of work to catch up on here.”
Wen Nuan nodded. “Xiaoxi-Jie, I won’t disturb your work any longer. I’ll head back now.” With that, she left, clutching the USB drive.
Wen Nuan was uncertain whether Ye Ranxi had seen the contents of the USB drive. Her thoughts were racing. Li Xiaoai had taken a lot of effort to teach her this method, and what if Ye Ranxi hadn’t seen anything?
The conversation with Ye Ranxi had been vague, and she had been dismissed after only a few words. What if Ye Ranxi already knew her intentions?
It didn’t matter; even if she hadn’t seen anything, there would be other opportunities to deal with her.
Back at the Ling Family home, Wen Nuan was deep in thought while holding the USB drive until finally, she came up with a great idea.
Zhang Huiwen was in the garden watering flowers. Wen Nuan rushed to the garden with the USB drive, pretending to accidentally drop it and intending to pick it up and leave.
It seemed that Zhang Huiwen noticed her sneaky behavior and called out to her, “Wen Nuan, why are you running so fast?”
“I… it’s nothing!” Wen Nuan hurriedly hid what she was holding behind her back, her face revealing a look of worry.
Seeing her like this, Zhang Huiwen was even more certain that Wen Nuan was hiding something from her.
