The Arrogant President's Cute Assistant - Chapter 147 - Pregnant?
Wen Nuan smiled sweetly at Ye Ranxi, “Xiaoxi-Jie, you should drink more milk, it’s really helpful for your recovery.”
“Thank you.” Seeing Wen Nuan’s cheerful smile, Ye Ranxi smiled sweetly in return.
Suddenly, she felt a wave of discomfort in her stomach and covered her mouth, almost about to throw up.
“What’s wrong?” Ling Xiaonai patted her back, thinking she might have choked on something.
Ye Ranxi looked a bit pale. She shook her head and forced a smile, “I’m fine, I might just have a bit of an upset stomach lately. It’s nothing serious.”
“If it’s an upset stomach, you should get it checked. Otherwise, if it turns into gastroenteritis, that wouldn’t be good.” Zhang Huiwen finally spoke up.
Although her words sounded a bit stiff, Ye Ranxi could sense the concern behind them, and she nodded vigorously, “Thank you, Auntie.”
“Xiaoxi, have you been feeling nauseous lately? And do you find yourself wanting to sleep all the time, really craving sour foods?” Aunt Lan asked curiously from the side.
Ye Ranxi thought about it seriously, and it did seem that way…
“Could it be that I’m coming down with some strange illness?” Ye Ranxi was quite worried. Initially, she hadn’t thought much about it, but Aunt Lan’s words made her feel a tightness in her chest, unsure of how uncomfortable it really was.
“Of course not,” Aunt Lan smiled as she walked over. “Perhaps you might be pregnant.”
Pregnant? Ye Ranxi looked surprised, but mostly scared… She couldn’t possibly be pregnant, could she?
“Xiaoxi, are you pregnant?” Ling Xiaonai’s voice trembled a bit. Ye Ranxi had never heard him so excited before.
How could that be? Back in America, due to her physical condition, the doctor had told her that her chances of getting pregnant in the future were already very low. All of this was thanks to Ling Xiaonai.
Ling Jiang and Zhang Huiwen also had smiles on their faces, especially Zhang Huiwen, who had always hoped Ling Xiaonai would have a child soon so she could hold a grandchild.
“No, no, I… my period just came a while ago, so it shouldn’t be pregnancy,” Ye Ranxi explained, and everyone’s hopes were dashed. Only Wen Nuan flashed a hint of a smile in her eyes.
Aunt Lan felt a bit awkward and patted Ye Ranxi’s shoulder, “It’s okay, Xiaoxi. You’re still so young, you’ll have the chance in the future.”
Ling Xiaonai didn’t say anything. He walked up to her and directly picked her up, “Xiaoxi isn’t feeling well, so I’ll take her back to the room to rest.”
Under the puzzled gazes of the Ling family, Ye Ranxi was already being led back to the room by Ling Xiaonai.
As soon as the door closed, Ling Xiaonai carried her over to the sofa and sat her on his lap, her head resting against his chest. His gentle voice reached her ears, softly soothing her, “Xiaoxi, if you’re sad, just cry it out.”
He knew that the topic of children would always be a huge wound in her heart, one that his tenderness couldn’t heal.
So he knew… Tears that Ye Ranxi had struggled to hold back began to flow. Many times, she had dreamt of the doctor’s words-“You might never have children again.”
There was certainly a sense of gratitude; at least Ling Xiaonai didn’t let her cry in front of so many people. But whenever she thought about what he had done to her back then, the anger in her heart deepened.
Why did he have to? If he really cared for her so much, he wouldn’t have hurt her so deeply in the first place.
“I’m not sad; it’s all in the past,” Ye Ranxi said, habitually wiping her tears on his shirt.
Although she said that, how could Ling Xiaonai not see the sorrow in her eyes? Losing that child must have dealt a heavy blow to her. He had suffered too, but back then, she hated him so much that he didn’t dare approach her, fearing it would make her feel worse.
“It’s okay, we’ll have children in the future. When the time comes, we must have a girl who looks just like you,” Ling Xiaonai said as he wiped away her tears and held her close again, sharing his dreams of what their child would be like.
This was the first time Ling Xiaonai had spoken to her like this. While he had always indulged her, Ye Ranxi felt like she had never truly understood him, not even now.
As she listened to Ling Xiaonai describe his imagined future, it felt almost like a dream.
Had he really thought about their future together? After everything that had happened, Ye Ranxi’s heart was already scarred from the pain he had caused; how could she still have the strength to believe in him?
Ye Ranxi chuckled a bit; to Ling Xiaonai, she seemed like she was already convinced of her own words.
“How do you know we’ll definitely have a girl?” she pouted, teasing him as if mocking his ability to foresee the future.
Ling Xiaonai held her close and explained, “Because I like girls, and it would be best if she looked like you.”
If it was a girl just like her, she would probably be innocent and adorable.
“We’re not even married yet, and you’re already thinking about kids? What if I ended up pregnant before we tie the knot? I’d be the laughingstock!” Ye Ranxi quickly shifted the topic to something else. The more she talked about children, the more uncomfortable she felt.
Moreover, she was just planning to marry Ling Xiaonai; she had no thoughts about having children. There was no way she would let her child inherit the blood of an enemy.
“What? Are you that eager to marry me?” Ling Xiaonai raised an eyebrow and smiled, seemingly quite interested in what she said.
Ye Ranxi felt a blush creep to her cheeks. Wasn’t that implying that she loved him so much she was desperate to marry him?
“How vain!” She playfully tapped his chest with her small hand. “Who said anything about marrying you? You haven’t even proposed yet.”
Ling Xiaonai seemed to be lost in thought, contemplating something.
“Where are we going?” Before Ye Ranxi could gather her thoughts, he tugged her toward the door and ran outside. This man was so impulsive; he dragged her along wherever he fancied, and she felt like a silly girl following him blindly.
Ling Xiaonai didn’t answer her and simply took her out of the villa.
Once they got in the car, Ye Ranxi barely had time to react before the car drove off.
This time, Ling Xiaonai took her directly to the seaside house they had visited last summer. Now, it was winter.
“What did you bring me here for?” Although she was happy to see the ocean, Ye Ranxi was a bit puzzled. After getting out of the car and stepping onto the soft sand, she twirled around like a silly girl, a big smile on her face.
Now, Ye Ranxi was different from before. In the past, she would always show him her saddest side. But now, she had grown accustomed to hiding her pain from him, not allowing him to see or touch it.
If that was the case, he would need to give her more happiness to help her become the joyful and innocent Ye Ranxi she once was.
“I won’t tell you,” Ling Xiaonai replied, simply letting her run around happily on the beach.
It was only in front of the ocean that she could be this joyful. Seeing her long-lost smile lifted Ling Xiaonai’s spirits as well.
After playing by the sea until she was tired and covered in mud, looking quite dirty, Ye Ranxi clung to him, wanting to return to the villa to take a shower.
They walked back in a hurry, without bringing anything with them-not even luggage. Thankfully, there were always lots of new fashion pieces prepared in the closet. However, when she went to the closet and opened it, she was shocked to see that all the dresses were missing.
“How could this happen?” Ye Ranxi exclaimed as she saw the empty closet. She walked over to another nearby cabinet and opened it, only to find it filled with Ling Xiaonai’s suits and shirts.
Ling Xiaonai replied, “The servants probably took the clothes to the dry cleaners a couple of days ago.”
Most villas didn’t usually have servants present all the time; they would come once a month to clean and take the clothes for laundry.
Ye Ranxi looked distressed. She was dirty all over and it was winter, so she couldn’t just step out in a bathrobe after taking a shower.
“What am I supposed to do?” She complained, sitting down at the edge of the bed and looking at her messy state.
Ling Xiaonai handed her a long shirt. “Why don’t you just wear one of my shirts for now?”
The shirt in his hand was quite large and long; it should at least cover her lower half somewhat. Not wanting to think too much about it in her discomfort, Ye Ranxi took the shirt and headed into the bathroom.
When she finished her shower and emerged wearing the shirt, she quickly realized just how short it was. It barely covered her hips, making it almost like she wasn’t wearing anything at all.
Moreover, there were no spare underwear here; she was completely bare underneath. This meant that Ling Xiaonai might just take advantage of her situation…
When Ye Ranxi stepped out of the bathroom, Ling Xiaonai couldn’t contain his laughter upon seeing her. This silly girl was wearing a shirt but had wrapped herself in a thick bath towel.
The towel barely reached her knees, revealing her fair thighs as she moved about, which made Ling Xiaonai feel his throat tighten as he almost lost control, wanting to pull that towel away.
“Just to be clear, you’re not allowed to touch me today,” Ye Ranxi declared as she climbed under the covers, clutching the towel tightly as if protecting herself from his advances.
He had indeed pressed her too often lately, and there were still faint reddish-purple marks on her skin. Ling Xiaonai didn’t want to push her further; instead, he gently wrapped his arms around her and fell asleep.
Ye Ranxi allowed him to hold her, burying her small head against his chest. “By the way, there’s something I want to discuss with you.”
“Go ahead,” Ling Xiaonai said softly, his warm voice blending with the sound of waves crashing against the rocks outside, giving her a comforting sense of security.
“If I end up staying with you, I definitely won’t be going back to America. What will happen to my job here?” Ye Ranxi began to vent her frustration at Ling Xiaonai. “This is all your fault! Now I have no job!”
“Is that so…? Didn’t your studio relocate back here?” Ling Xiaonai asked, intrigued.
Ye Ranxi nodded. “Yes, but I used to work with them. Now, I just run around with you all day, and the studio hasn’t taken on any projects for ages. When there’s no salary for them, they’ll probably hate me.”
