Teasing the Icy President - Chapter 25 - Ye Ziqian Arrives
The man paused for a moment, nodding slightly. Mu Qingtian felt utterly dejected, her head hung low as she thought about the recent events. She was about to lead the man up the stairs when Nie Shuangshuang arrived, witnessing the scene and shouting, “Qingtian!”
Mu Qingtian turned around, surprised and delighted to see Nie Shuangshuang. “Shuangshuang, you’re here!”
But Nie Shuangshuang’s gaze was fixed on the man behind her, signaling danger. Mu Qingtian knew the situation was serious and quickly said, “I have some things to take care of, need to attend to my parents. You two chat, take your time.”
Without waiting for a reply, she dashed upstairs, and as she reached the top, she cheekily turned back and said, “Hey, are you really going to just talk?” Sticking out her tongue, she hurried up the stairs.
The man watched Nie Shuangshuang, and she stared back at him. Neither spoke. Nie Shuangshuang widened her eyes, marched up to him, snatched her wallet from his hand, glared at him, and grabbed the fruit basket, declaring, “These are mine, don’t think you can take advantage of me!”
The man, intrigued by her defiance, said, “I could make you mine, you know.”
Nie Shuangshuang paused, hearing this, then turned around with a playful smile, and wiped the smile off her face, “Yeah, right, you pighead, get lost!”
She clicked her high heels and went upstairs, leaving the man standing there, staring at the staircase in bewilderment. A few seconds later, a mischievous smile spread across his face, “How do you know you’re not my type? I’m definitely going to win you over.”
The man chuckled, his smile full of mystery.
He followed her upstairs, knowing he had other matters to attend to, ones that were likely causing him a headache.
Ye Ziqian sat in the car, pressing a bag of ice against his face, grimacing. Lu Zizhong watched, feeling sorry for his young master. Poor kid, how did he end up so unlucky? He went to check on the little girl’s father and ended up getting punched. But seeing his adorable panda eyes, Lu Zizhong almost couldn’t help but laugh, barely holding it in.
“Is it that funny, Uncle Zhong?” Ye Ziqian asked.
“Well, a little,” Lu Zizhong replied honestly, which only made Ye Ziqian more frustrated. If it were compliments, he wouldn’t mind the honesty, as he was quite proud of himself. But among strangers and subordinates, he had lost face, and the more he thought about it, the angrier he became. That fat woman had no right to hit him!
Ye Ziqian simmered with unspoken anger, telling Lu Zizhong, “Go back and throw that woman’s stuff out. No, not woman, that annoying pig.”
“Uh, are you sure about that, young master? It doesn’t seem right,” Lu Zizhong replied truthfully, “Do you want to resign?”
Ye Ziqian suppressed his anger, feeling like a raging lion, though now he was a free lion. He rubbed his temples, thinking that throwing her out was too easy. No, it was too easy; he needed to torment her to satisfy his anger.
Ye Ziqian clenched his fists, furious that she dared to provoke him. He tossed the ice pack aside, his anger growing, and leaned back in his seat, lost in thought.
“Uncle, I’m sorry, it was a misunderstanding, please don’t be mad, let me explain.” A frantic text popped up, and Ye Ziqian tossed his phone aside, not wanting to hear explanations. He was stubborn like that. Lu Zizhong sighed, feeling that no one could control his bossy temper anymore. He saw it but was powerless.
Mu Qingtian felt helpless, clutching her phone against the cold wall. She frowned, staring at the glowing screen, but there was no response. She was embarrassed to call, but now she was panicking and couldn’t care less. She dialed his number, waiting for him to pick up.
Meanwhile, Ye Ziqian listened to the phone vibrating, showing no reaction. “Uncle Zhong, turn off the phone, it’s annoying.”
He grimaced, pressing the ice pack against his face, wondering when he had ever been so humiliated. That pig was too much; he got hit for being kind. The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. Uncle Zhong was about to turn off the phone when Ye Ziqian snatched it, pressing a button, and heard Mu Qingtian’s anxious voice, “Uncle… Uncle, don’t be mad, it’s not what you think.”
Ye Ziqian remained silent, the atmosphere tense. Mu Qingtian heard no response and thought he wasn’t listening, so she said, “Uncle, are you listening? Are you listening?”
Ye Ziqian finally spoke, but his words were terrifying, “Get back here right now!” With that, he angrily hung up the phone.
Mu Qingtian heard a loud “bang” followed by the dial tone, her hair practically standing on end.
“It’s over, I’m done for, I’ve caused a huge mess…” She thought, wondering if not returning meant she’d be kicked out. If she returned, would her job be secure? The little person inside her was struggling, but ultimately, she gave in to Ye Ziqian.
Alright, alright, I better get back quickly. Dad is out of danger now, and I need to go back for a job-saving battle. Sigh, maintaining a livelihood is important, can’t be careless, or where would I find such a good job? She scratched her head, shouting, “Ah, it’s so annoying!”
Slowly returning to the fourth floor, feeling drained, Mu Qingtian walked to the door, seeing Nie Shuangshuang with a man, seemingly talking. She glanced from afar, wanting to call Nie Shuangshuang but held back. She looked at the man, indeed handsome, not inferior to Uncle at all.
When did Nie Shuangshuang have such a good encounter? Mu Qingtian wondered, suddenly remembering that the man she was supposed to hit was this man! The one who stole Nie Shuangshuang’s wallet!
Hmph, any goodwill vanished instantly. Now seeing them whispering from a distance, she felt annoyed. Shuangshuang, for you, I got myself into trouble. Boohoo, why am I so unlucky? She thought, seeing Nie Shuangshuang chatting with the thief while she was about to be punished.
Mu Qingtian wanted to throw a brick at the scoundrel, it’s all your fault! She made a gesture of hitting him behind their backs, then reluctantly lowered her hand. No matter what, it was better to avoid more trouble, especially with a little kid and losing a job to support the family…
No, now she needed to take the little kid to save her job. The decision made, Mu Qingtian felt slightly relieved and pushed the door open. Her father was still asleep, her mother holding his hand. Seeing her enter, her mother was about to speak, but Mu Qingtian quickly said, “Mom, I have an urgent work matter, need to leave immediately.”
“So soon? Qingtian, your father hasn’t seen you yet!” Mu Qingtian’s mother stood up, looking at her daughter with eyes full of reluctance. Mu Qingtian felt torn but gritted her teeth, “There’s a problem at work, the boss wants me to redo it. If I don’t go, I’ll lose my job… So, Mom, I…”
Mu Qingtian felt embarrassed, not wanting to tell her mother, fearing she’d worry. But if she didn’t say, her sensitive mother might be hurt. Choosing between worry and hurt was tough.
Mu Qingtian’s mother, Zhong Qiuyan, frowned, hearing her daughter’s job was at risk, a bit frightened, quickly urging her, “Then don’t hesitate, go quickly. I’ll take care of your father, you go with peace of mind.”
Though reluctant, part of their family’s livelihood depended on Mu Qingtian, losing her job would be serious.
Mu Qingtian nodded, glanced at little Junze playing alone, and said to her mother, “I’ll take him back, he got on at the station there, maybe his home is there too.”
“Yes, if you can find it, find it. Maybe little Junze ran away, his family must be worried sick.” Her mother nodded in agreement. Mu Qingtian nodded vigorously, saying, “Shuangshuang is busy, let her stay here.”
Zhong Qiuyan said, “Alright, make sure to call me when you get back, or I’ll worry.” “Okay, Mom, I will.” Mu Qingtian pulled little Junze along and quietly left.
Nie Shuangshuang and the man were gone. Mu Qingtian scratched her head, “Did I imagine it?”
She called Nie Shuangshuang, “Shuangshuang, where are you? I have urgent work, need to go back, what about you?”
Nie Shuangshuang sounded tired, “You go ahead, I’ll contact you when I get back.” Then she hung up.
“Hey, hey, hey…” Mu Qingtian held the phone, unsure what to say, surprised at how quickly her call was ended. She looked at little Junze, who shrugged innocently, and patted his shoulder, “Alright, it’s just us, why are you pretending? Let’s go, we need to get back.”
Little Junze walked beside her, asking, “Where to?”
“Back to where we came from, of course!” Mu Qingtian replied helplessly, feeling anxious inside, wondering if she’d be struck by lightning upon returning. Her little heart couldn’t take it.
Nie Shuangshuang, who knows what she’s up to, sees a man and disappears. I mean, what kind of good sister is she? Did she come here just to flirt with Uncle? She shook her head, thinking about how Nie Shuangshuang always talked about men, this time, she was caught! She tutted inwardly, unsure how to get through this long night.
Does she have a boyfriend now? I’m still single, boohoo, why? Why is God so unfair? She rubbed her eyes, feeling sorry for herself.
I’ll stay single, I’m not afraid. Hmph. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel, I’ll wait for my spring, hopefully not when I’m eighty!
