Teasing the Icy President - Chapter 17 - Saved Him Again
Ye Ziqian gazed at Mu Qingtian lying on the hospital bed, slightly dazed.
Not long ago, the doctor had told him, “The patient has a fractured right arm. The weight of the flowerpot and the speed at which it fell freely to the ground would generate a tremendous force, enough to crack a human skull, let alone an already fragile arm.”
How could she have such courage to push him to the ground without hesitation in such a short time! Ye Ziqian stared at Mu Qingtian lying on the bed. Her face was still pale, with fine beads of sweat on her forehead. Ye Ziqian picked up a towel, wanting to wipe the sweat away. He was grateful to this little girl-she had saved him for the second time.
Lu Zizhong hurriedly pushed the door open and rushed in: “President Ye, we’ve found the person who threw the flowerpot from upstairs. He actually took poison on the spot and died without revealing anything. We searched all his belongings but found nothing that could identify him. How’s the little girl? It was so terrifying at the time; I didn’t even have time to react. Nan Yan and Qing Shan are still missing. We don’t know what their motive was for attacking the president last time. The president has always treated them well-”
“Enough, stop talking. Go and get the best orthopedic surgeon in the country to take care of Mu Qingtian. Don’t worry about the cost,” Ye Ziqian instructed.
“Is the little girl’s injury serious?” Lu Zizhong asked, slightly surprised.
“Not serious, but I want her to recover well. Just do as I say. Why are you asking so many questions now? This isn’t like your usual style,” Ye Ziqian said thoughtfully.
“The little girl has a kind heart, unlike anyone else. Although we haven’t known each other for long, I really like her,” Lu Zizhong said honestly. “If it weren’t for her quick reaction this time-”
Ye Ziqian glanced at Lu Zizhong: “What are you trying to say? That my head would have been smashed? The timing was so precise when leaving the shopping mall; it must have been someone who knows my movements very well. I suspect this incident was also orchestrated by Nan Yan and Qing Shan. Uncle Zhong, go to the shopping mall immediately and gather the surveillance footage. See if Nan Yan and Qing Shan appeared there. Also, handle this matter yourself. Tell the Flame Gang to be prepared.”
“Yes, understood. Don’t worry, President,” Lu Zizhong said solemnly.
The surveillance footage from the shopping mall was all gathered by Lu Zizhong, covering everything from the entrance to every floor. Shortly after the president entered the shopping mall, Mu Qingtian and Nie Shuangshuang also arrived. Mu Qingtian was already carrying quite a few items in her hands, and it seemed a bit strenuous for her to walk. After about an hour, she was holding even more things. Lu Zizhong noticed that Mu Qingtian always insisted on carrying the items whenever Nie Shuangshuang or he bought something, which made him chuckle.
At the entrance of the shopping mall, a suspicious figure appeared. The man was tall, wearing a black trench coat with a high collar and sunglasses, completely concealing his face. He hurriedly entered the building. Lu Zizhong quickly pulled up this segment of the footage and rewatched it. He soon realized who the person was-it was none other than Nan Yan. When he appeared, he was holding the very flowerpot that had nearly fallen on Ye Ziqian’s head.
Lu Zizhong suddenly understood. Both this incident and the previous car explosion were orchestrated by Nan Yan. But why would he do such a thing? Lu Zizhong couldn’t wrap his head around it. Ye Ziqian had always treated Nan Yan and Qing Shan well. Although the two appeared cold and stern, they had been loyal to the president for decades. Why would they repeatedly attempt to harm him?
Shortly after Nan Yan disappeared from the footage, he reappeared on the rooftop of the shopping mall. Qing Shan, despite being in disguise, was instantly recognized by Lu Zizhong. She didn’t go upstairs but instead lingered on the first floor, pretending to browse while occasionally glancing at the exit where Ye Ziqian would emerge. When President Ye appeared at the exit, she quickly left, walking out of the shopping mall’s entrance.
The timing of the flowerpot’s fall was precise. If it hadn’t been for Mu Qingtian, who happened to be looking up at the sky at that moment, the flowerpot would have undoubtedly collided with Ye Ziqian’s head to see which was harder. The scene of Mu Qingtian saving Ye Ziqian was also captured in the footage. At that moment, the most convenient person to save Ye Ziqian wasn’t Mu Qingtian-Nie Shuangshuang was standing closest to him, and behind Ye Ziqian were Lu Zizhong and several bodyguards. None of them reacted in time. Only Mu Qingtian, without a second thought, lunged forward and pushed him to the ground, while the flowerpot struck her arm instead.
Mu Qingtian woke up. “Ow-ow-my arm hurts so much! Ow-ow-my arm’s broken! I’m crippled! My arm hurts, it hurts! Waaah-” She burst into tears as soon as she woke up.
Ye Ziqian looked at her and shouted dismissively, “Stop crying!”
Mu Qingtian was startled. She froze for a moment, then continued, “Ow-ow-my arm hurts so much! My arm’s broken! Waaah-”
Nie Shuangshuang pushed the door open and walked in, her face glistening with sweat. As soon as she entered, she called out to Mu Qingtian, “It’s all taken care of, everything’s settled. It cost over 4,000 yuan, though-you’ll have to pay me back!”
“Waaah-” Mu Qingtian burst into tears immediately. “No one cares about me, no one loves me! I saved someone’s life, and now my arm is broken. I have to pay for my own hospital stay, and even my best friend doesn’t care about me! Waaah-waaah-”
Nie Shuangshuang’s laughter faded as she realized Mu Qingtian wasn’t joking. Her tears were genuine, streaming down her face in torrents.
“I was just kidding, I swear! I didn’t mean it-I wasn’t serious about you paying me back. I was just trying to lighten the mood, to distract you. I know your arm is broken, and I wanted to cheer you up. I was wrong to say that, and I’ll never do it again. Mu Qingtian, don’t be sad. I shouldn’t have joked around when your arm is like this. It’s my fault. When you’re out of the hospital-whether your arm is healed or not-I’ll take you out to eat whatever you want. If you can’t eat because of your arm, I’ll feed you myself…”
They say one woman talking nonstop is as noisy as five hundred ducks. Now, with Mu Qingtian wailing and Nie Shuangshuang babbling like a machine gun, Ye Ziqian couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about. Why were they crying? Why were they explaining so much?
“Both of you, quiet!” Ye Ziqian roared again.
The two girls were instantly silenced by his outburst. Mu Qingtian sniffled softly, her chubby cheeks now flushed red from crying. At least she looked better than before, when her face had been pale and lifeless.
“Don’t worry about the medical bills. I’ll take care of it,” Ye Ziqian said.
“But you’re not the God of Wealth!” Mu Qingtian protested, her voice still thick with tears.
Ye Ziqian frowned at her. “What does the God of Wealth have to do with this?”
Mu Qingtian sobbed, “My arm is broken. I can’t work, I can’t do my job, I’m unemployed, I can’t earn money, I can’t-”
“Stop! You’ll get your full salary, plus a 1,000-yuan bonus every month. Your full salary of 30,000 yuan is guaranteed. You’ll move into the Ye Mansion, and I’ll hire someone to take care of you. That 1,000-yuan bonus? It’s to buy your silence-less talking, less crying, less noise!” Ye Ziqian’s eardrums couldn’t take the strain of her crying any longer.
The tactic worked like a charm. Mu Qingtian stopped crying immediately, while Nie Shuangshuang stood there, utterly dumbfounded by what she’d just heard.
“Wow, Mu Qingtian, you’ve actually turned misfortune into fortune! A full-time salary of 30,000 a month, and you get to rest and recuperate at the Ye Mansion for a hundred days-‘a broken bone takes a hundred days to heal,’ as they say!” Nie Shuangshuang exclaimed with admiration.
“What’s so great about it? I hate lying around and gaining idle weight. I like working-” Mu Qingtian replied.
“You can work. Your left hand isn’t broken!” Ye Ziqian snapped harshly.
Good heavens! Does this man have no heart? I ended up like this because I saved his life, and he dares to say that to me? Does he want the flowerpot to smash both my hands and leave me completely disabled before he’s satisfied? And last time, when I had just started working as a housekeeper at the Ye Mansion and didn’t know any better, I had all the cars sent to the repair shop for cleaning. Then the Ferrari he often drives exploded, and I saved his life again. How can he be so heartless?
“I saved your life-twice now. You owe me two lives! Got it?” Mu Qingtian said with utmost seriousness.
Ye Ziqian was starting to feel dizzy from dealing with this woman. Being around someone like her completely killed his appetite. Mu Qingtian was truly troublesome-she could cry and wail like a baby, completely unreasonable. Ye Ziqian couldn’t stand staying in the hospital any longer.
“Nie Shuangshuang, could you take care of Mu Qingtian? I have some business to attend to, so I’ll head back to the company now. Here’s my number-call me if anything comes up,” Ye Ziqian said politely to Nie Shuangshuang, handing her his business card.
Nie Shuangshuang’s face lit up like a blooming flower. She loved men, especially handsome ones, and someone like Ye Ziqian-handsome, cool, famous, and wealthy-was particularly eye-catching.
“Of course, Mr. Ye, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Mu Qingtian,” Nie Shuangshuang said, feeling as though she had grown closer to Ye Ziqian now that he had entrusted her with Mu Qingtian’s care.
She glanced at Mu Qingtian lying in the hospital bed. She was a bit of a chubby figure, a soft, round bundle of flesh. Nie Shuangshuang wasn’t exactly a beauty herself, but standing next to Mu Qingtian always made her feel more striking. Plus, Mu Qingtian was genuinely kind-hearted, and Nie Shuangshuang’s friendship with her was purely about having a good friend. That’s why Nie Shuangshuang loved sticking close to Mu Qingtian-so much so that she even considered Mu Qingtian’s home her own, though she rarely stayed there. Only when she got bored of her own place would she go over to stay, sharing a bed with Mu Qingtian for a night or two.
