Take Me Away, My Love - Chapter 43 - A Wonderful Day
In the luxurious and bright villa, a group of people on the sofa were watching TV. The remote control was being snatched back and forth among them, causing the TV screen to keep changing channels as buttons were repeatedly pressed.
Jian Qingtian and Ru Long, one big and one small figure, were like two children constantly vying for the remote. At one moment, the screen was tuned to a martial arts movie, and in the next, it changed to a cartoon.
Meanwhile, Gu Xing sat calmly, seemingly indifferent, sipping tea and reading the newspaper. Such skirmishes happened almost daily, and honestly, he had long been used to it.
After Auntie Chen and Zhang Mi washed some fruits in the kitchen, they brought them out and placed them on the coffee table in front of them, frowning as they said, “Ru Long, what are you doing? Competing with a kindergarten kid every day, aren’t you ashamed? Stop messing around and come eat some fruit.”
“This little brat needs discipline. He’s so unruly. Today, I’m definitely going to teach him a lesson and let him know who the real boss is.”
Ru Long shouted angrily, standing up and holding the remote high above his head.
With his tall and large figure, he already resembled a giant in front of Jian Qingtian, which made Jian Qingtian even more anxious.
In his anger, he dashed directly to the TV and pressed the power button.
“Thump!”
The TV screen turned black.
Then, Jian Qingtian crossed his arms and looked at Ru Long with a proud expression. His smug little face was clearly provoking.
“You…”
Just as Ru Long was about to lose his temper, the doorbell rang. No need to guess, at this time, it must be Jian Yiqing returning.
Jian Qingtian quickly ran to the door to greet him, not forgetting to make faces at Ru Long. He knew that once Dad was back, he had to behave.
But as the door opened, the sight of two close figures left Jian Qingtian stunned.
Jian Yiqing stood at the door, and the woman beside him looked somewhat unfamiliar yet strangely familiar. The bright smile on her face seemed to throw Jian Qingtian’s thoughts into disarray.
Jian Qingtian stared blankly at the two people in front of him, finally asking, “Dad, who is she?”
Blood relations are strange; even if two people are strangers, if they share the same blood, there can be an inexplicable sense of familiarity upon meeting unexpectedly.
Just like when Jian Qingtian saw the made-up Li Minchun before, and now as he sees the real Li Minchun.
“Son, I’m your mother!”
Despite having imagined countless times how the reunion with her son would go, Li Minchun still felt nervous in this moment.
Even someone as strong-willed as her found her voice slightly trembling as she spoke.
She slowly crouched down, extending her arms, wanting to embrace her son. However, Jian Qingtian instinctively stepped back in reaction to this scene.
The surprise and resistance in his eyes deeply hurt Li Minchun.
Jian Yiqing embraced Li Minchun to comfort her, saying, “Don’t worry, our son is still young. Give him some time, and he will accept you.”
As he spoke, he wrapped one arm around Li Minchun’s waist and took his son’s hand, leading them into the villa.
The others, who had been playfully bickering moments before, had already overheard their conversation.
Especially Gu Xing, whose eyes lit up with a rare brightness as he stared intently at the charming figure before him.
Seeing her finally after countless dreams, his heart twisted with emotion.
His conviction hadn’t been wrong-Li Minchun was bound to appear one day.
With this realization, a surge of emotion welled up inside him.
“I’m back.”
Li Minchun smiled gently at the familiar faces. What greeted her in return was a warm welcome.
Tonight, everyone was prepared to stay up all night. Cheers and laughter filled the villa.
After the cheers, Zhang Mi finally withdrew herself, feeling empty, and walked onto the balcony.
Only when she found herself outside the lively scene did she realize her feelings of solitude and detachment.
The night breeze blew gently, causing her eyes to feel drier and making it seem as though they wouldn’t open.
Squinting at the distant darkness and the nearby shimmering lights, she felt a sense of loss and melancholy settle over her.
Zhang Mi was indeed happy that Li Minchun had returned, but seeing Li Minchun and Jian Yiqing standing happily together filled her with profound sadness.
Never before had she felt such internal conflict and distress.
Even though she knew it wasn’t hers to hold onto, her heart still harbored a sliver of hope.
“Why aren’t you going inside?”
The cold voice beside her was Gu Xing’s.
Clad in black, Gu Xing appeared just as cold as his voice. However, if you truly understood him, you’d find that he was actually very dependable.
Zhang Mi forced a smile, feigning casualness. “It’s too noisy inside. I’ll head back in after enjoying a bit of fresh air.”
“You didn’t want Li Minchun to return, did you?” Gu Xing was always blunt, never sugar-coating his words.
“No, why would I think that?” Zhang Mi quickly refuted.
“You may not say it, but your face gives you away.” Gu Xing watched Zhang Mi’s near-frantic denial, and smiled as he raised a hand to stop her from speaking further. “Don’t deny it. I don’t like seeing them together either. But reason prevents me from being selfish. I suppose you feel the same way?”
Since Gu Xing was open with her, Zhang Mi found herself unable to hide her feelings any longer. She nodded gently.
Indeed, her feelings mirrored Gu Xing’s, full of contradictions.
Unconsciously, the two had become familiar with each other. Over the years, they had never connected as openly as they were today.
Standing on the chilly balcony, each holding a bottle of wine, they talked and drank in the night air. Their rapport was unexpectedly seamless.
Li Minchun quietly observed them from afar, then turned her gaze to Ru Long, who was engrossed in his singing. Nudging Jian Yiqing beside her, she said, “It seems that our Ru Long needs to find a woman.”
Jian Yiqing understood what Li Minchun meant and replied, “But Ru Long’s heart is still set on Chen Zhen, and she…”
“Leave it to me,” Li Minchun interrupted with determination. “Rest assured, we’ll make sure your brother gets his wish.”
“Mom, I’m tired and want to sleep…”
After a night of fun, their bond had grown much stronger. With Li Minchun having revealed her true identity from earlier, there was no doubt left, especially for Jian Qingtian. When Su Xin and Li Minchun became the same person in his eyes, he couldn’t have been happier.
Leaning against Li Minchun, he was nearly dozing off.
“Alright, let’s go up to bed,” Li Minchun said, picking Jian Qingtian up and heading upstairs.
Jian Yiqing felt a bit concerned and reached out to take the little guy from Li Minchun’s arms. “This little guy’s gotten quite big. Let me carry him; you might not be able to.”
Upon hearing this, Jian Qingtian clung to Li Minchun like an octopus, unwilling to let go.
Li Minchun chuckled and said, “It’s fine, don’t forget I have a mercenary background.”
With that, she carried Jian Qingtian upstairs.
It was a rare feeling of care and warmth for Jian Qingtian.
He was gently placed on the bed, covered with a blanket, and then serenaded with a beautiful lullaby.
Slowly, slowly, Jian Qingtian drifted into sleep.
Only when the gentle sound of breathing filled the room did Li Minchun quietly leave.
Yet, once the room returned to silence, Jian Qingtian’s eyes suddenly opened. In the darkness, they shone brightly, with tears streaming slowly down his cheeks, disappearing into the pillow.
Finally experiencing what it felt like to be a child, he was determined to cherish it. He vowed never to let his mother leave him again.
Reflecting on the life he had led over the years, Jian Qingtian’s resolve only deepened.
The night’s festivities gradually faded away.
The next morning, a terrified scream echoed through the house.
Li Minchun and the others upstairs hurriedly rushed down, almost as if yesterday’s events were replaying themselves. To their surprise, they were met with an all-too-familiar scene.
On the couch, two figures were tightly embraced. Their clothes were disheveled, and their position was more than a little suggestive.
To make matters worse, in his panic upon seeing the onlookers, Gu Xing accidentally fell off the couch.
This sent everyone into fits of laughter.
“You’ve got it wrong, it’s not what you think. Really, it’s not,” Zhang Mi said, flustered, as she looked at the grinning faces around her, wishing she could find a hole to hide in.
“Once might be an accident, but twice? Are you really going to say this scene is just another coincidence? I think you two should stop hiding it; you’re actually a good match,” Jian Yiqing remarked, smiling.
“No, it’s really not what it looks like,” Gu Xing scrambled to explain.
What on earth had happened? They had been drinking on the balcony last night; how did they end up on the couch, in such an embarrassing situation?
At this point, they found themselves unable to explain convincingly.
Li Minchun walked over with a smile and said, “You two should have started something a long time ago, right? Jian Yiqing and I are together now, and Ru Long is about to go find Chen Zhen. As for you two, after all these years, do you really have no feelings for each other? No spark at all? Ask yourselves honestly if that’s true.”
Her words struck them like a bolt of lightning, waking them up.
Memories of the past flashed before their eyes.
It seemed their eyes had been blind to it all along; they did have feelings for each other but were unwilling to acknowledge them.
For a moment, their minds were in a whirl, unsure of what to do next.
Li Minchun turned with a smile to Ru Long and said, “So, should we go take care of our business?”
Hearing this, Ru Long’s eyes lit up instantly, and he looked at Li Minchun in surprise, his excitement obvious.
“You’re taking me to Chen Zhen’s? You can convince her to open the door for me?”
With that one sentence, Ru Long’s situation was laid bare.
All this time, Chen Zhen hadn’t even let him through the door.
Realizing this, the group burst into laughter, nearly drowning out Ru Long. Even Zhang Mi and Gu Xing, who had been blushing with embarrassment just moments ago, now found themselves laughing uncontrollably, momentarily forgetting their earlier predicament.
