Take Me Away, My Love - Chapter 42 - A Perfect Shot
While Cheng Duo and Cheng Mo were still focused intently on Jian Yiqing, contemplating whether to deal with him right there, a muffled “pfft” echoed. Jian Yiqing suddenly dropped to the ground, breathless.
What? Jian Yiqing had been assassinated? That earlier shot, Cheng Mo heard it clearly-definitely a precise suppressor-equipped gun.
Then, an even more shocking event occurred.
In the same instant Jian Yiqing fell, a dark barrel turned towards Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo.
Hiding in the shadows, Li Minchun had already pulled the trigger. The suppressor-equipped gun in her hand fired a bullet aimed straight at Cheng Mo’s chest.
The speed of the shot was incredibly fast, leaving Cheng Mo almost no time to react.
“Bang!”
With that sound, the bullet successfully pierced through the front windshield, heading directly for Cheng Mo.
Due to its speed, she barely had time to dodge. She only managed to scream in surprise, “Step on it, drive fast!”
Cheng Duo, being battle-hardened, immediately dashed away, carrying the bloodied Cheng Mo.
At this moment, more and more gunmen began firing at them. The limited edition Bentley was soon riddled with bullet holes, in a devastating state.
Unconcerned about direction, Cheng Duo hunched over the steering wheel, desperately urging the car onwards, trying to escape this terrifying area as fast as possible.
The high-speed chase through the streets was chaotic, crashing into several other cars, yet still charging forward.
The car finally halted its frenzied race after careening off the road and plunging into the sea.
The relentless mercenaries eventually caught up to them.
Unfortunately, apart from finding the battered Bentley in the dark of night, they discovered nothing else.
Whether those two escaped or were carried away by the tides, no one could tell.
Li Minchun, after firing the gun, pretended to be innocent and quickly called for an ambulance to have Jian Yiqing taken away. In reality, she had deliberately missed slightly, so he shouldn’t be in any immediate danger. It was all just an act for Madam Li.
“Li Minchun, well done.”
At that moment, unbeknownst to her, Madam Li appeared behind her.
The cold praise sent a chill down Li Minchun’s spine, making her feel as though her entire body had frozen.
Turning around, she indeed saw that familiar figure and hurriedly knelt down. “Madam Li, what brings you here?”
Madam Li’s lips curved into a satisfied smile as she said, “You’ve truly proven to be my protégé. From now on, you are free.”
Li Minchun had waited a long time for these words. These nearly two years felt like an eternity, especially during her time with Jian Qingtian and Jian Yiqing, which made this moment even more poignant.
Now, in such an unexpected circumstance, hearing this news filled her heart with emotions that were beyond words.
“Thank you, Madam Li.”
“There’s no need to thank me; you earned it yourself.”
With that, Madam Li prepared to leave.
When Li Minchun turned around again, she saw the familiar face of Jian Yiqing. Observing his complex expression, she surmised that he already knew about Li Minchun’s actions.
Jian Yiqing had been hiding nearby, wanting to learn what Su Xin’s planned action was. Witnessing Su Xin shoot his double and then aiming at Cheng Mo, he began to understand.
After everyone departed, even the mysterious Madam Li had shown up. He also overheard their conversation.
Could it be, could all of this…
Suddenly, Jian Yiqing saw the light.
Only then did he reveal himself.
Facing the familiar yet unfamiliar face in front of him, Jian Yiqing reached out with a trembling hand, cautiously, as if he were making a huge gamble, carefully extending it until it reached Li Minchun’s cheek.
When he finally touched a slight bump, he pulled hard.
As the mask was torn away, Jian Yiqing finally saw the person he had been longing for day and night, now standing right before him. Her eyes were filled with countless emotions, brimming with tears, staring unblinkingly at him.
Even though he had mentally prepared himself, the moment Jian Yiqing saw Li Minchun, he felt a wave of dizziness.
One hand pulled her forcefully into his embrace, while the other slipped inside her clothes.
This time, Li Minchun did not resist, allowing Jian Yiqing to caress the scars on her back.
As his vision and senses fully merged, Jian Yiqing was too overwhelmed to speak. Uncontrollable tears fell, dropping onto her dark hair.
With strong arms, he held Li Minchun tightly in his embrace.
Feeling the warmth radiating from her, an indescribable sense of comfort filled his heart.
“Do you hate me? For deceiving you,” Li Minchun asked cautiously from within his embrace.
Jian Yiqing’s voice was hoarse but unwavering: “Silly, how could I ever hate you? I’m barely able to love you enough, my wife.”
Li Minchun finally shed tears too.
Hand in hand, they returned to the secret room.
This meeting was unlike all the previous times.
After laying everything bare, words got caught in their throats, making it nearly impossible to speak.
“I have so much to say to you now, but I don’t know where to start. Honestly, I’ve imagined many times how we would meet, conjured various scenarios in my mind, but not this one. You always manage to surprise me.”
Jian Yiqing’s eyes shone brightly, filled with endless warmth.
Li Minchun smiled and said to Jian Yiqing, “I’ve always been quietly watching over you. You had no idea how terrified I was when I first learned you were the Ling Kong chief. I was really lost, not knowing what to do. Until…”
“Until Cheng Mo wanted to infiltrate Ling Kong? So you came up with a plan to swap identities?” Jian Yiqing asked with a smile.
Li Minchun nodded and said, “Yes, initially, I thought about finding someone to replace you. But it didn’t seem realistic, as several people knew your identity as the Ling Kong chief. Who could guarantee that they wouldn’t leak this secret? So the best way was to use a scapegoat, to make everyone truly believe you were dead. Then, choose a competent person to become Ling Kong chief. You could then retreat into the background, wouldn’t that be better?”
Listening to Li Minchun’s analysis, Jian Yiqing frowned helplessly, “So, you’ve already mapped out my future for me?”
Li Minchun playfully stuck out her tongue, “What, you don’t like it?”
“Like it? How could I not like it? I’d be thrilled if you planned all my meals, clothing, housing, and travel,” Jian Yiqing said, as he pulled Li Minchun tightly into his embrace, her head nestled against his chest.
Never before had he felt so secure as he did at that moment.
It was as if the entire world had become clear and bright.
All the previous worries were dissolved thanks to Li Minchun’s clever maneuvering.
With no enemies and no longer a mercenary, they could finally live their lives happily together.
Still, there was a part of Li Minchun that was concerned about these matters.
After all, if her little tricks were uncovered, it could become very troublesome.
Li Minchun said, “I want to leave here as soon as possible and never come back. What do you think?”
“Where do you want to go? Zhenmu Island?” When it came to living in seclusion, Zhenmu Island was undoubtedly the best choice.
However, Li Minchun shook her head and said, “No, the organization has already found Zhenmu Island and can come and go freely. We can’t bring threats to the residents of Zhenmu Island; we’d better find another place.”
Thinking of the pure, simple, and kind villagers on Zhenmu Island, Li Minchun felt unwilling to disturb them. She didn’t want to expose them to the harshness of the world, let alone stain their eyes with red.
Letting them live quietly and peacefully for generations seemed best.
Jian Yiqing nodded, then playfully tapped her nose with his finger and said, “I think before we look at a map to choose a place, there’s something more important we need to do.”
Li Minchun was a bit surprised, trying to recall anything she might have overlooked in her meticulous plans. She thought she had considered everything; what else needed attention?
For a moment, she was bewildered by Jian Yiqing.
But Jian Yiqing, with a mischievous grin, parted her legs and leaned closer, saying, “Have you not thought of me at all these past two years?”
As he spoke, he moved in close to her ear, gently nibbling on her earlobe, sending tingling sensations through her body like electric currents.
“Oh, what are you trying to do? Aren’t we supposed to be reminiscing?” Li Minchun pushed back, trying to evade his advances, but soon realized it was futile.
The eager Jian Yiqing leaned in more, gasping slightly, “I haven’t touched a woman in two years. Can’t you let me be indulgent for once? Besides, this is a kind of reminiscing too. Tonight, I’ll show you what it means to relive old dreams…”
“Go away…”
