Take Me Away, My Love - Chapter 41 - The Real and Fake Chief
In a few days, the Ling Kong leader’s gathering would take place. Naturally, under such circumstances, the Ling Kong chief was expected to appear.
Before this event, Li Minchun had secretly reported the whereabouts of Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo to Madam Li.
Upon learning that Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo were planning to infiltrate the Ling Kong organization, a ruthless expression immediately spread across Madam Li’s face. Even though Li Minchun knew it wasn’t directed at her, she still shivered with fear upon seeing that expression.
Madam Li ordered coldly, “Leave this matter to me. You don’t need to worry about it. Moreover, the financial backer has already made a request. No matter what it takes, you must quickly kill the Ling Kong chief. Do you understand? You have no time to delay further.”
“Yes.”
Li Minchun accepted the order.
Over the subsequent days, she began organizing various plans.
She intended to have the fake chief appear at the gathering and then be killed by her. In this way, Madam Li would be satisfied, and she would gain her freedom.
The only concern was that Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo might also be present. As long as these two were around, Li Minchun felt that unexpected issues could arise.
Therefore, her plan needed to be even more meticulous.
After preparing a mask to place on the face of the stand-in, Li Minchun kept examining it but still felt uneasy. There was always a sense that something was off, as if there was a flaw somewhere.
Creating a mask to resemble someone’s face is completely different from just crafting an anonymous face-it requires cloning someone’s facial features.
The former might create an illusion, but the latter needed to convince people this person was indeed Jian Yiqing.
Standing behind Li Minchun and watching her constantly adjust the mask and meticulously measure with a pencil, Jian Yiqing suddenly had a bold idea.
Ever since Su Xin appeared, no matter the occasion or time, she has always worn her hair long and draped over her shoulders, whether it’s straight or styled with large waves.
It seems, I have never seen her hair tied up. Could it be that her face, just like this mask, also conceals her own story?
While pondering this, Jian Yiqing’s hand involuntarily reached towards Li Minchun’s face.
In an instant, upon sensing the movement, Li Minchun quickly dodged and then, with a wary expression, looked at Jian Yiqing and asked, “What are you trying to do?”
Jian Yiqing did not respond but instead quickly thrust his hand forward again. The speed of his palm strike was so swift it significantly changed Li Minchun’s expression.
Seeing his hand reach out once more, Li Minchun quickly sidestepped and, wearing ten-centimeter high heels, kicked directly towards his groin.
Faced with this situation, Jian Yiqing had no choice but to pull back his hand quickly, otherwise, he was likely to lose the future “pleasures” of being a man.
Finally, with no choice but to retract his hand, he looked sharply at Li Minchun and asked, “I think I have reason to suspect, right?”
Li Minchun smiled and said, “I also have reason to refuse to answer your doubt, right? You better behave, or I’m out of this.”
After speaking, Li Minchun returned to her workbench to continue her meticulous crafting.
Making masks is a precise and complex process that definitely requires attention to detail and skill.
Soon, sweat began to slowly seep from her forehead. Tiny beads of sweat covered her entire face.
After struggling for a while, Li Minchun wiped the sweat from her brow with her sleeve and breathed a sigh of relief: “Finally done.”
Then, she carefully fitted the mask onto the face of the stand-in. Once everything was set, even Jian Yiqing was taken aback.
The face before him felt as if he was looking in a mirror. It was an exact copy. How did she manage that?
Li Minchun admired her work, a look of pride on her face: “Alright, from now on, you are Ling Kong’s chief, Jian Yiqing, got it? No matter what happens, you should speak less and remain calm, understand?”
After receiving Li Minchun’s instructions, the man nodded.
They had already discussed this. With Li Minchun around, his safety was assured. After the mission, he would also receive fifty million as compensation.
For someone driven to desperation, almost to the point of suicide, such an assignment was a godsend.
Even if the plan failed and he was killed by a gun, there was no real loss. At least with Li Minchun’s help, he had lived several days longer.
There were risks, but the reward was indeed tempting, and he readily agreed.
“Now, let’s have our Chief Shangguan make a little sacrifice,” Li Minchun said as she took out a very ordinary set of clothes and put them on Jian Yiqing.
In the past, Jian Yiqing would have looked down on such attire, but after the incident on Zhenmu Island, he had come to see these external matters differently.
After putting on the clothes, Li Minchun applied some makeup to slightly alter his appearance.
Soon, Jian Yiqing looked completely different. If someone wasn’t familiar or didn’t look closely, they likely wouldn’t recognize him at all.
“I see, this is what they call transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary,” Jian Yiqing said in amazement, glancing at the man beside him and then looking in the mirror.
“Stop flattering me. We should split up,” Li Minchun replied.
She then guided the disguised Jian Yiqing towards the banquet.
“When you go up there, just show your face, make some polite small talk, don’t linger too long, and come out early, okay?” Li Minchun reminded him once more.
After the confirmation, Li Minchun went in first.
After greeting some acquaintances nearby, she soon spotted Cheng Duo and Cheng Mo in the distance.
Those two never expected to see anyone familiar here, so they didn’t bother wearing masks. Besides, the top expert in mask-making among this group of mercenaries was Li Minchun; no one else could match her skills, so they dared not risk embarrassment.
After all, wearing a mask easily seen through would be quite humiliating.
For her safety, Li Minchun stayed in the corner and didn’t approach Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo.
Xian Cheng and Chen Zhen were too familiar with her, so even with a mask, they could recognize her by her body language and other cues.
But Cheng Mo might not. Even if she knew Li Minchun well, she wouldn’t be able to pick her out in a crowd right away.
“The chief is here.”
Someone shouted, and suddenly all eyes turned toward the entrance.
But when Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo saw Jian Yiqing, sharp in a tailored suit, appear at the door, their eyes nearly popped out of their heads in shock.
What on earth was happening?
Jian Yiqing had become the Ling Kong chief? And he was right here in front of them.
They had been considering infiltrating Ling Kong to make contact with Jian Yiqing, but now that idea seemed utterly foolish.
However, Jian Yiqing didn’t seem to pay them any mind. After greeting the crowd, he turned and walked away.
Watching him gradually disappear from view, Cheng Mo was so furious that she nearly crushed the glass in her hand. All their recent efforts had been in vain; it felt as if they’d been unwittingly working for their enemy’s benefit. It was as if they had prepared a feast for a rival’s wedding.
In their frustration, Cheng Mo and Cheng Duo stormed out, ignoring everyone around them.
They feared that if they stayed any longer, they might go mad.
As soon as they got into the limited-edition Bentley, the two began to argue.
“I told you it was reckless to just charge in without even knowing who the Ling Kong chief was. But you wouldn’t listen, and now look, it’s that harbinger of bad luck.”
Just thinking about how Jian Yiqing had not only aligned himself with an overseas criminal organization but also turned Changyun Group into a thriving enterprise and now become the Ling Kong chief, filled Cheng Duo with a burning anger.
What made this guy so special?
All these years, in every way, he had been better. Now, he surpassed him yet again. The thought was unbearable.
“You’re blaming me? When I suggested it, you didn’t oppose it either,” Cheng Mo snapped back, also furious.
“Alright, let’s not fight. We need to think of another plan. Are we really going to hide out in Italy forever?”
The thought of living an incognito life, like a turtle in its shell, made Cheng Duo feel a wave of despair wash over him.
Thinking back, if only he had married Li Minchun instead of Cheng Mo, perhaps things would have turned out differently.
“Cheng Duo, don’t think I’m dependent on you for survival. I’ll be just fine on my own,” Cheng Mo said, ready to step out of the car.
Cheng Duo wouldn’t allow it.
After all, Cheng Mo held control over sixty percent of his assets. If she left, it would truly be a disaster for him.
Not just for the alluring woman she was, but for the sake of his wealth, he quickly embraced her and soothed, “Come on, sweetheart, let’s not stay angry. This was merely a small setback, wasn’t it? We’ll regroup and figure this out soon enough.”
In the midst of their heated exchange, they happened to catch a glimpse of Jian Yiqing reappearing.
“Look, Jian Yiqing is coming out. What do you think he’s up to?”
