Take Me Away, My Love - Chapter 39 - Quite Interesting
When the news reached Jian Yiqing, he was not angry; instead, a smile appeared on his face, and his eyes squinted with amusement.
You have to admit, this woman is quite interesting. He knows his own son well; without some strictness, he wouldn’t show respect to anyone. Even himself, in front of Jian Qingtian, might end up being mocked.
However, this woman, Aunt Su Xin, has only appeared two or three times and has already conquered his son.
When he went upstairs, he was amazed at the transformation. The room was clean and tidy, unlike the old chaotic reign of the little tyrant.
Previously, as soon as the housekeeper tidied up, the little guy would wreck the place in no time.
But now, he was quietly doing his homework at the desk.
Was it a trick of the eye? Or had Aunt Su Xin worked her magic?
“You’re not going to play soccer today?” Jian Yiqing asked, quite surprised.
Jian Qingtian lifted his head from a pile of notebooks and said, “I’m going to stay home and do my homework properly. Aunt Su Xin said if I’m good, she’ll take me on a picnic when I have a day off the day after tomorrow.”
As he spoke, he looked at Jian Yiqing with excitement.
“A picnic? Sounds like a great idea.” It brought to mind the image of a family playing under the sunny woods, enjoying a picnic they brought along-it sounded delightful.
“Do you want to go?” Jian Qingtian’s brows furrowed.
Jian Yiqing was taken aback: “Why, can’t I go?”
“Of course not, Aunt Su Xin said she’s only taking me, no one else,” Jian Qingtian replied, not even bothering to look at Jian Yiqing’s frustrated face, and continued burying his head in his notebooks, writing away.
Jian Yiqing was almost driven mad with frustration. How could it turn out this way, with something fun happening and not being included? What kind of world was this?
Unable to contain his annoyance, he called Li Minchun, not caring whether it was work hours or not.
“Hello, who’s this?”
Li Minchun, who was applying a facial mask, answered the phone almost by feel, without checking the caller ID.
But after saying hello for a while, the other person didn’t respond. Did she accidentally press the wrong button in her daze? When she removed the cucumber slices from her eyes and opened them, she was instantly shocked.
The screen clearly displayed the words “Beast,” and the call duration was changing: 56 seconds, 57 seconds, 58 seconds…
Oh my goodness, it was a call from Jian Yiqing.
Her earlier leisure vanished instantly, and she cautiously addressed the phone, “Chief, what can I do for you?”
Little did Li Minchun know, her casual inquiry had shattered Jian Yiqing’s mental defenses completely.
That voice, that tone was so familiar. Who else could it be but Li Minchun? Never before had he felt such an urgent desire to know everything about Su Xin.
Or, after hearing this voice, he was even more eager to know if Su Xin was indeed Li Minchun. If she was, why was she hiding her identity?
He forgot what he initially intended to say, and instead, blurted out, “Stay home, I’m coming over right now!”
After saying that, he hung up hastily, regardless of her reaction.
“Wait, can you find my house?”
Before Li Minchun could finish speaking on the other end, she heard the busy signal.
He’s coming? He’s really coming?
The thought of Jian Yiqing coming over soon stirred an inexplicable panic in Li Minchun’s heart.
Her mood seemed to grow more anxious.
For a moment, she even forgot to remove the mask from her face, not knowing what she should do next.
“Ding dong!”
The crisp sound of the doorbell startled Li Minchun instantly.
It suddenly clicked in her mind-the crucial question. It couldn’t be, was he standing at the door while making the call? How did he get here so fast?
As she was contemplating this, the doorbell rang again and again.
In a panic, she rushed toward the door, only to accidentally bump her leg against the coffee table, almost bringing tears to her eyes from the pain. She kept cursing herself inwardly, it wasn’t such a big deal, so why was she so flustered?
When she opened the door, the person outside was greeted by the sight of Li Minchun with a face mask on, wearing loose loungewear, grimacing and rubbing her knee.
“What happened to you?”
It was Xian Cheng who had come in.
At the sight of him, Li Minchun felt a flicker of disappointment but also a wave of relief-thank goodness.
“Nothing, just bumped into the coffee table.”
“How did you manage that? Let me take a look.”
As Xian Cheng spoke, he moved to help her up. Li Minchun hurriedly stepped aside and said, “It’s nothing, it will be fine soon. We’ve dealt with worse injuries during training, why fuss over such a small thing? By the way, what brings you here today?”
“Oh, right!”
Actually, what Xian Cheng wanted to say was, “My dear, don’t you know that concern brings chaos?”
“I’m just here to check on you, what’s wrong, not happy to see me?” Xian Cheng smiled.
A trace of embarrassment flashed across Li Minchun’s face, and she reluctantly said, “It’s not that.”
But in her heart, she was thinking about what to say when Jian Yiqing arrived soon. How would she introduce him?
For a moment, she was particularly fearful of Jian Yiqing seeing her with Xian Cheng. What if there was a misunderstanding?
But on second thought, right now her identity was Su Xin, so what did it matter if there was a misunderstanding? Moreover, her situation didn’t really have much to do with Jian Yiqing, did it?
Her mind was in chaos, unsure of what to do.
Seeing Li Minchun sweating profusely, Xian Cheng said, “It’s so warm in here. Why don’t you turn on the air conditioning?”
Li Minchun suddenly realized, “Oh? Haha, yeah, why didn’t I turn on the AC in this heat? Silly me.”
Saying this, she grabbed a remote control nearby and started pressing buttons frantically, aiming at the AC.
Watching the TV switch on and off several times, Xian Cheng finally couldn’t hold back and said with a wry smile, “Li Minchun, why are you pressing the TV remote at the AC for so long?”
“Ah!”
That completely broke Li Minchun.
Never before had she been this flustered.
Her typically calm demeanor vanished, leaving Xian Cheng internally baffled.
“Are you hiding something from me?” Xian Cheng asked cautiously.
“No, what would I be hiding?”
Li Minchun attempted to deny it, but her phone lit up, revealing the caller ID: “Beast.”
Seeing the phone screen flashing repeatedly, Xian Cheng’s brow furrowed.
Panicked, Li Minchun answered the call. Sure enough, Jian Yiqing’s voice came through: “Where are you? I’m already in your neighborhood.”
Upon hearing this, Li Minchun shot up and quickly looked out the window. Sure enough, she saw Jian Yiqing’s Maserati. This jerk, he really did manage to find his way here.
“Why are you here to see me? Whatever you have to say, just say it over the phone,” Li Minchun hurriedly tried to brush him off, hoping to get rid of Jian Yiqing quickly.
But Jian Yiqing’s stubborn nature kicked in again as he shouted, “I’ll give you five minutes to show up, or else face the consequences!”
With that, all she heard was the dial tone.
This guy was clearly trying to push her to her limits.
She turned around and noticed Xian Cheng standing right there. Meeting Li Minchun’s gaze, Xian Cheng could sense that something not-so-good was brewing in her mind.
And it seemed like she needed his help with whatever it was. For a moment, Xian Cheng’s brows knitted into a deep furrow.
