Taboo Mage - Chapter 239 - Feng Suya's Hair
I emerged from the kitchen, hearing Chi Rui’s teasing voice behind me. I wanted to turn around and snap back at him, but then I thought, Zhou Qifang would deal with him soon enough. Why waste my breath now?
Back in the living room, I was about to head upstairs to catch up on sleep. After all, Hu Zhipeng’s business had nothing to do with me, and I didn’t want to waste my time.
Just as I reached the staircase, Zhou Qifang’s voice called out from behind, “Gu Qingshu, come here.”
I turned around, looking at Zhou Qifang with a puzzled expression. “What’s up? Need something?”
“Of course,” Zhou Qifang said, surprisingly with a smile on his face.
It was the first time I’d seen him like this. My legs almost gave way, but I found myself walking towards him involuntarily.
“I’ve got a good grasp of your requirements. Come back in two days to pick up the stuff,” Zhou Qifang said, pointing towards the door.
His intention to send them off was clear. Hu Zhipeng, being sensible, stood up, bid farewell to Zhou Qifang and me, and then left with Li Mi.
As their figures disappeared through the door, I immediately asked, “Zhou Qifang, what are you up to, demanding a girl’s hand?”
“It’s not your hand I’m asking for, so why are you so anxious?” Zhou Qifang’s gaze turned cold again, like a venomous snake.
I pouted and said, “It’s none of my business, true. I’m just worried you’re being too cruel. You know, there’s a special place in hell for people like you.”
“Don’t worry. My beliefs don’t include such a place,” Zhou Qifang smirked.
“Alright, what do you want me to do? If there’s nothing, I’m going upstairs.” I rolled my eyes. Talking to Zhou Qifang required a different mindset.
Zhou Qifang tossed a business card onto the coffee table. “This person is Hu Zhipeng’s wife. I need her hair.”
“If you need her hair, go get it yourself. What’s it got to do with me?” I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow.
Zhou Qifang narrowed his eyes and said menacingly, “If I could get it myself, would I need you?”
“I’m not their nanny. How am I supposed to get it?” I retorted.
It’s a woman’s hair! Am I supposed to sneak into their bathroom or disguise myself as a hairdresser?
“Wait, if you need Hu Zhipeng’s wife’s hair, shouldn’t you ask Hu Zhipeng to get it? Why involve me?”
Before I finished, Zhou Qifang looked at me as if I were an idiot.
I was puzzled. I didn’t think I was wrong…
“Gu Qingshu, have you slept so much that you’ve become stupid? Hu Zhipeng’s wife found out about his affair and even messed up his company. Do you think Hu Zhipeng can still see his wife? Even if he could, would he dare? Even if you gave him the courage of a lion, he wouldn’t dare provoke his wife now!”
Chi Rui, carrying a tray, emerged from the kitchen. Hearing my words, he leaned against the doorframe, laughing as he spoke.
I opened my mouth to argue but couldn’t think of anything to say.
It seemed… that made sense…
“Do you really need to explain this to Gu Qingshu? With his intelligence, he wouldn’t understand anyway,” Zhou Qifang said with a smile.
Chi Rui nodded in agreement. I looked at Chi Rui, then at Zhou Qifang. Since when did these two become so chummy?
“Damn!” I cursed under my breath, but my hand involuntarily picked up the business card Zhou Qifang had placed on the coffee table.
It was a simple, elegant card with a string of titles I had no interest in. My attention was drawn to the name on the card.
“Feng Suya.”
“With a name so refined, she doesn’t sound like the domineering wife Hu Zhipeng described,” Chi Rui said, chewing his food.
I snorted. “What, Young Master Chi, when did you start interpreting names?”
Feng Suya, the heiress of Yuanhao Group. Her father was the CEO of Yuanhao Group, and her mother held a high position in the Bureau of Industry and Commerce. Despite her prominent family background, she fell for Hu Zhipeng, who was just starting his company.
Hu Zhipeng was five years older than Feng Suya. Her family was initially against the marriage, but Feng Suya was stubborn and eventually married him.
After the wedding, Yuanhao Group supported their son-in-law’s company, helping it grow rapidly in a few years.
Feng Suya couldn’t have children and always feared Hu Zhipeng would have affairs. She could guard against one, but not many. Ten years into their marriage, Hu Zhipeng met Li Mi during one of his escapades.
That was six months ago. Hu Zhipeng fell for Li Mi at first sight and repeatedly hinted at wanting to keep her. But at that time, Li Mi was still hoping to develop something with me, so she ignored Hu Zhipeng’s advances.
Finally, after my firm rejections, Li Mi gave in. After receiving a limited edition bag from Hu Zhipeng, she became his mistress.
The first part of this story was told to Zhou Qifang by Hu Zhipeng, who then relayed it to me. The latter part was told to me by Li Mi.
In a quaint little café, I sat by the window, listening to Li Mi recount the events of the past six months. I couldn’t quite describe how I felt.
Especially when I heard that Li Mi chose Hu Zhipeng because of my rejections, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret.
“Brother Gu, if you could go back to that time, would you accept me?” Li Mi looked up, her big, watery eyes staring at me.
I didn’t know which time Li Mi was referring to.
Was it when we first met, when she was still a somewhat naive but pure student? Or was it the second time we met at the nightclub, when she clung to me?
I rubbed my chin, taking a sip of coffee to mask my discomfort. Deep down, I rejected the idea.
Because I knew, no matter the time, I wouldn’t accept Li Mi. Even if I had feelings for her back then, I believed everything was destined.
