Taboo Mage - Chapter 238 - Li Mi Gets Hit
As we stepped out of the lobby, a cold wind hit us, making me hunch my shoulders as I followed Chi Rui and Zhou Qifang towards the parking garage.
The car was parked close to the garage exit. I expertly maneuvered the car out, swiped my card to pay the parking fee, and instinctively glanced at the rearview mirror.
Suddenly, I saw Hu Zhipeng standing in a corner of the parking garage, arms crossed, looking furious. Opposite him stood Li Mi.
Li Mi was trembling all over. My brows furrowed sharply, and the next moment, I saw Hu Zhipeng raise his hand and slap Li Mi across the face.
The force of the blow sent Li Mi crashing into the wall. She hung her head, her long hair covering the side of her face, making it impossible for me to see her expression.
But I could imagine it wasn’t a pleasant one.
“Gu Qingshu, what are you spacing out for in the middle of the night? Didn’t you hear the honking behind us?”
Chi Rui’s irritated voice came from the back seat, snapping me back to reality. I glanced at the rearview mirror once more before stepping on the gas pedal.
The car sped away from De Yi Zhuang, and as we hit the main road, Zhou Qifang suddenly spoke up, “I saw Hu Zhipeng hit Li Mi.”
“Hmm?” I hadn’t expected Zhou Qifang to bring this up. From the rearview mirror, I could see his face was expressionless, leaving me unsure of his intentions.
But I knew that if Zhou Qifang brought it up, it wasn’t just idle chatter.
Sure enough, without waiting for me to respond, Zhou Qifang continued, “Hu Zhipeng told me he has a good relationship with his wife and never intended to divorce. But, you know, men sometimes stray. Somehow, his wife found out and caught them in the act.”
“You mean Li Mi tried to become the mistress by orchestrating this whole thing, so Hu Zhipeng’s wife would find out?” Chi Rui’s eyes widened, looking as if he’d stumbled upon some juicy gossip.
I kept my eyes fixed on the road ahead, but my mind was racing through all the possibilities. If Zhou Qifang was right, and Chi Rui’s guess was correct, then the reason Li Mi was so afraid of Hu Zhipeng, and why Hu Zhipeng hit her in public, was likely because Hu Zhipeng realized his marriage and company were in jeopardy because of Li Mi.
He probably just wanted a fling, but it ended up disrupting his life. No wonder Hu Zhipeng was furious.
“Tomorrow, Hu Zhipeng will come to see me again. I suspect he’ll bring Li Mi. If you can’t control your temper, I suggest you lock yourself in your room and don’t come out. If you mess up my business, I’ll have you sent to the best gender reassignment hospital in Bangkok,” Zhou Qifang said slowly, his eyes fixed on me.
A chill ran down my spine.
Gender reassignment? Turn me into a woman, or a ladyboy? Either way, I’d be letting down the ancestors of the Gu Family!
“I get it, don’t worry. I won’t interfere with your money-making!” I replied irritably.
The next morning, before I even got out of bed, I could hear voices downstairs in the living room.
I hated being disturbed during my sleep, so I always instructed Lin Huan to warn guests not to come too early, or I’d chase them out with a rolling pin.
“Boss, get up! The guests are here!”
I was irritably scratching my head in bed when a rapid knock came at the door, followed by Lin Huan’s annoying voice.
I let out a frustrated yell, got out of bed, quickly washed up, and looked downstairs.
Sure enough, Hu Zhipeng was sitting on the sofa, with Li Mi beside him. Seeing Li Mi brought back the scene from last night.
I instinctively scrutinized Li Mi’s face. It wasn’t swollen, but I could faintly see the outline of five fingers, though it wasn’t very clear. I wasn’t sure if it was just my imagination.
Zhou Qifang was sitting on a single-seater sofa opposite them, holding a cup. I blinked and headed downstairs.
“You’re up? Breakfast is in the microwave, heat it yourself.”
As soon as Zhou Qifang saw me, he turned and said.
I nodded, acknowledging Hu Zhipeng and Li Mi, and headed to the kitchen.
“Mr. Zhou, when can we start? My company can’t wait any longer.”
I was rummaging through the fridge for a bottle of milk, planning to make do with it, when I heard Hu Zhipeng’s voice.
Zhou Qifang replied coldly, “We can start right away, but before we do, I want to ask one last time: are you sure about this? My requirements aren’t just about money.”
Hearing Zhou Qifang’s words, I tightened my grip on the milk, instinctively glancing towards the kitchen door.
Li Mi kept her head down, silent, while Hu Zhipeng hastily said, “No problem, Li Mi already explained everything to me. Though I’m reluctant, there’s no other choice now.”
I snorted. No other choice, so he was making a woman make such a huge sacrifice for him?
I could almost guess that in Hu Zhipeng’s mind, what Li Mi was doing was entirely justified.
He must be thinking, who told her to ruin his happy family life…
Looking at Li Mi sitting there, dressed in high-end clothes, holding a designer bag, I recalled seeing the same brand in Chi Rui’s room. Chi Rui lived lavishly, so that brand wasn’t cheap.
For some reason, an image suddenly popped into my mind.
It was of Li Mi, having lost her right hand, using her elbow to carry that luxurious bag, looking excited and happy as she walked through a shopping mall. All eyes were on her, but she seemed oblivious, just weaving through one luxury store after another.
“Hey, what are you thinking about? Daydreaming in the morning?”
Chi Rui appeared out of nowhere and slapped the back of my head. I glared at him and shoved the milk into his hand.
“This guy, skipping breakfast to drink milk, acting like a woman, so pretentious.”
