Taboo Mage - Chapter 233 - Selling One Hand
Just as I finished speaking, Li Mi hadn’t had time to react when Zhou Qifang pushed the door open and walked in. Seeing Li Mi and me sitting together didn’t seem to surprise him in the slightest.
“So? Have you made up your mind?”
He directed this question at Li Mi. I glanced at her, hoping that my earlier words might have sunk in a bit, so she wouldn’t make a decision she’d regret.
She didn’t know Zhou Qifang, but I did. Zhou Qifang had his own standards, and Li Mi and Boss Hu’s attempts to manipulate him were doomed to fail.
Moreover, I couldn’t believe Boss Hu would actually divorce and marry her, a woman who had lost a hand, let alone provide her with lifelong wealth and luxury. Who would spend so much money on someone who was of no use to them?
No matter how you looked at it, Li Mi was destined to fail.
I stared at the woman in front of me, hoping she would see the hopeless situation she was in and leave, never to return.
But then, Li Mi suddenly looked up at me, a faint, sorrowful smile on her lips, and then she turned to Zhou Qifang, saying firmly, “I’ve made up my mind. I’m willing.”
“Really?” This time, it was Zhou Qifang who was surprised. He raised an eyebrow, looking at Li Mi with a hint of amusement.
Li Mi nodded again, “Yes, I’m willing to trade my right hand.”
“Excellent! You can bring Boss Hu over anytime. I need to know more about his situation.”
Once confirmed, Zhou Qifang gave Li Mi no chance to back out. After speaking, he tossed a business card onto the table in front of her.
“Call before you come. I might be sleeping.”
With that, Zhou Qifang smiled and returned to his room.
The sound of his shoes on the stairs felt like a hammer pounding on my heart. I turned to see Li Mi carefully placing Zhou Qifang’s business card into her handbag.
“Li Mi, do you know who Zhou Qifang really is?” I asked, my voice serious.
Li Mi shook her head, “I don’t know, but my life is already like this. It can’t get much worse, so I don’t want to miss even the slightest opportunity.”
With that, Li Mi stood up and walked out.
I watched her slender figure disappear through the door and couldn’t help but sigh. Perhaps until this moment, I hadn’t truly understood Li Mi. There was something about her that I had never really recognized.
But her future was her own, and once she made her decision, no one could change it for her.
Back upstairs, Zhou Qifang was standing by the railing, looking at me. “Guess why I want her right hand?”
“No idea,” I replied honestly, glancing at Zhou Qifang.
“Do you want to know?” Zhou Qifang seemed to be teasing me, his lips curling slightly, a playful glint in his eyes.
I shook my head, “If it were yesterday, I might have been curious. Curiosity is hard to suppress. But just now, I realized I don’t want to know anymore.”
“Why?” Zhou Qifang frowned, seemingly surprised by my response.
I leaned on the railing, pointing towards the door, “Because through Li Mi, I realized that you and I are from completely different worlds. People from different worlds are destined to part ways eventually. Since I’m just a passerby, why should I be curious?”
With that, I turned and went back to my room.
As the door closed behind me, I felt an unprecedented sense of relief, as if something important had finally been let go.
Sitting on the bed, I stared at the window for a long time, suddenly remembering that I was downstairs waiting for Zhou Qifang. I had intended to question him about why he had been slacking off lately!
How could I forget such an important matter…
Feeling bored, I decided to find Zhou Qifang and argue with him for fun. So I got up from the bed and rushed outside, but Zhou Qifang was nowhere to be seen. I went to his room, but it was empty.
A series of clanging sounds reached my ears, coming from the storage room downstairs.
What was Zhou Qifang doing in my storage room?
Curiosity piqued, I quickly walked over. The storage room door was wide open, and sure enough, Zhou Qifang was inside, muttering something while hammering away.
“Hey! What are you up to? Weren’t you supposed to be making amends to our old man? How come I haven’t seen any sincerity from you lately?”
I leaned against the doorframe, speaking rather tactfully. In truth, I wanted to say, “Why aren’t you kneeling before our old man’s ancestral tablet yet? What are you doing with all this DIY stuff?”
But as the words reached my lips, I decided to be more tactful because I sensed Zhou Qifang was radiating anger. I feared he might throw the hammer at my head.
After all, Lin Huan wasn’t around, and if it came to a one-on-one fight, I definitely wouldn’t be a match for Zhou Qifang.
Clearly, I overestimated the tactfulness of my words. As soon as I finished speaking, Zhou Qifang turned around, his gaze fierce enough to eat me alive.
I felt I hadn’t done anything wrong or said anything wrong, so it must be that he was in a bad mood.
I pursed my lips and decided to leave this dangerous place before I got caught in the crossfire.
Just as I turned to leave, Zhou Qifang called out, “Gu Qingshu, you’re going to be my assistant for this deal.”
“Why should I?” I instinctively retorted.
How could he be so unreasonable? This was his deal; why should I help him, and as an assistant no less?
Did I look like someone who should be an assistant?
Zhou Qifang didn’t respond, his gaze on me as if I were an idiot, as if to say, “I’m just informing you, not seeking your consent.”
That feeling was very unpleasant, and I squinted, ready to speak.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang from outside.
I thought it was Lin Huan returning, ready to scold him for being so clumsy with the door. If he broke it, would he pay for it?
“I’m back! Gu Qingshu! Where did you go?”
A familiar voice echoed from the living room, and I paused for a moment before quickly heading out.
