Taboo Mage - Chapter 221 - The Despicable Person
At that time, he was just as miserable and pitiful, kneeling in front of me, begging me to save him.
I agreed, but what I received in return was his repeated betrayal, and in the end, he even sought to eliminate me completely.
Suddenly, I wondered what would happen this time. If I agreed to Old Lady Xu, what kind of ending awaited me?
Would it be another betrayal? I didn’t want to go through that experience a second time.
Old Lady Xu looked up at me, her face filled with hope. But when I saw her expression, I felt not a shred of pity in my heart.
Seeing that I had no reaction, Old Lady Xu lowered her head and was momentarily stunned. Then she crawled directly in front of Jue Chi, crying out in the same miserable and pitiful way, pleading with him to help her.
Jue Chi sighed lightly and shook his head helplessly. “It’s not that I don’t want to help, but I truly have no power over your situation.”
After saying that, Jue Chi glanced at me as if seeking my assistance.
I cursed him in my heart. This Jue Chi, it was one thing not to help, but now he had to push the matter onto me. Did I really look that understanding, as if I would help anyone who asked?
It seemed like Old Lady Xu received some important hint because she returned to me, repeatedly bowing and admitting her faults.
“I was wrong! I know I was wrong! My son didn’t mean it, and I didn’t do it on purpose! Please save me! As long as I’m fine, my son can give you whatever you want!”
Her words were heartfelt, and her crying was utterly heartbreaking. I frowned; although I understood the situation’s background, I had no experience dealing with an animal possession and was completely hesitant to take action.
I shifted my gaze to Zhou Qifang, who didn’t respond. Instead, he shot me a glare that seemed to convey his desire to devour me.
I chuckled awkwardly, scratching my head and said, “Aunt, I’m not skilled enough for this. It’s impossible for me to handle it. Could you perhaps ask someone else for help?”
In Chinese culture, it has always been hard to refuse the elderly and children. Five thousand years of morality are laid out, and the respect for elders and love for the young deeply influence the minds of the Chinese people at all times.
Looking at Old Lady Xu’s desperate tears, it was impossible to say that I wasn’t touched deep down inside. However, I couldn’t involve myself in this matter, nor would I.
However, Zhou Qifang was different. Although he was a genuine Chinese, he had absorbed the mentality of Thailand, specifically Bangkok. To him, concepts like respecting the elderly and loving children were meaningless.
Therefore, passing this matter onto Zhou Qifang was the most suitable option.
Sure enough, when Old Lady Xu caught my hint, she knelt down in front of Zhou Qifang and continued to cry. I felt a bit tired for her, wondering where all those tears came from.
Zhou Qifang lived up to expectations and remained unfazed, sitting on the sofa like a mountain, not even batting an eyelid.
I was about to send Lin Huan in to comfort the old lady and resolve this situation.
Who knew, before I could take any action, Xu Benzhang, who had been knocked unconscious by Zhou Qifang, slowly opened his eyes and scanned the room.
I was considering whether I should first get Xu Benzhang out of the way and then figure out how to settle Old Lady Xu in a safe place to prevent him from going berserk and hitting her again.
As expected, before I could put that thought into action, Xu Benzhang sprang up from the ground, his agile movements surprising for someone of his stout build.
I watched in shock as, within seconds, Xu Benzhang leaped over the coffee table and chairs, directly launching himself at Old Lady Xu.
“Hey! What are you doing!”
Even before I finished speaking, there was a sharp slap echoed through the room! Xu Benzhang’s hand had already come crashing against his own mother’s face.
I saw Old Lady Xu stare blankly at her son, and then she belatedly flipped Xu Benzhang onto the ground and started crying and making a fuss.
“You unfilial son! Unfilial son!”
Xu Benzhang froze for a moment and then grabbed his mother by the collar, asking, “Mom? Are you my mom?”
“You ungrateful son! If I’m not your mother, then who am I?” Old Lady Xu spat at Xu Benzhang and yelled in anger.
Xu Benzhang stared blankly at the person standing in front of him, then suddenly grinned eerily. “You’re lying to me! You old dog!”
After saying that, Xu Benzhang’s expression suddenly turned cold, and he raised his hand to slap Old Lady Xu again. I quickly rushed over and grabbed Xu Benzhang’s arm.
“Damn it! Are you insane?” I swung my fist and landed a punch on Xu Benzhang’s face, angrily shouting, “How can you put your hands on your own mother!”
“She’s not my mom!” Xu Benzhang yelled back.
Old Lady Xu was crying louder and louder beside me, and I watched as her tears and snot smeared all over her sleeve. A wave of sourness surged in my heart.
“Look closely! That’s your mother! She’s awake now! Aren’t you afraid of being struck by lightning?”
I shouted several times, and finally, Xu Benzhang snapped back to reality. He looked at me, then at his mother, and suddenly burst into weeping.
The mother and son embraced again, crying in a pitiful manner.
Watching their display, I couldn’t quite articulate my feelings. It could be said they deserved this fate, but they were still victims at that moment. However, if they were completely innocent, then what about the Cycle of Cause and Effect? If they hadn’t sown the seeds of this chaos, how could they be facing such dire consequences today?
I let out a sigh, turning my head away to avoid looking at the pitiful yet detestable pair.
That’s how people are; those who are most pitiable often have their flaws. It was a pity that they didn’t realize that not every problem could be solved with extreme measures.
As I thought about this, memories began flooding back-Li Mi, Xu-Jie, and all the others flashed through my mind like scenes from a movie.
Everyone was hard to truly hate, but just as difficult to love.
Perhaps this also explained why I had been struck back by my life amulet in the first place.
In the Cycle of Cause and Effect, the Gu Family could never escape their fate.
Looking at the Xu family duo before me, I once again deeply understood this principle.
