Taboo Mage - Chapter 186 - Entangled Again
Sitting in the passenger seat, Lin Huan yawned, and when he looked up, he caught sight of a figure standing at the entrance of the alley. I helplessly rubbed my temples.
Suddenly, I realized that when I first met Li Mi, I hadn’t yet brought Lin Huan over. So how did he know her?
I glanced over at Lin Huan in confusion and couldn’t help but ask, “You know her?”
“Of course I do! In the days you were away, she came by almost every day. I don’t know what’s going on with her. Now that you’re back, she hasn’t shown up… sigh…”
Lin Huan sighed heavily, and I was getting a bit irritated. How did Li Mi end up like this?
I thought I had made myself clear enough-what exactly did she want from me?
Over there, Li Mi was dressed in a spaghetti-strap dress, her hands clasped together as she kept staring in the direction of my house. When she saw my car pull out, a smile instantly appeared on her face, and she walked straight over.
“Boss, what should we do? It looks like this woman is really infatuated with you,” Lin Huan frowned, his tone slightly impatient.
I shot him a glance. It seemed that during my absence, Li Mi had come looking for me quite a bit, and Lin Huan was clearly fed up with it.
I shook my head helplessly and stepped on the gas, intending to rush past Li Mi as if I hadn’t seen her.
Usually, I could exchange a few words with her, but today… I simply didn’t have time to deal with her.
To my surprise, as my car sped past, Li Mi suddenly dashed forward and jumped onto the front of my car.
I was taken aback, cursing under my breath. Thankfully, I hadn’t skimped on money when I bought this car; the brakes were incredibly responsive. Otherwise, Li Mi would have already been a victim beneath my wheels.
“Brother Gu! Don’t leave! I have something to tell you!”
Li Mi, completely oblivious to my rising anger, held a broken high heel in her hand and pounded on the driver’s side window.
I took a deep breath, trying to suppress my frustration, and rolled down the window, asking coldly, “What do you want?”
Perhaps my tone was too harsh; her expression shifted slightly, but she quickly regained her smile, reaching her hands inside to prevent me from closing the window again.
I was increasingly annoyed, rolling my eyes. “What do you want? I’m busy and don’t have time to waste with you here.”
“Brother Gu, you have something to do today… why don’t I join you? I promise I won’t cause any trouble!”
Li Mi, saying this, moved directly to the back seat, trying to open the car door.
Lin Huan, sitting in the passenger seat, exclaimed and quickly pressed the button on the control panel. Li Mi, full of excitement, pulled on the door for quite a while, only to realize that it had been firmly locked from the inside.
I snorted coldly, and taking advantage of the moment, I rolled up the car window, ensuring everything was tightly shut before I stepped on the gas.
From the rearview mirror, I could see Li Mi holding her high heel, glaring angrily at the exhaust of my car. I suddenly felt a wave of sadness wash over me.
I knew exactly what she wanted.
I just couldn’t believe that the girl who once had a bit of cunning in her had transformed into this. Society truly is a great dye vat; I was glad I hadn’t become someone I despised.
As the car hit the elevated highway, Lin Huan suddenly asked sneakily, “Boss, was that Li Mi your old flame?”
I shot him a glance. “Asking about the boss’s personal life like that, do you want to forfeit next month’s paycheck?”
Lin Huan quickly raised his hands in surrender. After a few quiet minutes, he chirped again, “Boss, that Li Mi doesn’t seem like a good girl. Could it be that you got entangled with her during a… visit?”
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Despite not having many hobbies, this kid sure knew how to dig up gossip.
But what he said was somewhat true. Li Mi had latched onto me because I was looking for some fun.
I figured this explained why she believed she still held some allure over me; after all, I was the kind of person who frequented nightclubs.
However, this was also a lingering hope for many people like her. They always thought they could find one or two guys who would be devoted to them, regardless of their past lives and occupations.
Suddenly, I thought of Xu-Jie, the woman who had long vanished from my life, my first client.
I wondered how she was doing now.
Seeing that I was silent for a while, Lin Huan, driven by curiosity, leaned over the center cushion and mischievously asked, “Could it really be?”
“I think you’re ready to forfeit your paycheck for the latter half of the year.”
I didn’t want to continue this topic. Sure enough, talking about money was the quickest way to make Lin Huan quiet down.
By the time we arrived at Lin Huan’s apartment complex, it was nearly noon.
Since I had previously informed Uncle Lin, he was already waiting at the gate when we drove in.
I parked the car in the parking lot at the entrance of the complex. As soon as my foot hit the ground, the little fox rushed over, its tiny paws wrapping around my neck, the warmth from its little nose puffing against my face.
I chuckled and gently rubbed the little fox’s fluffy head.
In just a month, the little fox had gained more than three Jin1; it seemed Uncle Lin had been taking excellent care of her.
The moment Uncle Lin saw Lin Huan, he couldn’t help but widen his eyes, looking at his son as if he were an old rooster. I watched the two of them squabble like that, shaking my head as I held the little fox and walked toward the room.
At the dining table, I asked Uncle Lin if Jue Chi had said anything when he handed over the little fox.
Uncle Lin shook his head, saying that Jue Chi had been in such a rush that he hadn’t even had time to drink a glass of water; he looked quite anxious.
I couldn’t help but speculate that maybe Jue Chi had encountered a pressing matter. After finishing our meal, I took a life amulet out of my bag. It was the one I had made for the little fox previously.
According to Lin Huan, the little fox had made significant progress in her cultivation recently, and we could almost understand everything she said. That’s why I had brought the amulet along this time, intending to ask the little fox about Jue Chi.
I held the amulet in my hand, closing my eyes to feel its energy. It grew warm in my palm, indicating that the amulet had nearly fused with the little fox.
Uncle Lin sat on the couch opposite me, holding the little fox. I pondered for a moment before asking, “Little fox, did you notice anything unusual about Jue Chi while you were at Chan Guang Monastery?”
