Taboo Mage - Chapter 185 - Du Jun's Conclusion
In the hotel, I was hiding in the corner of my room, holding my phone tightly, attentively listening to the sounds coming from Du Jun’s room.
However, after a long time, there was no sound from my phone. I began to feel anxious, pacing back and forth at my door, wanting to check what was happening next door.
But then I thought, if I hurried over and disrupted the plan, wouldn’t that mean all my efforts would be wasted? I should just wait a little longer.
Suddenly, Zhou Qifang’s voice came through the phone, “What are you hiding there for? You haven’t said anything for a long time.”
Then I heard Du Jun’s voice, “I saw… I saw that thing…”
My hand holding the phone shook violently. Du Jun said he saw something… what exactly did he see?
I regretted that I couldn’t just rush into their room; my curiosity was almost overwhelming, but I had to hold it in.
On the phone, Du Jun kept repeating what he saw, which puzzled me. The infant spirit was only attached to the Buddha amulet, and to prevent any accidents that could lead to an uncontrollable situation, Zhou Qifang had even imposed an additional restriction on the amulet.
There was no way the infant spirit could appear before Du Jun…
I listened to the sounds coming from the phone; Zhou Qifang must have started to cast spells because I distinctly heard a series of preparation noises. He intentionally raised his voice, so I could clearly hear their every move.
“Alright, you just stay in that corner, hold this talisman in your hand, and don’t make a sound.”
Zhou Qifang’s voice was calm, showing no signs of panic. After all, he might have faced situations like this many times before.
I silently held my phone, listening to the activity. I could only hear Zhou Qifang instructing Du Jun to hide in the corner while he prepared everything according to the plan I had laid out for him.
Just when everything seemed to be going smoothly, a sudden light sound came from the phone. I felt anxious, unable to wait any longer, so I immediately opened the door and quietly stepped outside, hiding at the entrance of Du Jun’s room.
“Master Taka… what’s going on?” Du Jun’s voice came through the phone.
His voice was loud, and thankfully I had brought my headphones; otherwise, he would have definitely heard me just behind a thin door.
“It’s nothing; we’re just at the last step. We need to be careful.”
I heard Zhou Qifang’s voice coming through my headphones, and my heart sank; it was time for me to step in.
I heard Zhou Qifang chant, “We’re just at the final step… Gu Qingshu, hurry and come out!”
With his loud shout, I kicked open the door and stood at the entrance, seeing a swirl of dark energy in the room. The Buddha amulet floated in mid-air, while Du Jun crouched at the foot of the bed, looking astonished at my sudden appearance.
Zhou Qifang, standing facing the door with hands forming a dharma seal, shouted at me, “What are you standing there for? Hurry up and chant the incantation!”
My mind buzzed, and I hesitated no longer. I quickly formed the dharma seal I had practiced hundreds of times in my mind. When I opened my eyes, the incantation automatically sprang from my thoughts like letters.
As I recited the incantation, the Buddha amulet, which had been floating in the air, began to spin rapidly as if responding to my call.
Du Jun stood frozen in place across from me, mouth agape, watching as the dark energy from the amulet enveloped the entire room.
Suddenly, the amulet stopped spinning, and ripples appeared on its surface. As the ripples expanded from the center, they grew larger and larger. Just as the edge of the ripples reached the amulet’s border, a small hand suddenly emerged from within.
I watched as that hand emerged from the amulet, followed by a pudgy arm, a body, and finally, a cyan-purple head.
It lifted its head and curiously surveyed the room, and when I saw its eyes, I couldn’t help but step back in fear.
Those eyes had no pupils, only swirling black energy filled the sockets, and it stretched its same cyan-purple right hand toward Du Jun.
“No… no…”
As if just realizing the danger, Du Jun rolled off the bed and dashed toward Zhou Qifang, grabbing his arm desperately.
Zhou Qifang shot him a disgusted glance and kicked him roughly in the thigh. Du Jun fell to the ground, trembling uncontrollably.
I snorted, watching Du Jun ensnared by the infant spirit, feeling not an ounce of pity in my heart.
Zhou Qifang brushed off the dust from his clothes and coldly observed as Du Jun rolled on the ground, the dark energy gradually trapping him.
“Let’s go; it’s finally over,” Zhou Qifang said as he walked toward me, his voice low.
I nodded, turned, and walked out. Du Jun’s anguished cries faded completely from my ears after I shut the door with a heavy thud.
It felt like I had completed a major ritual. Zhou Qifang placed his right hand over his left chest, muttering something under his breath. After a while, he lowered his hand and walked forward.
By the time I returned home, it was already the third night.
I had spent two days resting at home to regain my strength. During that time, Chi Rui hadn’t shown up again; he just called to say there were some serious issues at home, and he might be staying in Northeast China for a while.
As for Jue Chi…
The last I heard from Uncle Lin was that after Jue Chi left the little fox in his care, he disappeared. Calculating the time, it had already been more than a week since Jue Chi last appeared at Uncle Lin’s place.
Jue Chi wasn’t a wandering monk. Besides, he was the only one at Chan Guang Monastery. There had been instances before when he had to travel far, but never like this-with such a long absence without a word or a call.
For some reason, whenever I thought about Jue Chi, a wave of unease washed over me, as if something was about to happen.
But he was Jue Chi…
His abilities far surpassed mine. What kind of trouble could he possibly be in?
Zhou Qifang continued as usual, every day hugging the ancestral tablet of my family. I couldn’t tell if he was genuinely trying to atone for his father and grandfather or if he was just putting on a show for me.
On the third day after returning home, I decided to pay Uncle Lin a visit.
Early in the morning, I called for Lin Huan, and without waiting for him to finish washing up, I dragged him out the door.
As soon as the car turned out of the alley, I encountered someone I really didn’t want to see at that moment.
“Hey, isn’t that Li Mi?”
