Taboo Mage - Chapter 183 - Life for a Life
Du Jun’s reasoning was that Zhou Qifang is my rival?
While it’s true that the enemy of my enemy is my friend, how confident does he have to be to think that Zhou Qifang would save him for such a nonsensical reason?
“Alright, I can’t talk right now. If you have something to discuss, just call my assistant,” Zhou Qifang said before hanging up.
I snorted and got up from the rattan chair. “That bastard actually dared to think about you.”
“You should be thankful that he didn’t find out about our relationship back then,” Zhou Qifang said, shaking his head as he threw his phone onto the bed.
I looked at him in confusion, a bit unclear about what he meant.
“Didn’t you say that the infant spirit in the Buddha amulet needs a life for a life to reincarnate? It requires someone with certain abilities to control that infant spirit. Are you planning to take action yourself?”
Zhou Qifang’s question was exactly what worried me. I stood there for a moment before I had to admit that I absolutely couldn’t appear in front of Du Jun right now.
“He won’t believe that you would help him lift the so-called curse. Who would be so merciful? Even if you were willing, he certainly wouldn’t buy it. And by that time, he might drag you down with him.”
“I know,” I nodded. “So what are you planning to do?”
“I came here this time specifically to help you; otherwise, why would I make this trip myself?” Zhou Qifang said with a smile. It was clear what he meant-this time he intended to take matters into his own hands and arrange for the infant spirit in the Buddha amulet to claim a life for a life.
Then Zhou Qifang made several more calls, speaking rapidly in Thai. Though I couldn’t understand the language, his expression suggested that everything was going smoothly.
After hanging up, Zhou Qifang informed me that he had arranged for people in Bangkok. This time, not only would Du Jun face a life for a life, but he would also lose all his money.
I didn’t want to get involved in those details; I just wanted to know the final outcome.
Early the next morning, Zhou Qifang received a call from Bangkok. The message was that Du Jun had arrived in Bangkok to seek out Master Taka, but Taka’s assistant told Du Jun that Master Taka was unwilling to see him because he had broken his promise.
Du Jun had spent a large sum of money to buy his life from Taka, and what surprised me even more was that the news about Du Jun’s comeback had completely vanished from the internet overnight.
I couldn’t help but admire Du Jun’s capabilities. To thrive so successfully in the entertainment industry, beyond Zhou Qifang’s blessings from the Buddha amulet, his silver tongue and ability to read people also played a significant role.
With a large sum of money at stake, Master Taka’s assistant finally agreed to plead Du Jun’s case.
Ecstatic, Du Jun spent another night in Bangkok, but the next day, the assistant informed him that Master Taka had flown to Beijing to create Buddha amulets for someone involved in high-level governance.
That afternoon, Du Jun took a flight back, and by the time we received the news, Zhou Qifang had already booked another five-star hotel. We quickly made our way there.
We had barely settled into our newly changed hotel when the front desk called to inform us that the retired superstar Du Jun was there to see a Mr. Taka.
I snorted; let him come and meet whoever he wanted-what’s with the pretentiousness?
Zhou Qifang laughed at me, explaining that it was standard procedure at a five-star hotel; no matter who it was, guests had to personally confirm their visitors before letting them in.
I rolled my eyes. I was already annoyed with Du Jun; I could have easily made a move against him. I didn’t care about hotel rules or his supposed status.
After Zhou Qifang confirmed with the front desk, he went down to meet Du Jun himself.
Left alone with nothing to do, I asked Zhou Qifang to keep the phone on so I could listen in on the despicable things that bastard might say to save his own worthless life.
The call remained active, and I heard Zhou Qifang settle into a seat. Soon enough, Du Jun’s voice came through.
“Master Taka, you… you have to save me!”
Hearing that familiar plea, I couldn’t help but let out a cold chuckle. This guy truly never changed his script, no matter how many years went by. If I guessed correctly, he was probably down on his knees desperately begging Zhou Qifang right now.
“Why don’t you explain what’s going on?” Zhou Qifang’s voice sounded indifferent. Even with a pile of money involved, he didn’t show much warmth towards a scoundrel like Du Jun.
Du Jun’s voice came through the phone, filled with grievance and misery.
“Master Taka! You have to save me! It was that Gu Qingshu! He’s the one trying to harm me! We were driving together, and he fell into the river while trying to save me. I always appreciated his kindness, and who would have thought he would believe I was trying to kill him on purpose? I’m innocent!”
“Are you saying that Gu Qingshu didn’t drown?”
Listening to this, I almost burst out laughing. Zhou Qifang had surprisingly learned to act rather well.
“He’s not dead! He wants to kill me now!”
“Enough with the nonsense. What happened?”
“Gu Qingshu did something to me! I dream about a little child every night. He calls me ‘Daddy’ and asks me why I want to hurt him… and! That child wants me to pay with my life!”
“A child?”
“Yes! A bloody, mangled child! He crawls towards me, demanding that I pay with my life! I don’t know him! I really don’t know him!”
By the end of his rambling, Du Jun started to cry.
I felt nauseated. This man was utterly shameless; if I didn’t keep reminding myself to stay calm, I would have charged downstairs and shoved him into the toilet!
What a despicable little man! Unless I eliminated him, the anger in my heart would never dissipate!
Zhou Qifang continued, “How do you know it’s a curse? Isn’t Gu Qingshu an expert in life amulets?”
“I consulted some people! I even saw several practitioners, and they all said I was cursed!”
I was astonished. Zhou Qifang’s skills were impressive; not only did he keep the infant spirit hidden within the Buddha amulet, but he also managed to make people believe that Du Jun was cursed!
I didn’t pay much attention to the rest of the conversation. It was just Du Jun crying and begging Zhou Qifang to save him while splashing a few buckets of dirt onto my name in the process.
Zhou Qifang demonstrated some decent acting skills, skillfully controlling the pace of the conversation.
The two of them talked for over an hour before it ended. Finally, Zhou Qifang told Du Jun to go back and wait, as he needed to prepare some things.
