Taboo Mage - Chapter 180 - Getting Entangled
When he saw me, he smiled and said, “I saw that Li Mi this morning. She looks pretty good without her makeup.”
“You actually care about how that young girl looks?” I said, holding my thermos, unable to suppress a cough.
Zhou Qifang didn’t reply; he just smiled and walked upstairs.
He didn’t come down for the rest of the day, and I was too busy to worry about what he was up to. I had my own matters to attend to.
Lin Huan had taken Chi Rui to the airport and also made a quick trip to his hometown to visit Uncle Lin.
When he came back, I was sitting at my computer, searching for information about Du Jun. It wasn’t that I was being petty; anyone would find it intolerable to let someone who tried to kill them continue living freely.
As I looked up, I noticed Lin Huan had a pale expression on his face. I recalled Jue Chi mentioning that he had sent the little fox back to the Lin Family to stay for a few days. It seemed like Lin Huan had just run into him.
“Come here and let me see what Du Jun has been up to lately,” I beckoned Lin Huan to me.
Lin Huan looked reluctant, but he scooted closer and took my laptop. “About Du Jun, when you were gone, I specifically went to see him. But Du Jun is still sticking to his old story, insisting that you fell into the water.”
I huffed in annoyance. “He must be afraid of getting caught for his misdeeds.”
“Enough, you’re alive and well now, so I think you should let it go,” he said.
Deep down, Lin Huan was still on Du Jun’s side; after all, he was a lifelong idol, and how could I, a boss who exploited his remaining energy, compete with that?
“If you keep talking nonsense, pack your things and get out!” I gritted my teeth and rolled my eyes at him.
This time, I had to take care of Du Jun properly!
With that thought in mind, I had Lin Huan check the stock in the warehouse before heading upstairs to find Zhou Qifang.
Zhou Qifang was lying on his bed, seemingly up to no good. As soon as I pushed the door open, he sat up with an angry look on his face, likely caught in the act.
I wasn’t planning to call him out on it; I just pulled up a chair and said, “Du Jun has made a comeback in the entertainment industry.”
Sure enough, as soon as I finished speaking, Zhou Qifang narrowed his eyes. “He’s got some nerve.”
“I think he guessed that you might have gone back to Thailand, which is why he dared to blatantly break his promise,” I said, crossing my legs and watching Zhou Qifang’s face grow increasingly grim. Inside, I couldn’t help but feel pleased.
Zhou Qifang sat up on the bed, raised an eyebrow, and asked, “What do you have in mind?”
I blinked. Was my intention really that obvious?
“You have a personal vendetta against Du Jun, while my conflict with him is just verbal.” Zhou Qifang was as clear-headed as ever, running his mouth off.
I outlined my plan briefly, and surprisingly, Zhou Qifang, in a good mood today, didn’t interrupt me. Once I finished, he nodded in rare agreement.
Taking advantage of his approval while it lasted, I immediately purchased tickets to Beijing for that afternoon.
But based on my understanding of Zhou Qifang, I knew he would not let Du Jun go easily.
I couldn’t step in personally to deal with him because I had to avoid a backlash, but Zhou Qifang didn’t have that problem! Besides, if I faced any backlash, it would be due to their Zhou Family’s actions!
Thinking this way, I felt a lot more at ease.
As usual, I left Lin Huan to manage the store while Zhou Qifang and I headed straight to the airport after lunch. While sitting in the waiting area, I suddenly realized that my life had turned into a whirlwind of travel.
I wondered when this kind of life would come to an end…
With over two hours until boarding, I was contemplating whether to find a place in the airport to take a nap when Zhou Qifang suddenly grabbed my arm, his gaze directed off to the side.
I followed his line of sight and, upon seeing the figure approaching, my head felt like it was buzzing, my temples throbbing.
It was Li Mi!
Today, she wore a tight-fitting mini dress, her hair pulled back, looking much more lively than last night-though her makeup was still as heavy as ever.
Li Mi, in her high heels, scanned the waiting area. When she spotted me, her face lit up with surprise, and she strode towards me with purpose.
I glanced around and immediately spotted the men’s restroom. Without a second thought, I dashed toward it, nearly fleeing inside.
The sound of her high heels clattering on the floor echoed behind me. I shook my head, mentally berating myself for ever getting involved with her. Now, she was back, and somehow, she was entangled in my life again.
I never seriously considered being with her; the thought barely had a chance to sprout before I snuffed it out in its infancy. Now, the idea was even more unthinkable.
It wasn’t that I looked down on her, but whenever I thought about having spent money on someone who used to be a hostess, I felt like I was standing under an expansive African savanna, fearing I’d be crushed at any moment.
I don’t know how long I stayed in the restroom, but it was only when the boarding announcement came over the speakers that I dared to step out.
To my dismay, I found Li Mi blocking the boarding gate, so there was no way I could slip past her now.
Seeing Zhou Qifang looking on with a smirk, I walked with an incredibly heavy heart toward the gate.
Li Mi crossed her arms and leaned against the glass by the boarding gate. When she saw me approaching, a smile spread across her face as she playfully asked, “Brother Gu, am I really that ugly? Why do you run away whenever you see me?”
I shook my head, “What are you talking about? Were you standing here this whole time? I didn’t even notice.”
Although everyone knew the truth, Li Mi didn’t bring it up directly. Instead, her expression suddenly dropped, and she said in a pitiful tone, “Brother Gu, you’re leaving without telling me?”
“Ah, it’s not like I’m moving-just a business trip, nothing more,” I replied, feeling a headache coming on. The airport staff had already glanced our way several times.
“A business trip? Where are you going?” Li Mi’s interest piqued, and she grabbed my arm to stop me from leaving, her curiosity evident.
I felt awkward and didn’t know how to respond, sending a silent plea to Zhou Qifang with my eyes. “Going to Beijing, just for a few days,” I managed.
“Beijing? I’ve never been there! Take me with you, okay?” Li Mi’s eyes sparkled with excitement, and I felt my headache worsen.
