Supreme Rogue Play in Another World - Chapter 49 - The Arrogant Transfer Student
Forty-eight hours away from Xinyuan City lies Huagang City, a small county-level city half the size of Xinyuan City. The city primarily thrives on heavy industry, with two massive coal pits at the core of its economy.
There’s an old saying: “Poor mountains and harsh waters breed tricky people.” The city is nationally infamous for its poor security and serves as a prime hideout for criminals from various places, surrounded by deep mountains on all sides.
The city consists of only one district, centered around a few streets near the train station. Among these, the most notable is the Mingyue Community, the most expensive residential area in the city and home to Huagang City’s wealthy-either big bosses or government officials. Ordinary citizens can only dream of living there.
Adjacent to this community lies the only university in town, Huagang University. Though not prestigious, it’s the go-to option for local kids who can’t afford to attend more renowned universities.
The sophomore class of the Chinese Department at Huagang University is the only one in its grade and is notorious for being the most chaotic and troublesome, much to the president’s dismay.
Early one morning, the class advisor entered the classroom with a reluctant face, his gaze falling on the students he despised, who were smoking and playing cards. His frown remained tightly knit: “Quiet down, I have an announcement to make!”
Despite the students not returning to their seats, the noise level had significantly reduced, a testament to the class advisor’s authority.
“Today, we have a new student joining our class, a transfer from another city!” He tapped on the desk, then called out, “Run Tiancheng, come in!”
The classroom door swung open and Run Tiancheng entered, carrying a shoulder bag.
Murmurs filled the room, as almost ninety-nine percent of the students were from Huagang City itself. It was rare to have a transfer student from outside, as who would willingly move to such a destitute place for school?
Run Tiancheng didn’t do the typical, dull self-introduction like other well-behaved students. Instead, he glanced at the teacher and asked, “Where should I sit?”
The teacher, far from being annoyed by Run’s brusque tone, smiled brightly and pointed to a seat by the window, “You can sit there for now. If it’s uncomfortable, you can ask me to change it later!” The teacher had been informed in advance that Run Tiancheng was a transfer student from Yuhua University in Xinyuan City, with the highest grades in his school, and his transfer was personally handled by the leadership of the Xinyuan City Education Commission, which certainly indicated his significant background.
“By the way, Run Tiancheng, where do you live? I’d like to make a home visit this evening!” the teacher suddenly asked. Thinking that Run wasn’t ordinary, his parents must be remarkable people too. Perhaps by getting close to them, the teacher could find a way out of his tiresome job and secure a position in a big city. At this thought, a droplet of saliva hung at the corner of his mouth.
“Mingyue Community, Unit 1, Fifth Floor, Right Door. But you don’t need to come, I don’t have any family, just me,” Run Tiancheng said lazily, lounging in his chair.
“Oh? No family? Then, where are your parents? You came to Huagang City to study by yourself? You live alone in Mingyue Community?” The teacher was stunned and blurted out a barrage of questions. He knew that those who lived in Mingyue Community were well-off, but how could a student live there without any family?
“I said I have none, so stop asking. Are we going to have class or not?” Run Tiancheng glared at the teacher impatiently. That one glare, fierce enough to make even the crime boss of Xinyuan City weak at the knees, was more than a mere teacher could bear. Frightened, the teacher almost collapsed but managed to steady himself on the desk, deciding not to pursue the matter any further. He knew this new transfer student was not only from a daunting background but was himself even more formidable.
“Wow, pretty arrogant, huh!” muttered a slouching fellow sitting behind Run Tiancheng.
“He has the right to be arrogant, living in the prime floors of Mingyue Community. If it were me, I’d be arrogant too!” another ruffian student chimed in while picking his teeth with a toothpick and chuckling.
Run Tiancheng ignored these students’ comments and simply dropped his head down, resting it on the desk to take a nap.
A full day of tedious classroom life finally came to an end. On his very first day at the school, Run Tiancheng quickly became known as a problematic student in the eyes of his teachers. He spent the morning napping on his desk and the afternoon engrossed in a martial arts novel, which left the teachers hesitant to intervene, especially since he was designated as a gifted student from above.
After school, backpack swaying, Run Tiancheng decided to grab a bite at a small diner across from the school. He pulled out a red bill from his pocket and headed for the diner.
Behind him, three classmates caught up. One of them, who sat behind him and had called him arrogant, clapped Run Tiancheng on the shoulder and said, “Brother, can we step aside and have a word?”
“Sorry, I don’t have time!” Run Tiancheng glanced coldly at him and shrugged off his hand, continuing on his way.
“Come on, we really need to talk to you about something. It’ll just take a minute, no, half a minute!” The guy persisted, following behind Run Tiancheng.
“You really want this, don’t you?” Run Tiancheng stopped, raised the money in his hand, and asked.
With a sneer, another guy stepped forward from behind, reaching for the bill, “Since you know, just comply. Considering we’re classmates, how about we leave you some for dinner?”
“Sorry, no deal!” What kind of person was Run Tiancheng? The student couldn’t even touch the bill, let alone grab it. He lunged and almost fell over.
“Brat, don’t push your luck. Hand it over nice and easy, or you’ll regret it!” The first guy got desperate and grabbed Run Tiancheng by the collar.
“What a headache. Why do I always run into this kind of trouble?” Run Tiancheng sighed. Suddenly, he pointed to a patrolling officer not far away and said, “How about this? Ask him, and if he agrees, I’ll give it to you!”
The three guys glanced at the officer, then at each other, before fiercely warning Run Tiancheng, “You think you’re so great because you live in Mingyue Community, but remember, this is Huagang City. You’ll have tough days ahead!” They stormed off, fuming.
Run Tiancheng shrugged. He didn’t care about such petty characters. However, the root cause of all this mess was Zhou Jiang and his son!
