Supreme Rogue Play in Another World - Chapter 48 - Farewell, Xinyuan City
Three days later, Zhou Cang returned to Yuhua University. Run Tiancheng had already explained the whole situation to the Tiancheng Gang, and the misunderstanding about Zhou Cang was resolved. Naturally, everyone was back to being good brothers as before.
However, things were different now. Zhou Cang’s identity had been fully exposed, and he no longer needed to pretend to be a student attending classes at the school. This left the members of the Tiancheng Gang feeling somewhat nostalgic.
A week later, the Xinyuan Higher People’s Court officially accepted the case of Ge Long. The defendant, Ge Long, was involved in charges of engaging in organized criminal activities, murder, drug trafficking, illegal possession of firearms, causing bodily harm, bribery, and was sentenced to death, to be executed immediately. Sun Hai and Scarface Four, for their involvement in organized crime, murder, intentional bodily harm, and drug trafficking, were sentenced to death with a suspended execution of three months.
The criminal Ge Fei, charged with causing bodily harm, robbery, and other serious offenses with significant social danger, was sentenced to life imprisonment. The former municipal committee secretary, Ge Yuntian, for protecting his son Ge Long’s illegal activities and severely tarnishing the image of public servants, was stripped of his political rights, expelled from the party, and sentenced to three years and six months in prison.
Such judgments were truly satisfying to the public. During the trial, Run Tiancheng and other core members of the Tiancheng Gang were present, serving as powerful witnesses.
As for the incident where Run Tiancheng caused disability to Ge Long and others, it was justified as self-defense, resulting in an acquittal, and he was honored with the title of Best Citizen.
“The punishment is too lenient! Hmph, pity there wasn’t enough evidence to charge him more severely!” Zhou Jiang, who came back from out of town just to attend the trial, seemed dissatisfied with the judgment.
Nonetheless, Zhou Cang felt a weight lifted off his shoulders. Walking out of the court alongside Run Tiancheng, it seemed Xinyuan City was about to embrace a new dawn.
As for Wei-Ge and other school leaders, they were sentenced to several years in prison for charges including drug trafficking, left to reflect on their actions behind bars. The most unfortunate was Mr. Jiang, the former director of the municipal bureau, who ended up being a victim in this whole affair. He wrote a resignation letter and returned to his rural hometown to farm.
In less than a week, Zhou Cang officially took office. As the saying goes, a new broom sweeps clean, and he embarked on a vigorous campaign to eliminate all of Ge Long’s remaining henchmen, eradicating the remaining criminal elements in Xinyuan City. Numerous entertainment venues, bath centers, and karaoke bars were shut down, and all school gang organizations, including the Tiancheng Gang he had founded, were disbanded.
A new municipal committee secretary was appointed, transferred from the province. This just and honest veteran party member also tackled the corruption from within the government, severely punishing all corrupt officials in Xinyuan City. As Zhou Cang had said, the dark clouds hanging over Xinyuan City had dissolved, ushering in a new, spotless sky, perhaps realizing his vision of an ideal world.
After the Tiancheng Gang disbanded, the students at Yuhua University still called Run Tiancheng by his nickname, Cheng-Ge. He didn’t mind and let them call him whatever they pleased. After taking care of Ouyang Jing’s affairs with her parents, he spent his days on the school rooftop, smoking one cigarette after another. He couldn’t bring himself to return to the classroom because Ouyang Jing’s empty seat was a constant reminder of his pain.
As the temperature gradually dropped, delicate snowflakes began to fall. Winter had arrived. Run Tiancheng walked along the stone path in the park, recalling how just three months ago, Ouyang Jing would stroll here by his side. The scenery remained unchanged, but the person he cherished was gone.
Eventually, he made up his mind and went to the real estate office to complete the paperwork, selling the property his grandmother had left for him, which had always been his home. He returned to the school to announce his decision.
“What? Boss, did I hear that right? You’re leaving Xinyuan City?” Third Zhuang was the first to jump up. His respect for Run Tiancheng had never wavered, considering him the most admirable person.
“No, I just can’t let go… Maybe a change of place will help,” Run Tiancheng, looking worn out over the past few months, replied.
“Tiancheng, if you leave, what will I do if someone bullies me?” Glasses Shorty clung to Run Tiancheng’s arm, reluctant to let him go.
“Hehe, with Third Zhuang around, what’s there to worry about? Besides, Young Master Cang is the new boss of the establishment in Xinyuan City, and everyone knows you’re his close brother. I doubt anyone would dare to mess with a tiger!” Run Tiancheng patted Glasses Shorty’s head. “I’m going far away. I don’t know where yet. I’ve already bought a train ticket, and I’ll get off wherever it feels right. Today is Monday, and I’m leaving this weekend.”
Once Run Tiancheng had made up his mind, nothing could change it, and everyone knew that. So, they planned a farewell party for him over the weekend.
On the day of the farewell party, Zhou Cang and his father were present and handed Run Tiancheng a paper package, instructing him to open it only after leaving Xinyuan City. Run Tiancheng accepted it with a smile and boarded the train to Xizhou.
As the train slowly pulled away, all of Run Tiancheng’s friends tearfully bid him farewell. Seeing everyone like this filled his heart with mixed emotions. He believed that one day he would return to be with these good brothers once again…
