- Chapter 39 - A Solo Venture into the Dragon's Lair
Sun Hai wasn’t at home, and Run Tiancheng, trusting his instincts, thought the same. Hence, he went straight to the second place he could find him: Scarface Four’s Speeding Disco.
Such places definitely wouldn’t be open during the day, and Run Tiancheng had visited similar discos in the daytime before. However, in terms of scale and intensity, they were far inferior to this Speeding Disco.
Sun Hai was currently playing a game of mahjong with Scarface Four and two other underworld figures. Mahjong had become Sun Hai’s recent obsession, and Scarface Four also enjoyed it. Ever since Scarface Four began working for Ge Long, the two had found common ground, often inviting friends from other cities in the underworld to this disco to play mahjong, spending entire days and nights playing dozens of rounds.
Run Tiancheng observed from a distance near the disco for a while. There were always four security guards at the entrance, changing shifts every thirty minutes. This time, he didn’t plan to rush in recklessly as he had before; after all, he was about to face armed men. Although he wasn’t afraid of dealing with them, he wasn’t confident about taking a bullet and getting away unharmed. Moreover, it was said that both Sun Hai and Scarface Four were no pushovers, with cunning and ruthless tactics. Rushing in headfirst might not be the best idea for him.
With this in mind, Run Tiancheng patiently waited. After another half hour passed, the moment the four security guards changed shifts was when they were at their most relaxed. Run Tiancheng slipped into the disco at a speed unimaginable to the average person, quickly finding a corner to hide in.
Inside, as he suspected, it was pitch dark, with only the faint green glow from the emergency exit lights aiding his movement. However, the challenge was that the disco was too large; he couldn’t possibly search each private room one by one for Sun Hai.
Just then, two of Sun Hai’s henchmen walked by, complaining about how unreasonable the henchmen of one of the underworld figures playing cards were, not even allowing them to check out a new model of handgun they had brought.
Run Tiancheng thought for a moment and decided to wait a bit longer to gather more information. It didn’t take long for him to understand: there were four groups of henchmen here. One group was with Sun Hai, another with Scarface Four, and the other two groups were from neighboring cities. Of the four groups, only Sun Hai’s and Scarface Four’s henchmen were familiar with each other; the rest didn’t know one another at all.
Run Tiancheng slipped out stealthily and observed for quite a while before figuring out how to distinguish the four groups of people by their unified clothing. Sun Hai’s men all wore black attire, appearing more formal, while Scarface Four’s men mostly wore casual clothing and jeans. The other two groups were more random, with some in jackets and others in trench coats.
Taking advantage of the opportunity when an out-of-town henchman stepped out for a smoke, Run Tiancheng knocked him out from behind and quickly changed into his clothes. The two were of similar build, which was a relief to Run Tiancheng.
“Back already? It’ll be your shift soon, and we can go grab some lunch,” said one of Sun Hai’s men who was on duty at the door, not realizing the actual swap as Run Tiancheng walked back with his head down.
“Yeah!” Run Tiancheng casually responded and walked into the disco bar. With fifteen minutes left before the shift change, he moved beside one of Scarface Four’s henchmen and started a casual conversation, looking around to make sure no one else was nearby.
It turned out that these two bosses from another city were also here for the first time. They reportedly had some business dealings with Scarface Four, who had specially prepared private room 201 for them today. This room was relatively large, had just been renovated, and was designed by a renowned designer, allowing for some additional showing off.
Room 201, huh?
Run Tiancheng excused himself to use the restroom and headed towards the private room area.
Upon entering the disco bar, there was a large hall and a bar counter. Beyond that lay a wide dance floor, and behind it, a narrow corridor led to the private room area. This layout was a common design flaw in discos, meant to provide the wealthy looking for a place to take drugs or engage in affairs with a more discreet environment.
“I won! Hahaha, pay up, pay up!” From a distance, Run Tiancheng could hear the voices coming from private room 201. He gently knocked on the door.
“Who is it?” came a voice from inside.
“Uh, I have something for the bosses, said to be delivered to Sun-Ge specifically,” Run Tiancheng said, deliberately lowering his voice.
“Hmm? Something for me? What is it?” The door opened to reveal Sun Hai.
“This!” Run Tiancheng suddenly raised his head and swung his fist as fast as lightning into Sun Hai’s stomach. Then he quickly wrapped his arm around Sun Hai’s neck, his hand shifting to a claw form to grip his throat.
“You…” Sun Hai was hit hard, and was about to clutch his stomach and crouch down when a strong force pulled him up, easily controlling his neck.
“Who are you? Who brought him here? Let go of Sun-Ge!” Scarface Four slammed the table and stood up, staring at Run Tiancheng for a moment before shifting his gaze to the two people beside him.
“He’s not with us!” The two bosses beside him, not ordinary characters, immediately reached for their waists in alert.
Run Tiancheng sneered coldly, closing the door of the private room behind him. The soundproofing design here was quite remarkable, featuring two layers of doors. The first layer was typical, but the second one was purely for soundproofing. Once the second door was closed, no matter how chaotic it got inside, those outside would hear nothing.
“If any of you dare to draw a gun, I can’t promise my hand won’t start shaking from fear…” Run Tiancheng said, grabbing a Mahjong tile from the table with his free hand. With just a subtle flick of his fingers, the ivory Mahjong tile crumbled into dust.
This demonstration indeed startled the group. After disarming them, Run Tiancheng showcased another trick, snapping a handgun in half with one hand, as if it were made of tofu. Only then did he release Sun Hai and casually sat down on a chair.
“Who… who on earth are you? I don’t think I’ve ever met you?” Sun Hai asked painfully, clutching both his neck and stomach.
“No, we haven’t met. Not only have you never seen me, but this is also my first time meeting you,” Run Tiancheng replied calmly.
“Then what do you want? Money? You can take all the money on this table! We shouldn’t have any grudges between us, right?” Sun Hai tried to reason. Despite his own skills, being subdued so quickly by his opponent made him wary.
Run Tiancheng glanced at the thick stacks of cash on the table and chuckled, “That’s quite a bit of money; you guys must be playing big. But sorry, I’m not interested!”
“Hahaha, no one would be uninterested in money. If you think it’s too little, I can write you a check right now. Name your price!” Sun Hai was convinced that the opponent was here for money, thinking he could placate him with cash and have his men deal with him once he left.
“No need, your money is too dirty, I’m afraid to spend it lest I get hand cancer!” Run Tiancheng shook his head and said, “Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Run Tiancheng, the one you’re trying to deal with!”
