Supreme Rogue Play in Another World - Chapter 34 - The Meeting
In a small quadrangle dwelling in the northern part of Xinyuan City, a group of men in black suits stood orderly at the entrance.
Inside one of the rooms in the quadrangle dwelling, an elder in his sixties sat upright in an armchair, slowly savoring the fragrant tea in a blue and white porcelain cup.
“Elder Xin, you must stand up for me!” A young man in his thirties paced back and forth with his hands behind his back, suddenly stopping to plead with the elder.
“Young man, don’t panic. The world is like this; when someone is stronger than you, they’ll try to swallow you up, nothing surprising about it,” the elder said as he slowly placed his teacup down and sighed. “Though it is a bit strange. The Ge Family’s kid shouldn’t be so quick to make a move, should he?”
“Why wouldn’t he? Old master, of the twelve schools under my command, most have been taken by him, and I hear his methods are ruthless and arrogant. Isn’t this a clear challenge to you?” The young man expressed his grievance.
“Hmm… I guess I need to invite him out for tea, then. If he’s really trying to break the stalemate…” The elder’s eyes suddenly grew sharp, a fierce glint appearing within them. “Then this old man isn’t easy to bully either!”
At that moment, Zhou Cang was drinking in a bar he managed, with an hour left before three in the afternoon, the time he’d prepare to target his next endeavor.
Boss Liang and three others sat around him. After the past few days, they had grown to both respect and fear Zhou Cang, wholeheartedly becoming his henchmen.
Run Tiancheng, having received some inside information, arrived at the bar entrance. Two men blocked his way: “Sorry, sir, the bar isn’t open yet. Please come back after 6 PM.”
Run Tiancheng did not force his way in but instead calmly said, “Tell Zhou Cang, Run Tiancheng wants to see him.”
One of the men ran inside to report, returning shortly after to say, “You can go in. Boss Zhou is waiting for you in private room number two.”
“Boss Zhou?” Run Tiancheng smirked slightly and walked into the bar. The bar wasn’t large, only consisting of a main hall and three private rooms. The hall itself was just a bar counter, a television, and four tables, yet such a bar could rake in tens of thousands in a single night.
Pushing open the door to the private room, Run Tiancheng leisurely walked in. “Long time no see!”
“What are you doing here?” Wei-Ge immediately stood up warily, reaching inside his jacket.
Zhou Cang blocked Wei-Ge and smiled at Run Tiancheng. “I knew you would come looking for me!”
Run Tiancheng nodded, glancing at Wei-Ge and the others. “Useless dogs, get out. It’s not your place to hear what I have to say.”
“What did you say?” The four men slammed the table in unison. Zhou Cang gave them a look, and only then did they storm out of the room, frustrated.
“Sit down. Want something to drink? Order anything; I’m in charge here!” Zhou Cang took on the air of a host.
Run Tiancheng unceremoniously plopped down on the sofa. “I don’t need anything; I can’t afford it. You know why I’m here, right?”
Zhou Cang nodded with a smile, lit a cigarette, and started smoking. “Don’t worry, I won’t touch Yuhua University. While I might not care about others, I’ll definitely respect Cheng-Ge’s wishes.”
“I’m truly honored!” Run Tiancheng shrugged and lowered his voice. “Are you doing this on purpose, or do you have a hidden trouble?”
“What hidden trouble?” Zhou Cang crossed his legs, took a deep drag on his cigarette, then blew a few smoke rings. Watching the rings float up and dissipate, he continued, “I couldn’t be happier right now. I have power, I’m not lacking money, and everyone fears me. This is the life I truly desire, a feeling of dominance you wouldn’t understand!”
Run Tiancheng nodded and stood up. “I would never understand, not now, not ever. But don’t forget, you’re not the dominant one; you’re just a dog by the dominant one’s side. The only difference is that you get fed slightly better than the other dogs! Farewell!”
Instead of getting angry at these words, Zhou Cang burst into laughter, slightly nodded, then lazily leaned back on the sofa. “No need to see you out! Feel free to come by often and put it on my tab!”
Run Tiancheng walked out of the bar without looking back. Not far away, Glasses Shorty and Ouyang Jing, who had been waiting, hurried over to ask, “How did it go? What did you discuss? How was it?”
Run Tiancheng didn’t answer those questions. He simply looked up and sighed. “I saw… his heart bleeding…”
Meanwhile, a similar conversation was taking place elsewhere, though of a completely different nature.
In the VIP private room of Dihao Restaurant, a table full of exquisite dishes was being laid out by the servers, a feast that would take an average person years of hard work to afford.
Xin Weng sat at the head of the table, with the young man who had previously confided in him seated at his side.
Soon, the door to the private room opened, and Ge Long entered with a man dressed in white. As soon as he walked in, Ge Long beamed, cupping his hands respectfully. “Ah, Elder Xin, you’re too generous. This is truly overwhelming; I’m not worthy!”
Elder Xin rose to reciprocate the gesture, his smile not reaching his eyes. “Mr. Ge, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’ve missed you so much that I couldn’t resist inviting you out for a chat. In all of Xinyuan City, only you are worthy of such an offer!”
“Elder Xin is too kind! When I was just a little kid, Xin Weng was already a prominent figure in Xinyuan City. I still have much to learn from you!” Ge Long replied sycophantically as he took his seat as a guest, motioning for the man in white to sit beside him.
“Ah, the student surpasses the master! I hear you’re planning to take over your father’s position?” Elder Xin remarked as he poured Ge Long a drink.
“Oh? Xin Weng, your sources are quite accurate. That’s indeed my intention,” Ge Long began to calculate inwardly, wondering what the old fox had up his sleeve this time.
“That explains it. Expanding your strength for easier management, I see!” Elder Xin said as he raised his glass.
“Expanding my strength? I’m afraid I don’t quite understand your meaning, Mr. Xin,” Ge Long was genuinely puzzled.
“Playing dumb with me, are you, young man? Are you really going to claim that the situation with the twelve schools has nothing to do with you?” Elder Xin’s smile grew colder, and the atmosphere in the room instantly became heavy, a tense, oppressive air spreading gradually.
“As the boss, are you unaware that one of your men, a young fellow named Zhou Cang, has practically monopolized all the higher education institutions in Xinyuan City these past few days?” Elder Xin questioned somberly.
“I… I truly didn’t know about this. You see, I left town for business from Monday, and today is Friday. I haven’t been home all week, so how could I know about these students’ affairs?” Ge Long responded with a forced smile, inwardly cursing Zhou Cang for causing trouble the moment he arrived. Out of all people to provoke, it had to be this infamously cunning old fox.
“Oh? Is that so?” Xin Weng squinted, then suddenly chuckled. “Today, I invited you for a meal. Let’s not discuss unpleasant matters. Come, let’s have a drink!” With that, he downed his glass.
“Rest assured, Mr. Xin, I’ll look into this matter thoroughly and give you an explanation. Cheers!” Ge Long replied, drinking his own glass. The meal passed with the two exchanging banter that seemed casual to onlookers, who might assume they were old friends catching up. In reality, they were probing each other’s intentions through veiled language, mixing mutual flattery with subtle barbs.
