Supreme Rogue Play in Another World - Chapter 25 - Adoptive Father
“Hehe, although this matter is very confidential, we indeed have knowledge of it…” The chubby director of the police substation laughed as he took off his police jacket and draped it over Run Tiancheng.
“Why aren’t you releasing Young Master Run from the handcuffs? You idiots will all be fired sooner or later!” The director shouted angrily at the station commander, who was sitting on the floor making excuses, as if changing his expression like a face-changing performer.
“Yes… yes… right away…” The station commander hurriedly responded while searching for the key on himself.
“No need to bother!” Run Tiancheng sighed, and with a slight exertion of his hands, the iron handcuffs shattered like paper. The director rubbed his eyes, not daring to say much, while the station commander looked as if he had his wits scared out of him; the next day, he was sent to a mental hospital.
After getting into the director’s Honda, Run Tiancheng learned that he was being taken to the municipal bureau. He decided not to ask any further questions and closed his eyes to rest.
Half an hour later, in the guest room of the municipal public security bureau, Run Tiancheng finally met the rumored adoptive father, a well-dressed middle-aged man with neat hair, a kind face, and a well-proportioned build that gave an impression of natural charm. Just the glasses on his nose made Run Tiancheng secretly admire him.
He often accompanied Glasses Shorty to optical stores, so he knew a bit about such things. Those glasses were an Armani limited edition, and just the frames alone cost over a hundred thousand. This man was Zhou Jiang, already a notable figure in Xinyuan City and no stranger to magazine covers.
“Oh, your adoptive son has been brought in!” The elderly man in a high-ranking police uniform stood up immediately upon seeing Run Tiancheng and the fat director enter. He warmly shook Run Tiancheng’s hand, saying, “Ah, Tiancheng, I heard you were detained by that little station commander on West Third Road. It must have been a misunderstanding, right? They didn’t give you any trouble, did they?”
Run Tiancheng hesitated, unsure of how to respond, and touched his face with his fingers. The fat director quickly interjected, “Respected Director, I think that muddle-headed station commander should be dismissed. He even claimed that Young Master Run was a wanted criminal and attempted to sentence him to life imprisonment!”
Upon hearing this, the Respected Director’s face immediately turned serious. Waving his hand at the fat director, he said, “You know how this matter should be handled, you may leave now.”
The fat director nodded to everyone in the room with a false smile and was quickly pushed out, gently closing the conference room door behind him. After all, staying in a room where anyone inside had a higher rank than himself, and with Zhou Jiang being a figure he couldn’t possibly cozy up to, what point was there in hanging around without any shame?
Zhou Jiang set down his teacup with a warm smile and walked over to Run Tiancheng. “How about it, Tiancheng? If those police officers gave you a hard time, don’t worry. Tell Uncle Jiang, and he’ll take care of it for you!” He glanced at Director Jiang as he spoke.
Upon hearing this, Director Jiang visibly broke out in a sweat and quickly added, “Yes, yes, Tiancheng, don’t hold back!”
Run Tiancheng shook his head with a smile. “It’s really nothing. Thank you for your kind offer, Uncle Jiang. If it happens again, I’ll be sure to trouble you!”
Director Jiang laughed, “This kid has a sense of humor, ha, ha. It’s good that everything’s fine!” He then took a seat.
“You should at least say something to me. After all, I’m your adoptive father now, right?” Zhou Jiang whispered in Run Tiancheng’s ear, then patted him on the shoulder, smiling. “Alright, Tiancheng, let’s not trouble Director Jiang any further. Zhou Cang is waiting for you at home!”
As soon as Zhou Jiang mentioned Zhou Cang, Run Tiancheng perked up and responded with a smile, “Alright, adoptive father, let’s head back!” He politely greeted the high-ranking officials in the room before leaving the police station with Zhou Jiang.
Once in Zhou Jiang’s car, Run Tiancheng couldn’t help but ask loudly, “Uncle Zhou, do you have any news on Zhou Cang? How are they?”
Zhou Jiang wiggled his finger and softly said, “Keep it down. Now that every government agency in Xinyuan City knows you’re my adoptive son, do you want to blow my cover with all that shouting?”
Run Tiancheng stuck out his tongue, scratching his head apologetically. “Sorry… I’m just really worried about their safety.”
Zhou Jiang observed Run Tiancheng for a while before nodding with a smile. “Loyal and strong-it’s said you handled hundreds alone without a scratch. This time, Zhou Cang truly chose the right person. Don’t worry, they’re safe. You’ll see them once we get to my house!”
Run Tiancheng scratched his head in puzzlement. “Why do I feel more and more confused? It’s like everyone else knows what’s going on, and I’m the only one in the dark.”
Zhou Jiang laughed. “Haha, no need to rush. As a brother, you need to be patient. Let Zhou Cang explain it to you himself in a bit. For now, I can only say this was part of Zhou Cang’s plan. Everyone else was maneuvered step-by-step into it, except you-you’re the unpredictable element!”
Zhou Cang’s plan? Run Tiancheng felt a bit bewildered and a bit wronged. It seemed he was the real victim in all this. Since Zhou Jiang wasn’t inclined to explain Zhou Cang’s strategies, he thought for a moment and switched topics. “So, was that Director Jiang the highest-ranking police officer in Xinyuan City?”
Zhou Jiang nodded.
“Then does he know about the students selling drugs?” Run Tiancheng continued.
“I suppose he must know, but what can he do about it? Those students must have some powerful backing, strong enough to tie his hands. I’ve heard there’s a connection to the top leadership in the city.”
“So it’s that complicated, huh?” Run Tiancheng licked his lips. It seemed the situation on his side was getting more complex too. All he could do was wait to meet Zhou Cang and get some answers.
Zhou Jiang, being the richest man in Xinyuan City, had a home that was beyond the imagination of ordinary people.
The entire mansion covered an area of about a thousand square meters.
Tall walls, a three-story villa, and a European-style fountain with carved railings could be seen from afar. Sitting in the car, Run Tiancheng noticed the rippling swimming pool and couldn’t help but think, “It’s great to have money!”
The grand iron gates opened slowly, and the car drove into the imposing courtyard. Servants in uniform quickly approached to open the car doors.
“Come on in, they’re all inside!” Zhou Jiang smiled at Run Tiancheng as he entered the magnificent villa.
Run Tiancheng looked up at the villa for a while, then rubbed his chin. “A house this big could fit a lot of people!”
