Supreme Rogue Play in Another World - Chapter 24 - The Fat Director Loses His Temper
The director of the Jiuzhou District Police Substation was a big, fat guy. Just how fat was he? So fat that he couldn’t see his own belly button when he looked down. The idea of squatting down to tie his shoes had become a legend from god knows how many years ago. From afar, anyone unfamiliar might mistake him for a meatball in a police uniform, given how his breadth surpassed his height.
This fat guy was notoriously lazy, even unwilling to take an extra step. So why was he suddenly showing up so late at the inconspicuous West Third Road police station today?
The station commander had a million questions running through his mind. He quickly decided to dispatch a police officer to the supermarket across the road to buy two packs of good cigarettes. After adjusting his facial expressions, he walked into the office with a flattering smile, holding the cigarettes.
Inside the station commander’s office, the chubby director sat on the sofa, wiping sweat with a silk handkerchief.
“Respected Director, what brings you here?” the station commander, full of a fawning grin, respectfully entered.
“Finally, you show up? Hmph, what wind could move me? Your joke’s not funny at all!” The director glanced at the cigarettes in the station commander’s hands and snorted, “The doctor says my blood pressure is too high recently, and I’ve quit smoking!”
The station commander swallowed hard. Previously, every time he tried to please this director, he offered cigarettes. Being so straightforwardly refused indicated there must be an issue. His mind began to whirl with anxiety.
“Well… it’s good to quit smoking, good to quit smoking. Honestly, cutting back on these things can only benefit your health, you know. So what does the Respected Director show interest in now, so I can have it prepared for you?” The station commander, in his current position, might as well have been a dog if he had grown a tail.
“No need for that effort. I’ve got a headache lately and I’m not interested in anything!” the director dismissed impatiently, casting his small, barely open eyes sharply at the station commander. “I heard the security in your jurisdiction hasn’t been great lately!”
Here it comes, the moment of eruption. The station commander braced himself mentally and quickly replied, “Ah, it’s all right, it’s all right, just some students causing trouble now and then. You know, we have three schools along this road, so naturally, there are plenty of minor nuisances.”
“Well…” The director of police substation nodded slightly, any larger movement might have been impossible as his head and body seemed to be connected directly without a neck, which appeared to have devolved away: “I heard there was a rather nasty brawl that just took place!”
“That’s right, a stray punk came to Tianshi University causing trouble, and injured quite a few students. We’ve already detained him, and after checking, we found out that this kid is actually a wanted criminal who has committed numerous crimes before…” the station commander quickly reported, thinking that if the director confirmed the case, it wouldn’t matter whether the kid confessed or not.
“Oh? A wanted criminal? Committed numerous crimes?” The director showed a hint of skepticism.
“Yes, that’s right. We’ve confirmed it. Previously, there were violent assault and murder cases in the district, all his doing. Even the bodies found in the east of the city some years ago must have been his handiwork!” The station commander, apparently not inexperienced in fabricating charges, painted Run Tiancheng as an utterly reprehensible criminal.
“Not bad, solving such a tricky case here, huh? Should I write a commendation to the city for you?” The fat director’s smile was anything but reassuring.
“Thank you, Respected Director, for your support!” The station commander beamed as he poured the director a cup of tea, feeling as if his career was suddenly looking bright.
“By the way, I forgot to ask, what’s the criminal’s name?” The director asked suddenly, taking a sip of tea.
“This… the name is quite hard to remember, I can’t recall it right now!” The station commander was stunned, then started to make something up off the cuff.
“Can’t remember the criminal’s name, how did you become the station commander?” The director’s face darkened as he shattered the teacup on the floor. “Isn’t it Run Tiancheng?”
The startled station commander, shaking all over, rushed to the interrogation room to ask, leaving Run Tiancheng puzzled as to how the station commander suddenly knew his name.
“Respected Director… the criminal… his name is indeed Run Tiancheng…” The station commander, trembling slightly, reported to the director of the police substation, his unease growing.
“Then there’s no mistake…” The director struggled to stand up, took a deep breath, and then, glaring with his small eyes, shouted angrily, “How on earth did you become the station commander? A letter of commendation to the bureau? Write your resignation letter instead! To my knowledge, this young man, Run Tiancheng, is a sophomore at Yuhua University, the top student in his class! He’s in school every day, where would he find the time to commit the crimes you mentioned?”
With a loud ‘thud,’ the station commander dropped to his knees, trembling and slapping his face, crying out miserably, “I’m sorry, Respected Director. I deserve to be punished, I’m useless, I made a mistake in my investigation!”
“A mistake?” The director swung his large frame and kicked the station commander, sending him rolling a few times, while cursing, “And just saying it was a mistake is enough? You’ve already gone too far by arresting him, and you piled all sorts of false charges on him! Do you know what connections he has? Why do you think I came here in the middle of the night? Do you think I wanted to come to this filthy place? The municipal bureau demanded his release! I humbled myself to plead and came personally to get him out! Damn it, you incompetent fool, just making trouble for me!”
The station commander, now a sniveling mess, tried to explain how he had been misled by others, but the director no longer paid him any attention and simply instructed a police officer to bring Run Tiancheng out.
Run Tiancheng, still in handcuffs, was brought to the station commander’s office. He was completely bewildered by the scene in front of him, not understanding what the police were up to now.
“Young Master Run, is it?” The director immediately put on a smile and hurried over to Run Tiancheng, “Oh dear, how did you end up all battered like this? Did they resort to using illegal means on you? Don’t worry, tell me, and I’ll make sure they’re severely punished!”
“Illegal means? They did want to try, but they weren’t capable. And you are…?” Run Tiancheng was confused by the sudden appearance of this round officer treating him so courteously.
“Young Master Run, please overlook the actions of these ignorant fools, they didn’t know your identity. Why did you go to Tianshi University, that school full of villains, all by yourself? You made your adoptive father, Mr. Zhou, worry about you!” The director spoke with a fawning smile, while large beads of sweat visibly rolled down his forehead.
“Hmm? My adoptive father… Mr. Zhou?” Run Tiancheng was even more puzzled. Since when did he have an adoptive father named Zhou? Could it be…
