Supernatural Brokers Rampaging in the Human World - Chapter 169 - Persistent Shadows
“Sorry I’m late.” Just as Su Yang was caught between laughter and tears, a deep male voice cut into their conversation. She looked up in surprise to see Chen Zhao.
“Weren’t you not coming?” Chen Zhao was supposed to accompany her to the ball, but something came up at the company, and he couldn’t leave. Yet, here he was, unexpectedly.
“Finished up and came over,” Chen Zhao smiled, naturally wrapping his arm around Su Yang’s waist, creating a barrier between her and the other two.
“Alright, the main guy’s here. Let’s not hurt each other anymore. How about we just dance together?” Ferdinand suggested without any awkwardness, straightening up and raising an eyebrow at Zhao Chang’an.
Zhao Chang’an chuckled lightly, “I don’t know how to lead. Ferdinand, with your looks, you must be good at following, right?”
Ferdinand rolled his eyes, too lazy to deal with this delusional lunatic, and turned to leave.
“Now that you’re here, how about a dance?” Chen Zhao invited Su Yang, seeing the two nuisances walk away.
Su Yang placed her hand in his, and they moved into the dance floor.
From a distance, Ferdinand saw this and muttered a curse under his breath, feeling pitiful as a single man. His gaze swept the room and landed on Zhao Chang’an dancing with a woman who appeared somewhat aloof. He recognized her as Gongye Miyoshi, Zhao Chang’an’s former subordinate.
Even the annoying ones had partners, while he was left alone, sighing as he drank idly.
Su Yang and Chen Zhao’s looks were so striking that even those who didn’t know them couldn’t help but stop and watch them dance.
The forum buzzed with activity again, as those not dancing posted updates on topics others might find interesting, their professionalism rivaling that of gossip reporters.
“So, are you still shipping the Double Presidents? That ship’s sunk, right?” The post included pictures of Zhao Chang’an dancing with Gongye Miyoshi and the earlier moment when Zhao Chang’an and Ferdinand both invited Su Yang to dance.
“OP, you’re a devil! I’m telling you, my Double Presidents ship won’t sink! This is clearly jealousy! That brat Ferdinand stupidly invited Lin Zhaonuan to dance first, so of course, our Chang’an got jealous and invited her too! But Lin Zhaonuan ignored both and went off with Adonis, the principal!
Jealous Zhao Chang’an is just teaching that little minx Ferdinand a lesson by dancing with his subordinate Gongye Miyoshi! It must be like that!”
“Sister above, I bow to you!”
“I’ve left a pen here for you, sister. When will you write a live report?”
“Speaking of which, the Double Geniuses ship is still the best. We figured out that ship together back in the day!”
“Double Geniuses +1, love those two! Ah, celestial romance!”
…
After Su Yang and Chen Zhao finished their dance, they retreated to a corner, sitting on a sofa. Su Yang was engrossed in browsing the forum, showing posts to Chen Zhao.
“Mind if I join you two?” A voice interrupted them just as they were getting into it.
Su Yang looked up to see Mu Baichuan. Chen Zhao, equally displeased at the intrusion into their private time, responded in a cold, flat tone, “We do mind.”
Mu Baichuan, unfazed by the cold reception, sat down on the sofa opposite them. “You know, Zhaonuan is still my sister.”
“I don’t think we’re that close, Mr. Mu?” Su Yang felt the Mu Family was like a persistent shadow, always coming to bother her with their claims of kinship, which she had no interest in.
Mu Baichuan sighed, looking at Su Yang as if she were an unruly little sister, a look that made her shiver. “Zhaonuan, you’ve returned to the Yuan Family, so why not come back to the Mu Family? Whatever the Yuan Family can offer, we can offer more. You’d be the undisputed heir the moment you return.”
