Supernatural Brokers Rampaging in the Human World - Chapter 161 - The Wedding (Part 3)
Feng Bei placed Su Yang’s hand into Chen Zhao’s, unable to utter a word. He feared that the moment he opened his mouth, his voice would betray him with a trembling sob. Instead, he channeled all his emotions into an intense gaze fixed on Chen Zhao-a look that clearly conveyed everything he wanted to say: “If you don’t treat her well, I’ll make you regret it.”
Chen Zhao gently took Su Yang’s hand, as if holding the most precious treasure in the world. He nodded slightly at Feng Bei, fully aware of what everyone there was thinking. But-how could he possibly let them doubt him? This was the love he had waited two lifetimes for, a love that required reincarnation itself to achieve.
The sight of these two together was so stunningly beautiful that even Cecilia, usually a spirited and lively lady, couldn’t help but cover her mouth with her handkerchief, tears of joy streaming down her face.
The priest held up a golden Bible and solemnly recited the vows. The couple gazed deeply into each other’s eyes. Although these vows meant little in the grand scheme of their lives, they repeated every word with utmost sincerity.
When the time came to exchange rings, the priest declared slowly, “The groom may now kiss your bride.”
Chen Zhao smiled and lowered his head, placing a tender kiss on Su Yang’s lips with unmatched gentleness.
Their love was so radiant and pure that it stirred the hearts of everyone present. Many of the singles in the crowd suddenly found themselves longing for romance, especially the younger women, clutching their chests and looking as though they might faint.
Who said love can’t exist in powerful families? Didn’t this couple just prove them all wrong?
By the time the morning ceremony wrapped up, it was nearly midday. Chen Zhao whisked Su Yang away, helping her manage her voluminous wedding dress as they boarded a yacht, escaping the crowd to enjoy the sea.
But their so-called “escape” felt more like an extravagant extension of the wedding festivities. Over a dozen yachts raced across the open waters, a playground for the ultra-wealthy.
The salty sea breeze brushed against their faces, filling the air with a sense of serenity. Su Yang nestled against Chen Zhao’s chest, her eyes closing in contentment. No matter how they had missed each other or how much pain they had endured in their previous life, she believed that this time-and in all their lives to come-they would remain by each other’s side, their love unwavering.
“Nuan, I love you,” Chen Zhao confessed softly, his voice brimming with reverence.
“I love you too,” Su Yang replied, lifting her gaze to meet his deep, tender eyes.
The wedding went off without a hitch. After all, no one in their right mind would dare create trouble at the Stuart Family clan leader’s wedding. The day unfolded as perfectly as anyone could have hoped.
That evening, a grand banquet followed. It was little more than an elite networking event, where the world’s wealthiest mingled, sipped fine wine, and discussed business ventures. After opening the floor with the first dance, Chen Zhao and Su Yang quietly slipped away, retreating to their room to enjoy the intimacy of their own private world.
There were no journalists or media present throughout the wedding day. The Stuart Family’s own team of photographers recorded the entire event, which was later edited and handed over to Chen Zhao. He then uploaded the finished video onto Langlang.
Of course, before this, plenty of guests had already spilled some details about the wedding, though none as comprehensive as the official footage.
As a result, the couple naturally dominated the headlines for several days. Su Yang also shared a few photos on her personal feed, including one featuring her wedding ring, which was completely different from her previous engagement ring.
This wedding ring was an heirloom passed down within the Stuart Family, a symbol of lineage with a history that reportedly spanned over a thousand years. Its value was immeasurable, and it wasn’t something Su Yang would wear casually. On this occasion, the ring adorning her finger was the engagement ring Chen Zhao had gifted her.
With one of the world’s most eligible bachelors finally off the market, everyone began shifting their sights to Adonis’s son-perhaps one of them might even have the privilege of becoming Adonis’s in-law!
After the Western-style wedding, Chen Zhao still owed Su Yang a traditional Hua Country wedding. It was a matter close to their hearts-a way to honor what they had missed in their previous lives. In that timeline, their wedding should have been a grand celebration with a phoenix coronet, vibrant red attire, and the warmth of bridal chambers lit by glowing red candles.
From the engagement rituals to the escort procession, from the eight-carrier bridal sedan to the consummation of their union, the traditional customs required tremendous effort and attention. And Chen Zhao ensured every detail was perfect. He personally oversaw it all, even commissioning a mermaid to sew Su Yang’s bridal gown two months prior. With this amount of thoughtfulness, who wouldn’t be moved?
The second ceremony took place at Huanshan Pavilion-a truly fitting setting for what became known as the “wedding of the Nine-Tailed Fox Ma’am.” Even the resident spirits of the Ghost Market were invited to assist with the preparations, a rare opportunity they gladly embraced. After all, who wouldn’t want to witness a wedding of this magnitude? The Ghost Market, perpetually shrouded in gloom, rarely experienced joyful events. A celebration of this scale might occur once in several decades, if at all.
Naturally, not many people had the privilege of witnessing this traditional wedding. Watching from the sidelines, Feng Bei and Tushan Le wore complicated expressions, as if metaphorical daggers were being thrust into their hearts all over again. Was there some unspoken rule now that anyone who stabbed a knife had to twist it for good measure? Both of them were numb at this point, managing only a dry chuckle and a half-hearted shrug. Clearly, they couldn’t comprehend the over-the-top world of these lovesick fools.
At this time, at the Yuan Family residence.
After returning from the wedding, Yuan Junming sent a few photos of Su Yang to Yuan Yan and then asked, “Don’t you think this Lin Zhaonuan looks familiar? I can’t help but feel like I’ve seen her somewhere before.”
Yuan Yan glanced at the photos her brother had sent, but her gaze froze on the woman standing beside Lin Zhaonuan. Her expression instantly changed to one of indescribable terror-that woman… she had clearly died more than five years ago! Back then, she had been in a car accident while saving her son, Shang Xuan. That woman had been Shang Yue. But now, why was she appearing in these photos?
Standing beside her in the photo was Shang Xuan himself. He had completed his finance studies abroad a year ago and joined the Shang Family’s company after returning, becoming much more composed and mature since then.
However, when Yuan Yan’s face visibly stiffened, Shang Xuan noticed and leaned over to take a look. Before Yuan Yan could stop him, it was too late. Her son had already seen the photo.
“This is-?!” Shang Xuan’s reaction mirrored Yuan Yan’s. He repeatedly examined the photo closely, and there was no doubt about it. The woman in the picture was Shang Yue, who had died several years ago. Someone who was supposed to be dead had appeared at Lin Zhaonuan’s wedding just a few days ago. Back then, the family had waited anxiously outside the operating room, only to hear the doctor deliver the tragic news. They had even watched as Shang Yue’s body was cremated.
How could a dead person rise again? Shang Xuan was baffled as he stared at the photo but simultaneously felt a faint, secretive sense of joy swelling in his heart. The feeling was so selfish and irrational that he instinctively tried to suppress it.
Yuan Yan composed herself. This wasn’t the time to dwell on such thoughts. Whether the woman was Shang Yue or not didn’t fundamentally change things-it had little to do with them now. She redirected her attention to Lin Zhaonuan in the photo. Her brother had repeatedly mentioned that the girl looked familiar, and there was probably some truth to his instinct.
“Mom, this woman… she’s Shang Yue, isn’t she?” Shang Xuan asked nervously, his voice trembling.
Yuan Yan hesitated, her throat tightening. Just as she was about to say something, Shang Man came over. “Shang Yue? Brother, why are you thinking about her again?” Now an adult, Shang Man had grown into a refined young woman, no longer the spoiled and willful child she used to be. She furrowed her brow, clearly concerned about her brother’s emotions.
Shang Xuan shook his head but gestured toward the device in Yuan Yan’s hand. Yuan Yan sighed and handed the photo to Shang Man; there was no point in hiding it. Shang Yue had always been a thorn in their hearts. If-just if-Shang Yue had truly come back to life… Yuan Yan chuckled bitterly at the thought. Was her mind playing tricks on her now too?
Sure enough, Shang Man let out a gasp after seeing the photo. Before she could say more, Yuan Yan said, “Let’s set aside the shock about Shang Yue for now. Your uncle insists that Lin Zhaonuan looks familiar. Take a closer look-do you feel the same?”
Prompted by her mother, Shang Man examined Lin Zhaonuan more carefully. Whether it was due to the power of suggestion or something deeper, the more she looked, the more familiar Lin Zhaonuan seemed. As someone who studied art and had a keen eye for facial recognition, Shang Man spent a long moment in thought before suddenly blurting out, “Mom, if I had to say… I think she looks a lot like Uncle.”
Yuan Yan froze. She glanced back at the photo, and suddenly, it clicked-the resemblance to her late eldest brother became impossible to ignore.
Most people had long forgotten that the Yuan Family once had two sons. The eldest, Yuan Junyuan, had originally been the rightful heir. However, after his tragic death in an accident more than twenty years ago, the title of head of the family had passed to Yuan Junming. Only the siblings knew that the real circumstances surrounding Yuan Junyuan’s death were far more dangerous and complex than the rumors suggested.
