Sunshine Filled with Thoughts - Chapter 42 - A Slowly Warming Life
Linlin walked in and could no longer see Yanyan, as he had left through another door, giving enough space for their parents.
Upon entering, Linlin only saw a large bedroom with a gigantic bed that could sleep four or five of her, but there was no one on the bed. The simple room was filled with a faint scent of Davidoff perfume.
An Jinmo stood on one side of the door, waiting for Linlin to come in. He slowly moved closer to her back and wrapped his arms tightly around her. The sudden feeling of having his heart filled made An Jinmo involuntarily breathe in Linlin’s subtle fragrance.
Linlin’s body suddenly stiffened. She instinctively shrank back a little, feeling a strange resistance to his embrace. As a couple, this shouldn’t be the case.
While astonished, she tried to make herself more compliant. An Jinmo leaned his lips and nose into Linlin’s long black hair, inhaling the delicate fragrance of her shampoo.
“You… weren’t you sick?” Linlin asked shyly, trying to dodge An Jinmo’s advance. She found it hard to handle such intimate gestures.
“I was sick…” An Jinmo replied, closing his eyes, his tone laced with a hint of petulance.
“Did you take your medicine?” Linlin, feeling anxious, wanted to break free from his embrace, indicating that if he hadn’t taken his medication, he should let her go to do so!
“No…” An Jinmo’s voice was soft, as if he were pleading for something. However, Linlin’s feelings were a bit complex, and she couldn’t quite grasp the implication behind his words.
“If you haven’t…” Linlin quickly interrupted, trying to find an excuse to escape. But before she could finish, An Jinmo stated, “You are my medicine…”
As soon as he said that, even the simplest person could tell it was a love confession. Linlin recognized it, but in that moment, she was at a loss for what to do.
“I… I… what… medicine… am I?!” Linlin stumbled over her words, feeling incredibly nervous. It was too overwhelming for her; such a handsome husband was confessing his feelings in such an ambiguous way. She was really struggling to cope. An Jinmo noticed that the person in his arms was trembling with anxiety and didn’t understand why. He loosened his embrace to check on Linlin, but she suddenly turned beet red, feeling too embarrassed to let An Jinmo see. She was too late to avoid it; before she could turn away, An Jinmo grabbed her arm and turned her around.
Lowering her head, she let her long hair fall to cover her face. Suddenly, a gentle love song began to drift through the air. An Jinmo turned and watched as his son’s voice disappeared through the crack in the door. He couldn’t help but give a thumbs-up to his son in his mind. What a good kid! Once I win over your mother, you’ll surely benefit!
Linlin curiously raised her head and saw a small speaker that had appeared at the door.
As she felt puzzled, she also realized that An Jinmo had noticed her flushed face. She wanted to lower her head but was stopped by An Jinmo’s long, warm finger, which seemed like a masterpiece of the gods.
One hand rested on Linlin’s chin to prevent her from looking down. The other hand tucked Linlin’s hair behind her ear. The entire movement was so gentle, as if he were treating the person he loved most in the world.
After the action was complete, Linlin finally gathered enough courage to look at An Jinmo. Time seemed to freeze in that moment. Linlin’s eyes were so clear, resembling an untainted pool of green water, drawing anyone in who dared to look. Her skin was very fair, and her naturally radiant face had no excess adornments. Girls like her, with such natural beauty, were truly rare. Her face still had some baby fat, perhaps due to her good eating habits during this time. She had gained a little weight compared to her previously slender figure, but now she was even softer to hold. It was a stark contrast to before, when holding her felt like pricking oneself with sharp bones.
Now was better; she didn’t want to revisit those bad memories. An Jinmo looked at Linlin with gentle, shimmering eyes and said, “I like you. Even if you’ve forgotten everything about me, can we start over?”
“Mm…” An Jinmo’s gaze was too genuine and profound, making Linlin involuntarily utter that word as if she had been spellbound.
In fact, deep down, she felt blank. For someone who had lost their memories, everything was a void, including feelings. So at this moment, the person who initially wrote in her heart became the most significant figure-someone who turned out to be An Jinmo.
The relationship between the two began to change that morning. As for how significant the change was, it exceeded many people’s imaginations. Shortly after Linlin’s recovery, Momo was preparing to immigrate to the United States with Zhaozhao. All the paperwork was completed. They just needed to fly over.
Before leaving, Momo came to visit Linlin, and she was astonished on that day.
Having already witnessed their dynamic, Momo thought that if they could just have a few good conversations, it would be an improvement. But when she arrived that day, during dinner, Linlin fed An Jinmo a piece of tofu. The two of them were cozying up at the dining table for quite a while. Yanyan remained calm, simply enjoying his children’s meal, but Momo and Zhaozhao couldn’t maintain their composure. They watched the couple, feeling as though they were in the midst of a romantic relationship.
It felt as if they had been struck by lightning. Linlin’s amnesia had unnecessarily benefited An Jinmo, allowing him to win her heart.
Though Linlin’s relationship with Momo couldn’t compare to how it was before her memory loss, Momo remained one of the closest people she knew. That was already significant. When it was time for them to leave, Linlin went to the airport to see them off and shared a long embrace with Momo.
“I don’t know why, but even though I don’t remember you, every time I’m with you, I feel warm and trusting, as if you’re the most trustworthy person in the world,” Linlin spoke from the heart. Her words brought tears to Momo’s eyes.
In this world, the only person who could make Momo cry was Zhou Linlin.
Zhaozhao saw Momo tearing up and quickly put on his oversized sunglasses, curious about the situation. He approached Linlin, wanting to hug her, but before they could embrace, An Jinmo pushed him away.
“I think it’s best to avoid it. You and Momo are family. Just a brief hug will do…”
“……” Zhaozhao
“……” Momo
“……” Linlin
The three of them were momentarily frozen, the awkwardness palpable.
Momo managed to hold back the tears that were about to spill over.
This couple truly complemented each other; one made you cry, and the other made you smile.
Saying goodbye was inevitably sad, but sometimes, it couldn’t be avoided. Zhaozhao went through security with Momo while Linlin nestled in An Jinmo’s embrace, feeling reluctant. She silently wished the disappearing figure goodbye, saying, “Safe travels.”
On the way home, Linlin suddenly asked, “Am I twenty-two now?”
“Mm-hmm,” An Jinmo replied, his eyes focused on the road ahead.
“What’s my education? Did I go to college?” Linlin asked, looking at An Jinmo’s handsome profile.
“Yes, you did. Are you curious to see?” An Jinmo turned his face to Linlin, noticing the anticipation in her eyes.
“Yes, yes!!!” Linlin nodded vigorously, wanting An Jinmo to understand the eagerness in her heart through the intensity of her nodding.
The school still looked the same as it had two years ago, but many things had changed. For instance, many students had successfully graduated, and the familiar faces were gone, replaced by younger ones. They were the fresh blood of the school, driving the progress of this new era.
For Linlin, who had lost her memory, everything she saw felt new. As for An Jinmo, he had only been here once or twice before and didn’t have much of an impression. He always harbored a selfish thought: he wanted to leave his mark on Linlin’s life moving forward, a mark no one could erase. But life was filled with people who played different roles in various lives, like the three girls Linlin had lived with during college. Currently, Qing was Yanyan’s caretaker and teacher, living together with An Jinmo and Yanyan. They hadn’t seen Linlin yet because of some family matters before she was discharged from the hospital. The other two had stayed at their university to continue their graduate studies.
Today, the three former roommates unexpectedly ran into each other on campus. Linlin was playfully gripping An Jinmo’s arm, chatting with him about the beautiful scenery around them, when she noticed two girls approaching who she did not recognize. However, Lily and Liang were very familiar with Linlin. In her second semester of sophomore year, Linlin had suddenly dropped out and never returned to campus, only to mysteriously reappear during their senior year, graduating with top honors and an outstanding thesis. She seemed to vanish and reappear like a mysterious figure, and their understanding of her was limited to her being a quiet person. Despite often being absent from the dorm, there hadn’t been any bad rumors about her.
Seeing her now truly felt surreal, as if worlds apart.
Linlin suddenly felt overwhelmed by the enthusiastic approach of these two girls, especially since they seemed to know her. They bombarded her with questions.
“Linlin, what are you doing now?”
“It’s been so long since I last saw you! What happened?”
“Is this guy your boyfriend?”
“He’s different from the last boy…”
It was hard to tell whether they hadn’t changed over the years or were trying to pry information from this now-mysterious girl by gossiping among classmates.
Linlin clearly couldn’t handle it. She quickly hid behind An Jinmo.
Compared to him, Linlin felt like a naive novice when it came to dealing with various people. She had no experience at all and looked very easy to intimidate.
“Excuse me, ladies! My wife doesn’t know you. Perhaps she looks a lot like someone from your class, but she really isn’t. Her name is also Linlin. I’m sorry, but please step aside.”
An Jinmo was polite but firmly pulled Linlin’s hand as they dodged the questions from the two clearly chatty women.
Linlin glanced anxiously at An Jinmo and the two girls before hurriedly following him away.
