Sunset Warrior Chant - Chapter 56 - The Post-Trial Reception
The candidates, covered in scars and having fasted for two days, were drained of energy. Supporting each other, they took a long time to reach the gate of the garden. As the two iron doors creaked open, the candidates looked outside to find a large crowd waiting. Men and women, old and young, all dressed in identical black Magic Robes, greeted them with smiles.
The older individuals were the academy mentors, with a golden goose embroidered on their chests. The younger ones were academy students, with one to six stars embroidered on their sleeves, representing their grade level from one to six.
As the candidates exited the Magical Beast Garden, the Yan Mountain Academy’s faculty and students parted to create a path. The candidates followed this path to the base of the “Yan Mountain Academy Hall,” entered through a fifty-meter-wide portal at the back of the hall, and took the magical elevators up to the tenth floor of the academy. There, they found themselves in front of a door.
Fu Qiruo noticed the three large characters on the door: “Return to Spirit Hall.” As the candidates entered the hall one after another, it felt like stepping into a mystical wonderland. The circular hall had a diameter of over thirty meters, and its intricately designed walls formed a curved line pattern. From a horizontal view, it looked like a row of neatly arranged tall goblets, while from above, it resembled a giant lotus flower.
A cool white mist filled the floor of the circular hall, providing a refreshing sensation. In the center was a round pool with a diameter of twenty meters, its floor seemingly made of transparent green jade. Within the jade, shimmering waves held a mysterious energy. Rings of light in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet gathered rhythmically from the edges towards the center.
Above the pool, about ten meters high, palm-sized blue spherical crystals were arranged into a circular dome, each with a slender spike beneath. These spikes emitted thin beams of light, all pointing towards the circular pool’s center below, casting a sacred, inviolable illumination over the entire pool.
An injured candidate was helped into the pool by two students and stood in its center. A wondrous sound emerged from the pool, and a halo of light enveloped the candidate’s head. Bathed in divine light, he seemed to be reinvigorated. After the time it took to brew a cup of tea, his injuries appeared healed, his spirit revitalized, dispelling his prior state of extreme fatigue.
The candidate’s face broke into a smile as if he had just had a refreshing nap. As the light above him gradually dimmed, his body had fully recovered. He stretched his arms and legs, his body agile and full of joy as he descended from the pool.
One by one, candidates entered and exited the pool. It wasn’t long before it was Xiao Gang’s turn. When Xiao emerged from the pool, Lu Xiner asked, “How’s your foot?”
Xiao Gang lifted his left foot, and Lu Xiner examined it closely, finding no scars. He then raised his right foot, but again, there were no marks to be seen. With a look of disbelief, Lu Xiner said, “This is unbelievable. Can the Return to Spirit Hall actually heal any internal or external injuries? Little Junior Brother, which foot was injured originally?”
Xiao Gang raised both feet again and looked at them from side to side. Both ankles seemed perfectly fine. Scratching his head, he said, “It seemed like it was the left foot, or maybe the right. Ah! I forgot, can’t be bothered to remember. Senior Sister, just consider me never injured.”
Lu Xiner watched as Fu Qiruo walked into the pool, standing at its center, his small frame bathed in beams of light.
Fu Qiruo looked around and saw nothing but light. A refreshing coolness rose from beneath his feet, while a gentle warmth descended from above, enveloping him in a pleasant, tingling comfort. The mysterious energy seeped through countless pores, coursing through his body, channeling into his meridians, and in a moment became his own power.
The strength was surprisingly robust, even more than at his most energized before. As he clenched his fist, he had an urge to punch, but noticing the dozens of eyes watching him, he discreetly relaxed his fingers. The once-soft fist had turned into a solid iron one, and his feet, once heavy, were now incredibly light and agile. Standing firmly at the pool’s center, it felt as though his footing penetrated several feet deep into the ground. He thought about arm-wrestling with Xiao Gang, usually being easily overturned by a single pull, but now, it felt like even two Xiao Gangs might not move him an inch.
For two days, Fu Qiruo had been weak from exhaustion, but now, suddenly aided by this mysterious energy, every pore was in a state of excitement, his skin and muscles on every inch of his body brimming with unprecedented strength. Unconsciously, he channeled his magical energy and suddenly felt that he had reached the realm of a level 4 mage, finally breaking through the level 3 limit.
Lu Xiner watched intently from outside the pool. Beneath the white glow, Fu Qiruo’s face was still flushed with vitality. His eyes opened and closed as if seeing through the crowd around him, seemingly maturing a year in the blink of an eye, leaving Lu Xiner somewhat puzzled.
Fu Qiruo, however, was thinking about Fu Feng’s dominating level 5 magic in the laboratory, which no longer seemed so far away. When could he himself reach the realm of his senior brother?
Everyone took turns passing through the pool like a carousel, healing all their major and minor injuries, their physical and mental exhaustion vanished, leaving them exuberant. The thoughts of perils in the Magical Beast Garden, along with the sensations of hunger, confusion, and fear, were now behind them, as though they had stepped into paradise.
After more than an hour, over a hundred people had their mental and physical energy restored to peak condition. Following their mentors, they were led to the third floor of Yan Mountain Academy, where a large area was dedicated to the “Water World.” This area was divided into separate sections for males and females, consisting of dozens of private, enclosed bathhouses.
The boys and girls each entered their respective bathhouses to bathe and change clothes. Each bathhouse was equipped with an automatic magic sensing device, a unique masterpiece exclusively found at Yan Mountain Academy on the entire continent.
Inside these small bathhouses, one could control the bathing process with their mind. The sensing device offered an instant variety of magical energies. Wind magic levitated the body, allowing it to freely turn in the air. Water magic activated streams of purified water for bathing. Light magic provided illumination. Fire energy adjusted the water temperature and dried the body after bathing, while earth magic offered scrubbing and massage effects.
As everyone emerged from their baths, they carried with them a refreshing and pleasant fragrance. The academy had prepared a fitting uniform for each candidate, including a black Magic Robe as the outer coat, perfectly tailored to each person, as the academy already knew their sizes. As they swapped their tattered and dirty clothes for new Magic Robes, the candidates officially became qualified members of Yan Mountain Academy, with renewed expressions on their faces.
On the second floor lobby, the academy hosted a unique welcoming ceremony for the newcomers. The lobby was filled with dozens of round tables adorned with vibrant peonies in full bloom, and various delicious delicacies were served. Existing students bustled around, seemingly becoming attendants or maidservants, busily running errands in the lobby. The newcomers, famished and parched, dove eagerly into the feast, men and women alike, devouring the food with little regard for decorum, occasionally prompting amused chuckles from those around them.
At the far end of the lobby stood an arched stage, where a man with a commanding presence stood at its center. He was Vice-Principal Wu Tuhai, who cleared his throat and warmly addressed the newcomers from the stage: “Greetings, new students, future leaders of a new generation! On behalf of Yan Mountain Academy, I warmly welcome you all! Congratulations on passing the three rounds of assessments and becoming qualified members of Yan Mountain Academy.”
“Yan Mountain Academy has a history spanning over 800 years, producing countless heroes and warriors, and is renowned among all magic academies on the continent. Joining Yan Mountain Academy is entering a cradle of heroes.
“The admission assessment here is stringent and detached because you are not here to be entertained or to listen to music. You didn’t come here for embroidery or to stroll through a fair. You are here to face the challenges of destiny.
“Yan Mountain Academy has no room for cowards, fools, or the weak. We seek only the strong, the talented. After leaving these gates, it’s about defending the homeland, fighting on the battlefield, battling for your nation and for humanity! Your stage is one of life-and-death trials, where you are valorous in life and resounding in history after death.
“Do not be modest about your powerful magical abilities, nor humbled by your superior strategic wisdom. Do not fear the vivid hues of blood or panic at the suffering of life. This world is one of blood and fire, and here, your fate is in your own hands-you are your own gods…
“Thank you for trusting and supporting Yan Mountain Academy! I am honored to wish you success in your studies and a bright, glorious future. May your school life be filled with joy!”
