Sunset Warrior Chant - Chapter 37 - Each Dominates the Field with Their Own Prowess
of its white fur, but fortunately, its injuries were not severe, and there was no danger to its life. Yu An let out a long sigh of relief.
Carrying the Arrow Snake, the Wind Leopard followed Wang Tianhao towards the exit of the arena. Under the gaze of hundreds of eyes, Wang Tianhao felt disgraced, thinking it unseemly to leave in such a dejected manner. He mocked himself, saying, “When did my little leopard ever advance to level 5? It’s truly unbelievable.”
Yu An scolded, “You really have some nerve!”
Wang Tianhao, raising an eyebrow in feigned surprise, laughed, “Do you think so? I don’t feel that way. Isn’t the arena just like a gambling den? What’s wrong with employing a little skill in gambling? When you enter the gambling den, you must be prepared to lose. Today, I accept my loss. How about I bring a level 4 magical beast next time and bet a hundred thousand gold coins against you? Would you dare to bet?”
Yu An snorted, “What’s there to be afraid of? I’m ready anytime! Just make sure you have the gold coins ready. I’ll have uncle bring a big sack to carry them.”
This time, Wang Tianhao truly left. Fu Qiruo then realized that Wang Tianhao did not dare to offend Arena Master Qin too severely; otherwise, he wouldn’t have spared the little white cat’s life at the last moment. This realization made him regard Qin Yang with even greater respect.
Qin Yang said to Yu An, “An accident occurred during this match, and as the Arena Master, I bear some responsibility. The rightful winner of this competition should be Young Master Yu, and all ten thousand gold coins from Young Master Wang should go to Young Master Yu. It’s dinner time now; would you two gentlemen care to stay for a simple meal as a way for me to apologize?”
After some polite refusals, Fu Qiruo and Yu An were insistently asked to stay, and thus a unique competition came to an unexpected end. The audience dispersed from the stands, and Qin Yang ordered the closure of the arena.
Qin Yang owned his own restaurant, which had prepared an excellent banquet. Fu Qiruo, Yu An, and Yu Fei sat at the table. The little white cat lay in Yu An’s arms, its injuries nearly healed. Being a light magic beast, the little white cat could use a level 2 “Healing Spell” to heal itself. Yu An was not worried, though the little white cat had lost a lot of fur, leaving its skin bare, which seemed to embarrass it greatly.
The table was laden with famous dishes from Kur City, many of which were fresh magical beast meat. Qin Yang explained one by one how this meat greatly benefits swordsmen and mages in their cultivation. Fu Qiruo asked, “Where does this magical beast meat come from? Arena Master Qin’s supply seems even more abundant than that at the Eight Directions Inn.”
Alixin walked back and forth on the table, glancing here and there. Upon seeing the delicious food, he directly tore off pieces with his little hands. Qin Yang said, “Go ahead and eat, Alixin. Once you finish this table, I’ll set up another for you.” But Alixin was too busy to talk, his body smeared with grease as he stuffed chunks of magical beast meat into his mouth, leaving only the sound of chewing.
Qin Yang pointed at several dishes and said, “These are all fine cuts of beast meat, all eliminated from the Beast Arena. Look at this one, it’s a level 3 magical beast; now look at this, a level 4 magical beast; and over here, this one was eliminated last month; and that one, just a few days ago…”
Listening to Qin Yang, Fu Qiruo was amazed. The eliminated magical beasts had become the source of food for Qin Yang’s establishment. These beasts might not have been heroes in the arena, but they certainly dominated the flavor on the dining table, each excelling in its own way.
Yu Fei asked, “Where does the Beast Arena find so many magical beasts?”
Qin Yang responded, “I’ve owned this Beast Arena for over a decade now. Every day, people bring their magical beasts here to compete, and friends come to place bets for a thrill. This makes the Beast Arena extraordinarily lively, a gathering place for everyone, all thanks to the great fortune bestowed by our friends.
“As the events increase, naturally, there are hunters who sell magical beasts, bringing tamed ones from forests and mountains all over the continent. Many of these on the table were once prominent figures in the arena, and they are just as invaluable here on our dining tables.”
“However, today’s encounter with Alixin and the little white cat has truly been an eye-opener for me. My Beast Arena hosts a variety of unique magical beasts. In the past, I’ve adopted many; some are bought by wealthy individuals as pets, others dominate the tournament arena, and many are eliminated. Yet, I have never seen such a small and exquisitely fierce magical beast.
“Upon seeing them at the tournament arena today, they indeed proved to be rare and extraordinary creatures, far surpassing the usual magical beasts. Alixin is still a level 2 magical beast, with limitless potential. Alas! I have never had the chance to earn the favor of such rare creatures. The magical beasts recently brought in by hunters have been mostly artificially bred and are of very low quality. They only engage in mischief, never win championships, nor will they bear me little magical beasts, which is quite amusing, haha!”
Fu Qiruo and Yu An couldn’t help but burst into laughter, almost spitting out the meat they were eating, while Yu Fei smiled and said, “Arena Master Qin, you’re quite humorous.”
Qin Yang continued, “These two magical beasts are quite rare on the continent; I’ve hardly heard of them. I’ve only heard of a similar type of cat in Star Moon Kingdom, which is considered a national treasure there. I wonder if your little cat is related. As for Alixin, I’ve never heard of such a small creature.
“Though they are not wind magic beasts, their speed is exceptionally rare among their peers, which is no small feat. You are welcome to visit the Beast Arena more often. Of course, I shouldn’t say this, but if you are willing to part with them, I would offer a million gold coins to buy them. I would provide them with fine food and drinks, unlimited Spirit Gathering Pills and purified water, treating them well every day to ensure they suffer no grievances.”
Yu An thought to himself, “The little white cat is a rare species; how can it be compared to ordinary magical beasts? My beloved little white cat almost became the mud under a Wind Leopard’s feet. Even if such accidents won’t happen in the future, if it encounters more formidable magical beasts in the arena, it could lose favor in Arena Master Qin’s eyes and become a snack on the dining table. I must not let Arena Master Qin entertain any such thoughts. As for returning to the Beast Arena for competitions, after today’s scare, I doubt we will come back once this meal is finished.”
Yu An was unsure how to respond, and Yu Fei added, “Arena Master Qin, you are a wealthy and respected man! How could you be interested in two inconspicuous beings? Besides, Kur City’s famous Beast Arena surely isn’t lacking a beast or two?”
Seeing that they were unmoved by the offer of gold coins, Qin Yang changed his tone and said, “I was just joking; who could bear to part with such adorable creatures, haha!”
Yu Fei agreed, saying, “What the Arena Master said is true, absolutely true.”
At the gathering, Qin Yang was quite the conversationalist, while Fu Qiruo and Yu An merely listened and ate, the meal stretching over two hours and concluding close to midnight. After dinner, Yu An escorted Fu Qiruo back to the inn, where rooms were still available in the backyard. Fu Qiruo convinced Yu An and Yu Fei to stay nearby.
The next morning, Alixin became the center of attention in the courtyard, cherished and admired by many. He had hoped to impress the little white cat, but discovered something enviable instead-the little white cat’s fur was immaculate and snowy white in the morning, showing no signs of shedding. The little white cat said meaningfully to Alixin, “You little thing, how could you know the charm of light magic?” Indeed, the magic of light was wondrous, restoring the snowy white fur overnight.
Over the next few days, Alixin got familiar with the Eight Directions Inn, often sneaking a pig’s head from the kitchen to the backyard. This led to frequent thefts from the kitchen, and Li Changshun would always come looking for Fu Qiruo in the backyard, eventually charging the stolen goods to Fu Wenjun’s account without inquiry. Fu Qiruo asked Alixin, “Why don’t you eat Black Snake Meat anymore?” Alixin cheekily replied, “Black snakes are common in the forest, but I’ve seldom had pork before.” Fu Qiruo laughed, “You haven’t seen a pig run yet. Someday, I’ll show you.”
A few days later, Fu Qiruo suddenly noticed a face swaying at the gate-it was Arena Master Qin, Qin Yang. Somehow, Qin Yang had found his way here, and if not for the long journey, Fu Qiruo would have nearly forgotten about him. He thought, “What does Arena Master Qin want? Could he be coming to pay respects to me? It seems not, he must have taken a liking to my precious Alixin.”
As expected, Qin Yang mentioned that Alixin and the little white cat had become celebrities at the Beast Arena. He had learned of the owner’s residence in Kur City and decided to stop by while passing through. Fu Wenjun and the others were reluctant to meet with outsiders, so Fu Qiruo and Yu An had little to say to Qin Yang, who left upon realizing the conversation was not engaging. In the following days, Qin Yang frequently passed by the inn, visiting Alixin and the little white cat in the backyard and even made a tailored outfit for Alixin, which suited him well. Occasionally, Qin Yang mentioned meeting Fu Wenjun, who pretended to be busy with cultivation or resting, ultimately avoiding the meeting, leaving Qin Yang disappointed.
After returning from the Beast Arena, everyone intensified their cultivation of magic to prepare for the entrance screening at Yan Mountain Academy. To everyone’s surprise, Yu An turned out to be a level 3 light magic mage, whose skills were starkly different from Fu Qiruo’s dark magic. His Light Feather Arrow was executed with exceptional agility, almost matching Fu Qiruo’s Inferno Blade. Yu Fei, also a formidable figure, was a level 8 swordsman, often sparring with Yu An.
One morning, just as Fu Qiruo got out of bed, Xiao Gang informed him that the streets in front of the inn had been put under martial law, the reason for which was unclear. There were whispers all around, sparking curiosity. Fu Qiruo speculated, “Could it be that a dangerous magical beast has escaped in Kur City, or perhaps a formidable prisoner? Are they conducting a citywide search?” Despite his inquiries nearby, no one seemed to know, and everyone continued their usual cultivation without paying much heed.
By the afternoon, Fu Qiruo visited the restaurant at the inn to sit idly, as Yu An, focused on his entrance exams, rarely joined him anymore. Often alone, Fu Qiruo observed the diverse crowd coming and going in the inn, with Alixin lingering around him. He felt that they were too engrossed in their rigorous cultivation routines, not knowing how to balance their time, and gradually, he preferred his own company, sometimes even wandering outside the inn to explore the vicinity.
Today, there were few diners in the restaurant, mostly those staying at the inn. As Fu Qiruo sat by the window pondering over the commotion in Kur City and why he was restricted from strolling outside, he suddenly heard the clear sound of horse hooves on the deserted street. The hooves gradually approached the Eight Directions Inn. Peering out, Fu Qiruo saw a red sedan carried by four bearers approaching the building, flanked by four tall horses at both the front and the back, each ridden by an elderly man in his fifties or sixties.
Fu Qiruo wondered how these people could freely move about on the empty streets – didn’t anyone care? Upon closer inspection, the sedan was unremarkable, but the tall horses were impressively fierce and majestic. Having been in Kur City for several days, Fu Qiruo had not seen such outstanding horses before. The elderly riders had an extraordinary presence, looking straight ahead, ignoring everyone else. He thought to himself, “These individuals must certainly be of some significance.”
