Sunset Warrior Chant - Chapter 33 - Turbulent and Unpredictable
The little white cat seemed weightless, like a light, bouncing ball, hitting the stone wall and falling to the ground. However, it quickly scrambled up and chased after the Wind Leopard like the wind.
“This cat dares to show off too,” Alixin said softly, his tone somewhat disdainful.
Only then did Fu Qiruo remember Alixin, who seemed unconvinced. Taking advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention, Fu Qiruo peeled a grape and popped it into Alixin’s mouth, whispering, “Do you also want to join the fray?”
“Not that, I want the one with the green skin and red flesh, I want the Comfort Fruit!”
“You do have some taste, knowing that Comfort Fruit is delicious. Seriously though, do you think the little white cat will lose?”
“That cat is not a wind magic beast, it just has a keen nose.”
“What kind of magical beast is it then?”
“It’s a light magic beast.”
“So it’s a light magic beast, those are rare indeed. And what about you, what magical beast are you?”
“I can’t quite say, probably a spatial magic beast.”
“Spatial magic beasts, huh? Master said those are rare in the market. Do you think you can beat the little white cat?”
“Let me tell you a secret, I was a level 1 magical beast until recently. These past few days, after eating Black Snake Meat, I’ve advanced to a level 2 magical beast.”
“How can you compare your speed with a level 4 magical beast then?”
“Heroes are not judged by their origins. Can’t a level 2 magical beast compete with a level 4 magical beast?”
Fu Qiruo then looked back at the tournament arena. The magical beasts in the final were giving their all, as the outcome of the final was crucial; losing in the final was no different from losing in the preliminaries, since there would only be one winner, with the rest merely serving as a backdrop.
The stands were filled with cheers, applause, and screams. Wang Tianhao declared loudly, “My Wind Leopard eats a cow, five pigs, eight hundred kilograms of eggs, and two thousand kilograms of milk every day. Can anyone say it will lose? Shouldn’t it bring home a prize to help cover some of my expenses?” The crowd burst into laughter.
Zhang Xiong added, “Of course, that little cat isn’t even enough to fill the gaps between its teeth. Just squash it with one foot, save our Wind Leopard the trouble, and maybe even save its owner some food.”
Yu An, angered by the incident, said to Yu Fei, “The little white cat didn’t provoke them; it got hit and even got blamed. This Beast Arena acts like it’s owned by the Wang Family. Even their servants speak so arrogantly. We must find an opportunity to teach them what humility means.”
Yu Fei responded, “Young master should not confront them directly. After all, in the vast Kur City, it’s almost the Wang Family’s world. The saying goes, ‘even a powerful dragon cannot repress a local snake.’ Besides, with your noble birth, why stoop to their level? If the little white cat wins, nobody will have anything to say.”
“A gentleman is open and poised, while a petty person is always anxious,” Yu An huffed and said no more.
The beautiful host’s voice rang out again, “The little white cat crashed into the magic barrier and then head-on into the Wind Leopard, getting knocked back to the stone walls of the tournament arena. This can be considered a warm-up, loosening its muscles. Despite falling behind by only a few seconds, the little white cat rejoined the race, and after a long and arduous journey, it barely caught up to the Wind Leopard. This shows that although the competition on the track is fierce and brutal, the little white cat is truly a brave cat.
“At this moment, leading at the front of the track is still the Arrow Snake, constantly casting afterimage magic, making it elusive, over two hundred meters ahead of the Kangaroo King. The Kangaroo King, possibly due to being pregnant for ten months, lags slightly behind. It leans at a fifty-degree angle to the track, making strides in a straight leap, seemingly closing a hundred meters with each step to the Arrow Snake, yet never surpassing it.
“Currently, the race exhibits a scientifically rational state of competition, with the Arrow Snake and the Kangaroo King forming the First Legion, and the Wind Leopard and the little white cat forming the Second Legion.
“The Wind Leopard, appearing overly massive, perhaps having eaten too much today and not yet digested it, temporarily trails three hundred meters behind the Kangaroo King. However, one can imagine the immense protein thermal energy within the Wind Leopard; if it were to convert instantly into kinetic energy, the resulting power would be formidable.
“The little white cat closely follows behind the Wind Leopard, ready to overtake at any moment. It seems that after being hit, the little white cat has truly learned from its mistake, biding its time behind the Wind Leopard and waiting for the right opportunity to strike. It appears that in terms of intelligence, the little white cat may have a slight edge over the Wind Leopard.”
“Put in some extra effort, you beast, and if you win the championship, I’ll treat you to the finest meals and give you Spirit Gathering Pills to eat,” Wang Tianhao shouted at the Wind Leopard. Zhang Xiong chimed in, “Exactly, following Young Master Wang guarantees the best of food and drink, a fact I, Zhang Xiong, can attest to.”
“The contestants, clearly seasoned in competition, knew too well that one misstep could lead to total defeat. Thus, they entered a phase of endurance in the first and second laps. It was in the third lap that a climax occurred when the little white cat suddenly exerted its strength, catching the Wind Leopard off guard and overtaking it, sprinting towards the First Legion.
“As the little white cat surpassed it, the Wind Leopard snapped to, quickening its pace and closely following behind. In just a few seconds, the gap between the Second Legion and the First Legion was dramatically reduced to seventy to eighty meters.
“The figure of the little white cat, swift as light, drew near the Kangaroo King. Each time the Kangaroo King’s feet hit the ground, its speed dropped to its lowest, nearly allowing the little white cat to bite at its fluttering tail. Under these circumstances, the First Legion’s advantage was perilously at risk.
“Ah! The Kangaroo King became enraged; it began to take larger strides, each leap covering over two hundred meters, quickly leaving the Arrow Snake behind. It finally realized that its forbearance was viewed by others as utterly unsympathetic. Oh! My goodness, its momentum was too great; its feet even touched the vertical stone walls beside the tournament arena, giving off a sensation akin to racing on a track.
“Ah! It was spectacular, its body horizontal and aligned with its head and feet on the same plane, running along the stone walls around the center of the arena. What a majestic and powerful sight, truly deserving of being the front-runner in the Level 4 magical beasts final. One wonders if the kangaroo joey in its pouch felt the grandeur of this moment.
“In the blink of an eye, the little white cat and the Wind Leopard had overtaken the Arrow Snake. At that moment, facing such powerful opponents, it seemed to feel a sense of inadequacy. Ah! No, it too sped up. It was unexpected, but it left a trail of beautiful afterimages on the track, almost obscuring its real form. The spaces between these afterimages grew larger, and with such a blurred shape, how will the judges determine its exact finish time?”
“We’ve entered the fourth lap now, and the contestants have already showcased their best techniques. The Kangaroo King is in the lead, unmatched in speed and vigor, while the little white cat is giving it everything it’s got, but still lags by three hundred meters. It seems this gap is simply insurmountable. Normally, a difference of two or three seconds might be negligible, but against the invincible Kangaroo King, is there really no hope? This truly reflects the old saying: ‘Ten years of work for ten minutes on stage.’
“The Wind Leopard trails behind the little white cat, constantly increasing its speed, but still maintains a distance of several meters. However, have the audience noticed how unusually calm the usually irritable Wind Leopard is today? Could it be planning to give us a big surprise in the fifth lap as it sprints to the finish?
“The Arrow Snake seems to be running out of steam, frequently using afterimage magic to maintain its speed, but that’s no cause for concern. It’s less than two thousand meters behind the Kangaroo King. In these two thousand meters, anything can happen. Miracles often occur in the most unexpected moments, especially over such a short distance.
“Let’s see how the Kangaroo King claims the championship and takes home all the prize money from this event, along with the generous additional rewards from the tournament arena. But the arena is like a battlefield where fortunes can change in the blink of an eye. What fate awaits our contestants as they enter the final lap and the countdown begins? Let’s watch and see what ultimate techniques the finalists still have up their sleeves.”
Seeing the Kangaroo King’s clear advantage and imminent victory, Fu Qiruo asked Yu An, “The little white cat seems to be struggling, doesn’t it?” Yu An nodded and replied, “It has tried its best. The Kangaroo King is indeed exceptionally talented; you have to admire that. Today just isn’t the little white cat’s lucky day. But losing isn’t a big deal-it’s just a hundred gold coins after all.”
“The little white cat is still young and not a wind magical beast after all. It’s just not cut out for this,” Yu Fei said.
“It’s not meant for this line of work at all,” Alixin suddenly exclaimed loudly, startling the three speakers. Fu Qiruo felt a rush of urgency-why wasn’t Alixin afraid of speaking out now?
Alixin leapt out of Fu Qiruo’s arms, leaving Yu An and Yu Fei in awe. Despite spending a whole day with Fu Qiruo, they hadn’t noticed the even tinier little fellow he was hiding.
Fu Qiruo remarked, “Aren’t you afraid of being eaten by someone?”
Alixin responded, “I’ve advanced my magic to level 2, I’m not afraid of anyone now.”
Alixin stood proudly on the table. Suddenly, Fu Qiruo reached out to grab him, but Alixin disappeared in a flash, reappearing moments later on Fu Qiruo’s shoulder. Yu An exclaimed, “How fun! My little white cat would love to meet him; it would have a companion.”
Fu Qiruo, amazed, said to Alixin, “You really are impressive.”
“It’s all thanks to the Black Snake Meat, it’s a great strengthener! Without it, I wouldn’t have advanced to level 2 this quickly,” Alixin explained. “Even the Kangaroo King, as formidable as it is, stands no chance against me.”
Yu An suggested, “You should stand up for my little white cat sometime.”
As they conversed, a commotion erupted in the stands. Someone shouted, “What’s going on with that Arrow Snake?”
The trio turned to look at the arena. The Arrow Snake slowed down as it was about to complete its fifth lap. The strange sound of it cutting through the air grew fainter, and the gaps between its afterimages quickly shrunk from dozens of meters to just a few. Soon, its real body appeared, coming to a halt a hundred meters from the finish line.
While the crowd was puzzled, the Arrow Snake moved again, not by charging forward on the track, but by shaking violently, as if in a fit. It seemed gravely injured, with surrounding air waves rolling and energy fluctuating. The spectators felt the vibrations through the crystal windows, accompanied by echoing sounds, unsure of what had happened to the Arrow Snake.
“Could it be running until it’s vomiting blood? Such desperate effort for a race doesn’t seem worth it,” someone speculated.
“Or could it be pregnant with little Arrow Snakes, and the intense activity on the tournament arena caused a premature birth?”
“Whose beloved beast is it? They should clear the space.”
“This is bad; it’s affecting the final sprint of the final.”
None knew whose magical beast the Arrow Snake was, as the rules of the Beast Arena have always maintained confidentiality about the owners’ identities unless they choose to reveal themselves.
“Good block, now’s the chance for the Wind Leopard!” Zhang Xiong shouted, and everyone knew better than to mess with the Wang Family.
The Kangaroo King had surged to a point just four hundred meters from the finish line, nearly leaping to victory in a few bounds, when the Arrow Snake rolled into position near the stone wall. Seeing that the Arrow Snake was several times larger than itself and radiated a formidable magical force, the Kangaroo King knew getting too close could spell trouble. Though not afraid of injury, a collision with the barrier and a potential dizzy spell could cost it the championship.
Forced to adjust, the Kangaroo King shortened its strides and leapt down from the stone wall toward the inner side of the track, near the barrier. Just as it landed on the track, the Arrow Snake also rolled toward the barrier, causing the Kangaroo King to curse its bad luck at such a critical moment. With the little white cat rapidly closing in-now less than a hundred meters behind-a further tussle could jeopardize its lead. Could it be that the Arrow Snake, knowing it couldn’t win, also intended to prevent others from winning easily?
With a snort, the Kangaroo King thought quickly without missing a beat. It swiftly changed direction and leapt back onto the stone wall; only two hundred meters now separated it from the finish line, and a hundred meters from the Arrow Snake. “What tricks do you think you can play that will outpace me?” it thought. Summoning all its strength, the Kangaroo King bounded thirty meters high, the red finish line clearly in sight just a hundred meters ahead.
Just as it was about to overtake the Arrow Snake, a powerful whooshing noise came from behind, and a blast of air hit it. The Arrow Snake was suddenly knocked high into the air, blocking its path-it was the Wind Leopard that had pounced from behind, incredibly fast. The Kangaroo King’s heart sank; it hadn’t anticipated the Wind Leopard’s final sprint. The long body of the Arrow Snake did not stop the Wind Leopard but instead ended up in front of the Kangaroo King.
With each circle, the Wind Leopard’s speed increased. At the last moment, it demonstrated its formidable power, its speed nearly matching that of the Kangaroo King. Hindered by the Arrow Snake’s tumbling interference twice, the Kangaroo King’s speed decreased. As it made its final leap, the Wind Leopard had already surged onto the Arrow Snake below it. The Arrow Snake skimmed over the Wind Leopard’s snout like a gently floating rope, its mysterious and powerful energy wave seemingly tickling the Wind Leopard.
The Arrow Snake, by chance, collided right in front of the Kangaroo King. The Kangaroo King’s leap was too high, slowing its speed considerably. With the Arrow Snake blocking its path, the Kangaroo King hastily stepped on the body of the Arrow Snake and dashed towards the finish line. However, its direction skewed, further slowing its pace. The Wind Leopard, with its large body, had already taken the lead. With only fifty meters left to the red finish line, the Wind Leopard made one final leap, a move that was executed with ease, leaving no doubt about its championship status.
The pace of the Kangaroo King was disrupted as the Wind Leopard forcefully knocked the Arrow Snake into the air, charging at top speed toward the finish line. In the chaos, the little white cat fled. A sudden turn of events at the tournament arena left the spectators in shock, with no one left sitting in the stands. Everyone crowded against the crystal windows, their faces nearly pressed against the glass.
The beautiful host maintained her composure and announced, “We have witnessed an incredible scene on the tournament arena. The dynamics of the arena change in the blink of an eye, where anything can happen. The seemingly clumsy and honest Wind Leopard has surprisingly overtaken the invincible Kangaroo King, revealing its strength in the final moments and creating a miracle of its own, earning itself a glorious crown of victory…”
Floating in mid-air, the Kangaroo King thought, “The owner of both the Wind Leopard and the Arrow Snake must be the same person. These two magical beasts, inferior in skills, had set traps on the sprint track, clearly targeting the weaker magical beasts. But if they think they can bully me, they’ve got another thing coming. Hmph!…
“My child, as the saying goes, ‘the mother’s status is elevated by her son.’ This valuable lesson from thousands of years of court intrigue in ancient times must now be applied to us. I’m going all out today.” The Kangaroo King leapt into the air, grabbing the joey from its pouch and clutching it between its powerful hind legs, using all its strength to hurl the joey towards the finish line.
As the Wind Leopard floated through the air, tucking in its paws and ready to enjoy the lightness before landing to claim victory, it suddenly noticed a blur. A joey, with a whooshing sound, zipped over its head and landed firmly on the finish line. The joey stood on its front paws, its tail swaying towards the Wind Leopard, then quickly scampered away.
The Wind Leopard, seeing such a small creature taunting it, thought it was utterly reckless. Just a single stomp would turn it into a pile of mush. As it was about to let out a fierce roar to scare it, it suddenly heard the affectionate voice of the Kangaroo King’s mother behind it:
“My child, you are my pride, you are the champion, the level 4 magical beasts tournament champion, the sole champion of the arena.”
The beautiful host’s commentary abruptly stopped as the cheering crowd fell silent, enveloping the arena in quiet.
“That sneaky Kangaroo King,” Wang Tianhao exclaimed in frustration. “The champion isn’t that ant-like little joey. The champion is my Wind Leopard.”
“Playing tricks always has its limits. My son and I paid double the entry fee, and no matter which one of us won, that’s still a champion. What do you call that? That’s called double insurance.”
