- Chapter 133 - I'll Never Disdain You!
The taste was just as he remembered-soft and sweet, not cloying like cotton candy, yet sweeter, reaching deep into his heart and creating ripples that spread through his entire being. It was like indulging in a rich dessert.
Finally, he tasted the flavor he had longed for, like a wanderer in the desert finding his oasis. He kissed with greed and urgency, as if trying to pour all his longing into this one kiss, his lips trembling slightly. He had feared he might never taste this sweetness again.
The sudden kiss caught her off guard, but Zhan Niantong didn’t resist at all. Her heart raced, and with each passionate kiss, it felt like a gentle electric current coursed through her, making her body tremble in response.
The familiar taste filled her senses, and she couldn’t help but respond with her tongue, gently returning his kiss.
Her response made his deep eyes light up, and he kissed her even more fervently, as if he wanted to devour her whole.
The kiss finally ended three minutes later, leaving Zhan Niantong’s beautiful eyes glazed with a dreamy allure. Her breath was rapid, and a few pink clouds of blush adorned her fair cheeks, exuding the charm of a seductive little fairy. Clearly, she hadn’t fully recovered from the intensity of the kiss.
Xia Zhennan’s gaze darkened suddenly, and he felt a tightness in his lower abdomen. She was truly an enticing little witch! Even in his current state, he found himself uncontrollably reacting to her alluring demeanor.
Ah, ever since he got married, his little brother seemed to have a mind of its own, ignoring his commands. He felt utterly helpless about it!
His gaze was as scorching as the midday sun in July, fixed on her bashful face. Zhan Niantong came to her senses and saw his smug smile, feeling a twinge of embarrassment. She glared at him playfully, as if to say: “Hmph, you rascal! You’re injured and still so restless! This is a hospital room, not our home. How embarrassing it would be if someone saw us!”
Being glared at only made Xia Zhennan’s smile widen, thoroughly enjoying her coquettish glance.
His roguish demeanor made Zhan Niantong’s lips curve into a smile she couldn’t hide, though she pretended to ignore him. After all, he always caught her off guard with his sudden, playful advances.
Grabbing her wallet, Niantong said nothing and was about to leave.
Suddenly, a low and somewhat pitiful voice reached her ears, flying in like a gentle breeze.
“Wife, is it because my breath smells bad that you’re disgusted with me?”
Niantong felt as if a few clouds were floating above her forehead. Well, generally speaking, even the toughest man, when injured, would show his childish side in front of the woman he loves.
Listen to that tone-so pitiful, so childish-it sounded like a big boy whining to his mom. Yet, it was indeed coming from Xia Zhennan. If outsiders heard it, they might be shocked into disbelief.
However, having heard it several times, Niantong had developed immunity. She quite enjoyed this tone, and whenever he spoke like a big boy, her maternal instincts would overflow, making her want to be even more gentle with him.
Turning back, she earnestly assured him, “No way, even if you don’t brush your teeth for a hundred years, I wouldn’t be disgusted.”
As Xia Zhennan blurted out his words, he suddenly remembered he hadn’t rinsed his mouth for days, feeling a bit regretful for his impulsive comment. But hearing his wife’s sincere response, his heart warmed up sweetly.
He knew that no matter how he was, his wife would never be disgusted with him. That’s why, despite knowing his current physical difficulties, he seemed so relaxed, as if he wasn’t worried at all, because his confidence in his wife surpassed his own.
Her husband’s words reminded Niantong that she had forgotten to help him clean up. It must be uncomfortable for him, who loves cleanliness, to go so many days without washing. But perhaps what he needed more now was to regain his strength.
“Are you hungry?” she asked, deciding to help him clean up after he had his porridge.
“Hungry…” He was always hungry, including in that less harmonious spot!
“Then I’ll go buy some porridge first. Stay put and ring the bell for the doctor if you need anything,” Niantong instructed him twice, helped him sit up, placed a pillow behind his back for comfort, and then left.
The hospital was quiet at six in the morning, especially on the floor with the deluxe rooms, where there was hardly any noise or people. When she reached the nurse’s station, only two nurses were on duty. Niantong approached them, “Hello, is there a place nearby where I can buy porridge?”
Upon hearing her, the sleepy nurse immediately perked up. Recognizing Niantong, she smiled brightly and volunteered, “Mrs. Xia, let me buy it for you! I know a place downstairs that makes great porridge, perfect for someone with a fracture. Please let me help you!”
The nurse’s sudden enthusiasm startled Niantong.
Seeing her hesitation, Mi Yi realized she might have been too forward and quickly explained, “Please don’t misunderstand. I just want to repay you. My fiancé was on the plane that day too.” If it weren’t for Mr. Xia, her fiancé might not have survived!
So the nurse wanted to show gratitude. Though Niantong felt uncomfortable troubling her, she appreciated the gesture. “Thank you for your kindness, but I…”
“Please let me do this! I’d feel uneasy if I didn’t do something. Mr. Xia is alone now; you should go back and take care of him. Let me handle this!” Mi Yi’s tone was almost pleading.
“Alright then, thank you.” Since the nurse insisted, Niantong didn’t want to seem ungrateful. She took out a hundred yuan from her bag and handed it to Mi Yi. “Take the money!”
Mi Yi initially didn’t want to accept it but feared Niantong would insist on going herself if she refused. So she agreed, “Okay, I’ll go now and be back soon.”
So, Niantong returned to the hospital room in less than two minutes, only to find her husband leaning against the wall with his eyes closed, his brows furrowed in pain, a stark contrast to his earlier relaxed demeanor. It was as if he was being tormented by pain, and her heart ached as if a knife had been driven into it, leaving her breathless.
She sniffed, swallowing the sourness in her nose, deciding to pretend she hadn’t noticed his suffering since he didn’t want to show it in front of her or make her worry. Instead, she would offer him her brightest smile, hoping to share her happiness and ease his pain.
After composing herself, she deliberately made some noise with her footsteps before opening the door and walking in.
The man on the bed, enduring the torment with closed eyes, immediately opened them at the sound, looking towards the door. Upon seeing his wife, he instantly put on a smile. “Honey, you’re back so soon?”
Avoiding sad topics and expressions, Niantong was determined to keep things cheerful. She raised a bright smile and joked, “Because my husband is so charming, a pretty girl volunteered to buy porridge for him, leaving me with nothing to do, so I naturally came back.”
Xia Zhennan, with his sharp mind, quickly deduced that the only young women on this floor were at the nurse’s station, and he had no connections with them. Why would anyone volunteer to buy porridge?
Moreover, his wife’s expression seemed odd, and he was slightly alarmed, asking cautiously, “Honey, are you jealous?”
Ahem… Her husband’s imagination was running wild! Where did he get the idea that she was jealous?
Niantong’s expression grew even more peculiar, which startled Xia Zhennan’s strong heart. He raised his hand to swear, “Honey, I don’t know them…”
Seeing his anxious look, Niantong couldn’t help but laugh. “I know, I’m not jealous. I’m happy.”
She approached him and gently held his hand. “The nurse offered to buy porridge because you saved her fiancé. She wanted to thank you, to repay your kindness.”
Oh, that explains it. Xia Zhennan breathed a sigh of relief.
“Honey, do you realize how great you are? You saved the lives of over a hundred people on that plane, and you saved many families. People all over the country sincerely thank you, see you as their savior, their hero. If they meet you again, they’ll surely want to repay you, just like that nurse.” Though good deeds aren’t done for rewards, those saved, if they have a conscience, will want to give back.
“It’s not that exaggerated!” He chuckled at her serious expression.
Niantong wasn’t having his modesty. “It’s not exaggerated; it’s the truth.”
“I don’t care how they feel or think. I only care about my wife’s thoughts. As long as she doesn’t blame me and understands and supports me, I’m satisfied.”
“You’re my husband, so of course I’ll support whatever you do, but you must be well.” His well-being was her bottom line, her minimum requirement, and what she cared about most. She couldn’t imagine what she’d do if he wasn’t okay.
