- Chapter 117 - The Little Visitor Arrives
After hanging up the phone, Zhan Niantong turned her head to see the undeniable smile on the man’s face. She glared at him playfully, “Satisfied now, aren’t you?” Hmph, she knew his little schemes all too well-he was definitely planning for some alone time with her again.
With a casual gesture, Xia Zhennan wrapped his arm around her shoulder and led her towards the elevator, openly admitting, “Yes, very satisfied.”
So straightforward, not even bothering to deny it-this big guy! Though she grumbled inwardly, her heart was filled with warmth, and she couldn’t help but smile broadly.
He missed her, and she missed him too. He hadn’t been home last week, and it had been half a month since she’d seen him. She cherished every moment they spent together.
When it came to eagerness, everyone in the Xia Family was quite competitive, each one eager to make plans. “Honey, let’s go see the traditional Chinese doctor for some medicine, then grab a meal, and head home.”
“Okay.” As long as she was with him, she didn’t have to worry about anything; she could leave everything to him. But she did have another question on her mind: “By the way, what time are you leaving this afternoon?”
“After a nap.” Time was always so fleeting, only a few hours left.
A few hours were enough to satisfy her: “Alright.”
Back home, as soon as Zhan Niantong put down her bag, Xia Zhennan eagerly took her hand and led her to the master bedroom. “Let’s take a nap, honey! I stayed up too late last night, and I’m so sleepy now!”
Sleepy? Zhan Niantong rolled her eyes, not believing his excuse. He was someone who could be energetic all day after just three hours of sleep, and he had slept at least five or six hours last night. Now he claimed to be tired?
She knew his intentions without needing to think too hard.
But she didn’t want to expose his little trick, letting him lead her into the master bedroom and obediently lying down on the bed.
And there it was-the moment he lay down, his wolfish instincts kicked in.
“Honey, we just had lunch, and our stomachs are full. Sleeping right away isn’t good for digestion; it’s bad for the stomach. Let’s do some exercise to help digestion!” Listen to him, sounding so righteous!
But he truly missed her. Half a month without seeing her, and last night he didn’t want her to be tired. He was concerned that if she were pregnant, certain activities might make her uncomfortable. So he behaved himself, not daring to entertain any mischievous thoughts. Now that the results were out, he naturally wanted to indulge, satisfying his hunger and longing for her over the past half month.
He missed her, and she missed him too.
No longer shy, she let him have his way, allowing his hands to roam freely, letting him ignite little fires everywhere, and letting him peel away her clothes one by one. She even reached out to help him unbutton his shirt.
This rare initiative surprised Xia Zhennan for a moment, but he quickly recovered and sped up his actions.
But, oh dear, who could tell her that just when her dear husband’s rough hand slid over her flat stomach and grabbed the edge of her last piece of clothing, a sudden pain hit her abdomen, coming in waves, accompanied by a warm flow from her lower belly.
The sensation was all too familiar! Oh heavens, her period had finally decided to make its grand entrance at this very moment!
Her body stiffened instantly, and her small hand quickly grabbed her husband’s, halting his next move. “Honey…”
Suddenly stopped, Xia Zhennan looked at her face in confusion, only to see her smiling with a grimace that looked more like a cry.
He raised an eyebrow in puzzlement, but before he could react, his wife had already sprung up, grabbed her discarded clothes, and put them on in a matter of seconds. She then jumped off the bed, dashed to the wardrobe, and hurriedly pulled out a small package from a drawer before rushing to the bathroom.
Smart and perceptive as he was, Xia Zhennan immediately understood what was going on. He glanced at the now-closed bathroom door, then looked down at the tent pitched under his waist, shook his head, and chuckled wryly. Resigned, he got up, changed back into his clothes, and left the master bedroom. He went into the kitchen, and when he came out again, he was carrying a steaming bowl of ginger brown sugar water.
Zhan Niantong emerged from the bathroom with her face noticeably paler, lacking its usual rosy hue. Her period always visited with such enthusiasm, never letting her off without a bout of pain.
Seeing the ginger brown sugar water he was holding, her hand on her stomach froze, and a wave of warmth flowed through her heart, momentarily making her forget the pain in her abdomen.
Xia Zhennan placed the ginger brown sugar water on the bedside table, scooped up the dazed little woman, and settled her on the bed. He then handed her the drink and patted her head. “Here, drink this. It’ll help.”
Zhan Niantong took the ginger brown sugar water, her eyes suddenly misting over. She wasn’t sure if it was the steam blurring her vision or his gentle care that brought tears to her eyes. The usually spicy ginger brown sugar water tasted exceptionally good.
“Does it hurt?” Xia Zhennan sat beside her, his arm around her back, pulling her into his embrace. His large hand covered her abdomen, gently massaging it. His attentiveness hadn’t missed her earlier hand movements.
“A little.” Oh, he hadn’t mentioned it, and she’d almost forgotten the pain. But now that he did, it really did hurt again.
“Sleep. Once you’re asleep, it won’t hurt.” With that, he took the bowl and placed it on the bedside table, then pulled her tightly into his arms, ready to lie down with her on the spacious two-meter-wide bed.
“Honey, can you get me a heat pack?” She always used a heat pack to deal with her period, which helped reduce the abdominal pain.
Xia Zhennan paused his hand on her stomach, amused by her silly request. “Wife, isn’t my hand better than a heat pack?”
“Uh…” She had completely forgotten about this earlier. Now, his large hand was resting warmly on her stomach, and she felt no pain at all. Enthusiastically, she threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck and snuggling her head into his embrace. She cooed, “My husband’s big hand is ten times, a hundred times, a thousand times better than a heat pack. Honey, your embrace is so warm, so comfortable.” She lifted her head, her eyes sparkling like stars, “Honey, can you hold me while I sleep?”
Her occasional bouts of affection melted his heart into a puddle. “Alright.” He gently cradled her, carefully laying her down on the big bed and pulling the covers over them both.
With her human heater, Zhan Niantong felt much more comfortable. Like a little cat, she nuzzled against him a couple of times, finding the most comfortable position to curl up in. Then she remembered leaving him alone earlier and felt guilty. “Honey, I’m really sorry.”
He rested his chin on her porcelain forehead, his rich voice like a gentle feather brushing over her heart. “Silly girl, we have a lifetime together, no rush for this one time.”
Just as she was about to nod in agreement with his words, his handsome face lowered again, and his thin lips captured her delicate earlobe, his tone teasing, “If you feel sorry, then make it up to me next time I come back!”
His sudden ‘attack’ made her shiver slightly. Under his deep and tender gaze, she forgot to be shy and nodded lightly, a promise made.
With her human heater and a human heat pack soothing her stomach, the pain eased. Before long, the little woman who thought she’d be battling her period all afternoon drifted into a sweet sleep, her lips curling into a smile. Occasionally, a soft chuckle escaped her, hinting at the sweetness of her dreams.
It wasn’t hard to guess who she was dreaming about.
Meanwhile, the man in her dreams watched her sleeping face intently, unwilling to blink, whispering a promise in her ear, “Honey, every time your period visits, I’ll be by your side.”
When Zhan Niantong groggily awoke, the human heater beside her was gone. She sat up abruptly, glancing at the small alarm clock on the bedside table, its hands pointing to four.
Had he already left?!
She grabbed her coat and hurried out of the bedroom, hoping he hadn’t gone yet. But the empty room mirrored her heart.
He really had left!
Even though she knew this was the outcome, she couldn’t help feeling a bit down. Swallowing her disappointment, she headed to the kitchen for a glass of water, only to catch the familiar scent of herbal medicine.
Quickening her pace, she stepped into the kitchen and saw a medicine pot on the corner of the dining table. A heart-shaped sticky note was attached to the spout, reading: “Honey, be good and drink the medicine! Signed: Your loving husband!” It was adorned with a hand-drawn arrow piercing two hearts tightly together.
She couldn’t help but laugh at his childish drawing of the arrow through the hearts. The thought of him drawing it filled her empty heart to the brim.
Though he had left, his love remained, lingering beside her heart. Even the bitter, hard-to-swallow herbal medicine tasted sweet because it was infused with her husband’s love.
In her heart, she silently said, “Honey, I love you too! I’ll wait for you!”
