- Chapter 105 - Is Your Husband Gentle in Bed?
After finishing lunch, Mr. Gong had some business to attend to at his company, so he headed back.
“I’ll come pick you up later,” Xia Zhennan said, as he also needed to visit the municipal government, leaving the ladies to shop on their own.
Two young women, a lady, and a child set off to explore the mall. However, it wasn’t long before the little guy grew tired and bored, contemplating retreat. Just then, they spotted the entrance to the children’s entertainment city, and she quickly made up her mind, exclaiming, “Mom, you and Aunt Qiao go shopping, grandma and I will go play at the entertainment city.”
Mrs. Gong was more than happy, her smile wide and welcoming. “Alright, grandma will take you to play.”
Zhan Niantong had no objections to Mrs. Gong spending time with the little guy. It seemed appropriate, and since the little one suggested it, she agreed without hesitation.
Throughout the day, Mrs. Gong behaved normally, so there was no concern about the little guy noticing anything unusual. With that assurance, they split into two groups: two continued shopping while the other two headed to the entertainment city.
The shopping duo, Gong Xiaoqiao and Zhan Niantong, were quite successful, though the spoils were mostly Gong Xiaoqiao’s. Zhan Niantong was helping her pick out a pair of shoes. “Xiaoqiao, do you think these shoes suit you?”
Receiving no response from Miss Qiao, Zhan Niantong turned around to find her missing. Alarmed, she scanned the area and finally spotted her familiar silhouette at the men’s section in the distance.
Seriously, what’s that girl doing over there? As she approached, she overheard the sales assistant’s sweet voice, “Miss, buying a gift for your boyfriend? How about a lighter? We have some unique designs…”
Gong Xiaoqiao was intently examining the uniquely designed lighters, her expression a mix of awkwardness and complexity.
Curious, Zhan Niantong gently tapped her shoulder. “Xiaoqiao, who are you buying a lighter for? Ye Weijia? I can’t think of anyone else.”
“Ah…” Gong Xiaoqiao let out a startled scream at the sudden tap, turning to see Zhan Niantong and clutching her chest. “You scared me!”
Zhan Niantong rolled her eyes in disbelief. Her touch was light, wasn’t it? “Are you possessed?” She raised an eyebrow and gestured towards the lighters in the display. “Who are you gifting it to?”
A hint of unease flashed across Gong Xiaoqiao’s pretty face. “Well, I was thinking, Captain Xing saved me twice, so I wanted to buy something for him.”
“You’re giving Captain Xing a lighter?” Zhan Niantong couldn’t help but be surprised and bewildered. A lighter is a man’s constant companion, and gifting one carries significant meaning. If she remembered correctly, Xiaoqiao once mentioned that gifting a lighter to a man symbolized: ‘I won’t marry anyone but you!’
Seeing the astonished look on her friend’s face, Gong Xiaoqiao regretted her actions deeply. How did she get so mesmerized by those lighters without even realizing it?
“No, no, I was just browsing. I initially wanted to buy a watch, but these lighters looked pretty, so I took a look!” She quickly spotted the watch counter next to the lighter display and came up with an excuse, pulling Zhan Niantong along. “Come on, help me pick out a watch.”
In the end, she chose a uniquely designed men’s watch. As the sales assistant took it to be wrapped, her gaze lingered on the watch, her cheeks flushed pink and her lips curled into a sweet smile.
Remembering Miqi’s words from last night, Niantong couldn’t help but gossip, “Xiaoqiao, you seem to have a special feeling towards Captain Xing, don’t you?” Could it be that she’s hiding something from her, secretly developing a special bond with Xing Chengyi?
“Ah, no way!” Gong Xiaoqiao quickly jumped in to deny it.
But there’s a saying, ‘The lady doth protest too much.’ Her strong reaction only confirmed Niantong’s suspicions, so she kept her eyes fixed on Xiaoqiao’s little face.
Feeling unnerved by her friend’s stare, Gong Xiaoqiao decided to change the subject to divert her attention. “By the way, you and your husband have registered your marriage. When do you plan to have the wedding?”
Well, if she doesn’t want to talk about it, Niantong won’t press further. “I haven’t really thought about it,” she admitted, genuinely clueless about planning a wedding.
Seeing her friend no longer staring, Gong Xiaoqiao returned to her cheerful self. “Girl, if you have a wedding, I definitely want to be your bridesmaid.”
“Sure! But you’ve already been a bridesmaid twice. If you do it a third time, you might…”
“Might what?”
“Not get married…”
“Who says that? That’s just nonsense…”
Laughing and chatting, the two walked into a lingerie store. Zhan Niantong, realizing her bras were getting a bit worn out, headed straight to the counter to pick out some bras, while Gong Xiaoqiao was busy asking the sales assistant questions.
Niantong selected a few seamless bras she usually wore, checked the size, and without trying them on, went to the counter to pay. When she arrived, there were two beautifully packaged boxes on the counter. Gong Xiaoqiao seemed to have already made her purchase and, seeing Niantong approach, held one of the boxes up to her chest, asking, “How does it look? Pretty?”
This style of nightgown was perfect for someone like Niantong and Gong Xiaoqiao-young at heart despite their age, like little girls. Made of pure cotton fabric, it featured a large, adorable cartoon sheep on the front, with sleeves crafted in a particularly exquisite and beautiful manner.
Niantong nodded, saying, “It’s lovely.” This type of nightgown was always her favorite; her wardrobe was filled with such conservative yet cute nightgowns.
Satisfied, Gong Xiaoqiao nodded, placed the nightgown back in the box, and instructed the sales assistant to pack both boxes into a bag, handing one to Niantong. “I thought you’d like it too, so I got one for you.”
“How much was it? If it’s over three figures, I’ll pay for it myself.” Even among best friends, one should be clear about finances; she couldn’t always take advantage of her friend’s generosity.
“Don’t worry, it was just 99 yuan.”
“So cheap?!” Considering the store’s usual prices weren’t low, how could this nightgown be so inexpensive, not even reaching three figures? Was she being tricked?
“It’s end-of-season, so it’s on sale, naturally making it cheaper.” In truth, Gong Xiaoqiao was secretly laughing to herself: less fabric, naturally cheaper.
Oh right, she seemed to recall seeing an advertisement outside about the sale, so she didn’t think much of it, simply letting the assistant calculate the cost of the bras before carrying the bags out with Gong Xiaoqiao.
Linking arms with her friend, Gong Xiaoqiao’s eyes fell on the bag containing the nightgown. Her gaze turned teasingly suggestive as she struggled to suppress a laugh, asking, “Hey, is your husband gentle in bed?”
“Ah, why ask that all of a sudden?” Such private matters always made her shy to discuss.
“Oh, just gossiping,” Gong Xiaoqiao chuckled, her eyes carrying a hint of mischief.
“All men are pretty much the same. When you find one, you’ll experience it yourself,” Zhan Niantong mused, wondering if Ye Weijia’s betrayal was due to Xiaoqiao’s carefree attitude, leaving him waiting. After all, he’s twenty-three, at an age when impulses can be strong, leading to mistakes.
“Uh, maybe not right now!” Having just become single, diving into a new relationship would surely invite ridicule.
Seeing her expression, Zhan Niantong suspected Xiaoqiao had developed a fear of being hurt again, hesitating to love: “Xiaoqiao, don’t be like this. You’ve moved on and understood things, right? Don’t dwell on the past. If you truly meet someone worth spending your life with, you should bravely step forward and hold onto him tightly.” Ahem, wasn’t she hinting at Captain Xing?
Her friend suddenly turned serious, making Gong Xiaoqiao stop joking. “Yeah, if I really meet someone, I’ll be brave and seize the chance.”
The two girls continued to browse the mall, with Gong Xiaoqiao buying two pairs of shoes. As time passed, they decided to head to the entertainment city on the first floor to meet Xiaomai and Mrs. Gong.
The little guy was engrossed in a whack-a-mole game, oblivious to her mother’s return. Mrs. Gong noticed them first, “You’re back.”
“Yes,” Zhan Niantong replied.
Upon hearing her mother’s voice, Xiaomai lost interest in the game, dropping the hammer and turning to rush over, “Mom, you’re back!”
Zhan Niantong crouched down, taking out a tissue to wipe the sweat off the little guy’s face and body, her movements practiced and natural, as if she’d done it a thousand times. She asked casually, “Did you bother grandma just now?”
“I was very good, didn’t bother her at all! You can ask grandma.”
Mrs. Gong adored her clever and cute granddaughter, “Xiaomai is the best.”
Hearing grandma’s praise, the little guy instantly puffed up with pride, “Mom, since Xiaomai was so good, is there a reward?”
This little guy, after a whole day of fun, still wants a reward? Zhan Niantong was about to dampen her enthusiasm when someone nearby answered faster, “Yes.”
Gong Xiaoqiao picked up the little guy and mysteriously ran ahead, whispering something that seemed too secretive to be shared openly.
“Aunt Qiao, why can’t you say it in front of Mom?” Xiaomai pouted, still wanting to spend more time with her mom before being whisked away by Aunt Qiao.
Gong Xiaoqiao wasn’t bothered by the little one’s pouting; she had her ways. “Of course, it’s about the reward. Can’t let your mom know.”
“What kind of reward is so secretive?” The sparkle in the little one’s eyes showed she was intrigued.
“Remember I promised to get you a French King Cake? I’ve had someone bring it over; it’s at my place.”
“Why didn’t you bring it here?” Xiaomai whined, clearly frustrated. “I’ve been dreaming about it so much I can’t even sleep!”
“I’m worried your mom won’t let you have it,” Gong Xiaoqiao said, her reasoning sounding quite convincing.
“What should I do then?”
“Come over to my place tonight,” Gong Xiaoqiao finally revealed her plan to lure the little one to her home.
“But I want to be with Mom and Dad!”
Xiaomai was clearly tempted but conflicted. Her expression was so adorable that Gong Xiaoqiao couldn’t resist hugging her and showering her with kisses. “I’ve got lots of fun toys from abroad at my place-American, French, British… I promise you haven’t seen or played with them before. You can play with all of them if you come.”
“Alright!” The temptation was too great, and the little one finally nodded with delight.
Zhan Niantong didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Her little foodie was so easily swayed by a small temptation that she abandoned her dear mom. But with Mrs. Gong’s involvement, she couldn’t refuse and could only watch as her little treasure was happily taken away by Gong Xiaoqiao and her mother.
When Xia Zhennan arrived at the mall to pick up his wife and daughter, he only saw his wife standing at the entrance with two rose-colored bags, waiting alone.
Thinking of a certain possibility, he felt a surge of joy but pretended to ask nonchalantly, “Where’s Xiaomai?”
Zhan Niantong got into the passenger seat, a bit disgruntled. “The little foodie got tempted and abandoned us.”
Though secretly delighted, Xia Zhennan dared not show it and maintained a calm facade. “Don’t be mad. Let me treat you to hot pot to cheer you up.”
He hadn’t forgotten the compensation his wife promised last night. With the little one not at home tonight, everything was perfectly aligned for him to make the most of it! The first step to lure the little white rabbit into the trap: a delicious hot pot.
As soon as they got home, the wolf, eager for a certain unspeakable activity, spoke up. “Honey, why don’t you take a shower first?”
“It’s so early, only six o’clock.”
Xia Zhennan had already prepared an answer, his eyes roaming over her. “You’ve been shopping all afternoon and just had hot pot. You must have sweated a lot. A shower will make you feel more comfortable.”
She hadn’t realized it until he mentioned it. She sniffed her arm. “You’re right, I’m all sticky and smell like hot pot. I’ll go take a shower.” With that, she hurriedly grabbed her nightgown and dashed into the bathroom.
Standing there, Xia Zhennan finally revealed a sly, fox-like grin. The second step of luring his wife into the trap was successful! Next, he needed to get himself ready, clean and fresh. So he quickly grabbed his robe and dashed to the bathroom outside to take a shower.
