Spellbound Hearts - Chapter 95 - The First Signs of Possessiveness
Xie Yao was on the verge of tears, and when she shouted out her words, her voice was somewhat hysterical. Song Zhaoli paused in his steps upon hearing her, a flash of hostility flickering in his eyes. However, this hostility vanished in an instant, and when he turned around, his face had already regained its composure. He asked with a cold sneer, “You’re investigating me?”
Xie Yao was startled by Song Zhaoli’s icy tone but still gritted her teeth and said, “If you don’t want people to know, don’t do it.”
Xie Yao had expected Song Zhaoli to refute her. Unexpectedly, Song Zhaoli merely chuckled lightly and admitted frankly, “Indeed, I slept with the woman you mentioned.”
Xie Yao asked urgently, “Have you taken a liking to her?”
Song Zhaoli raised his hand and casually tugged at the collar of his shirt around his neck. “I’m interested in every woman I haven’t slept with yet. Since you love investigating so much, why didn’t you find out that I bought a seventy-million-yuan1 villa for a model who was with me before?”
Xie Yao was stunned. Compared to a kidney source or a job, a seventy-million-yuan villa was clearly more heartfelt. As the saying goes, a man willing to spend money on you doesn’t necessarily love you, but if a man is unwilling to spend money on you, he definitely doesn’t love you. But Xie Yao forgot one thing: this theory doesn’t apply to wealthy people. For those who aren’t short of money, you can’t look at whom they spend their money on, but rather whom they spend their time on. After all, for them, time is far more precious than money.
Looking at Song Zhaoli’s mocking face, Xie Yao couldn’t tell whether he was speaking the truth or not. Finally, she tried a supposedly clever tactic to test him, “Whether or not you’ve taken a liking to her, I won’t let her go.”
Song Zhaoli laughed indifferently, “Whatever, but don’t touch her within a month. My company has an important project that needs her to push forward. After a month, how you deal with her is your business.”
With that, Song Zhaoli turned and strode away. Watching Song Zhaoli’s back, Xie Yao was so anxious she was about to cry, but her pride as the eldest daughter of the Xie Family wouldn’t allow her to chase after him. She had already humbled herself as much as possible when they were alone; she couldn’t lose face in front of others.
Meanwhile, after leaving the lounge, Song Zhaoli raised his hand and fiercely yanked off his tie. Then, he took out his phone and dialed a number. When the call connected, Song Zhaoli said coldly, “Qiu Lin, have a few people follow Ji Xuan recently.”
Hearing that Song Zhaoli was angry, Qiu Lin dared not ask more, “Understood, President Song.”
Song Zhaoli added, “Choose a few skilled ones, and don’t let her find out.”
Qiu Lin replied, “Got it.”
After hanging up with Qiu Lin, Song Zhaoli stepped out of the hall, clutching his tie, ready to bend down and get into the car, when he saw Ji Xuan chatting with Yu Hui not far away. The two were clearly having a pleasant conversation. To accommodate Ji Xuan’s height, Yu Hui even leaned down a bit.
Seeing this scene, Song Zhaoli’s narrow eyes squinted slightly. Yu Hui, appreciating Ji Xuan’s talent, was smiling as he discussed a project from last year with her, “Were you in charge of that project?”
Ji Xuan replied neither humbly nor arrogantly, “Yes.”
Yu Hui smiled and said, “That project caused me quite a loss. I’ve been trying to find out who I lost to, and I didn’t expect it to be a young lady like you.”
Ji Xuan seized the opportunity, “Well, since you’re collaborating with us this time, I’ll find a way to make up for your losses from last year.”
Yu Hui raised an eyebrow, “Trying to trick me?”
Ji Xuan replied, “I wouldn’t dare. I genuinely want to collaborate with you.”
As Ji Xuan finished speaking, a smile curved her lips, and she was about to say more when her phone suddenly rang in her pocket. The words she was about to say got stuck in her throat, and she apologized to Yu Hui before taking out her phone to glance at the caller ID and answered, “President Song.”
Song Zhaoli was sitting in the car at that moment, his gaze cold enough to be intimidating, yet his tone was desolate and dejected, “Ji Xuan, do you have time now?”
Ji Xuan pressed her lips together, “Do you need something?”
Song Zhaoli replied, “I’m in a bad mood and want to come over to your place for a while.”
