Spellbound Hearts - Chapter 90 - Moved or Not
Money is scarce when you need it.
After Wu Shu uttered this phrase, her mind was filled with thoughts of “If only I had money.”
If she had money, she would take out ten million right now, slap it onto Liao Bei’s forehead, and with hands on her hips, tell him, “Pigsy drops the rake, I’m done serving you from today.”
But the reality was that she was humble and submissive, without money to support her, forced to bow under the eaves.
After Wu Shu spoke, Liao Bei sneered, “If you can’t analyze, can’t you find someone to help?”
Wu Shu had an epiphany, “Xuan Xuan?”
Liao Bei didn’t want to be too explicit, “Find whoever you want, but by tomorrow morning, you must give me an answer.”
With that, he hung up the phone without waiting for Wu Shu’s reply.
Listening to the dial tone, Wu Shu irritably punched the bed twice.
What is wrong with him?
Calling her in the middle of the night to help analyze an acquisition project?
Not that she understood it at all, but even if she did, it’s not right to disturb someone in the middle of the night, treating her like she’s not even human.
Wu Shu’s resentment piled up with nowhere to vent, so she picked up her phone and sent Ji Xuan a message: “Are you awake?”
Wu Shu sent this message to Ji Xuan without much hope.
At this hour, who else would be awake besides a freak like Liao Bei?
As the message was sent, Wu Shu was about to lie back in a big shape to sulk when she suddenly saw the chat interface with Ji Xuan showing the other party was typing.
Without thinking, Wu Shu immediately dialed a voice call.
Ji Xuan answered quickly, and from the tone, her state wasn’t much better than Wu Shu’s.
Both spoke simultaneously, “Why aren’t you asleep?”
A moment of silence ensued.
Again, both spoke at once, “Tonight I…”
Another brief silence followed.
Finally, Ji Xuan laughed and said, “You go first.”
Wu Shu laughed too, took a deep breath, and felt the frustration in her chest dissipate a lot, “Let me tell you, I was already asleep, but a freak called me in the middle of the night to analyze a project.”
Ji Xuan teased, “Wu Rui?”
Besides Wu Rui, Ji Xuan couldn’t think of anyone else Wu Shu would call a freak.
Wu Shu gritted her teeth, “Not my brother, someone even more freakish.”
Ji Xuan couldn’t help but laugh, “So more freakish than a freak?”
Wu Shu was amused by Ji Xuan’s words, but her mind quickly cooled down thinking of Liao Bei’s face, “By the way, what’s your take on the Bi Sheng project?”
Ji Xuan asked, “Why are you suddenly asking about this?”
As far as she knew, Wu Shu was never interested in project matters.
Wu Shu answered truthfully, “It’s not me asking, it’s that freak Liao Bei, calling me in the middle of the night to analyze whether the Bi Sheng project is worth acquiring.”
Ji Xuan was puzzled, “Why is Liao Group suddenly considering acquiring a real estate project?”
Wu Shu pouted, “No idea, maybe he’s sick.”
Even if he’s not sick, he shouldn’t be calling people in the middle of the night, disturbing their rest.
Hearing Wu Shu’s words, Ji Xuan thought for a moment and asked, “What exactly did he say to you?”
Wu Shu pondered and then recited Liao Bei’s words verbatim to Ji Xuan.
Ji Xuan paused for a few seconds and said, “Technically, I shouldn’t be telling you this, but the few words you just told me have some value to me. You can tell Manager Liao that the project isn’t impossible to acquire, but he needs to lower the price. I can’t disclose how much, because Song Group is also planning to acquire this project.”
Wu Shu asked, “Will telling him this harm you?”
She’s seen those business war dramas on TV, where revealing information before an acquisition is a big taboo.
Ji Xuan laughed, “No, the information I provided is ambiguous. You can honestly tell him that you asked me, and I extracted useful value from his words, so I provided him with valuable information in return, like an exchange.”
Wu Shu, who deals with models and celebrities all day, has never witnessed a real business war, “Are you sure it won’t be a problem? I’ve seen those business wars on TV…”
Wu Shu’s limited vocabulary left her unsure how to describe the thrill.
Ji Xuan smiled, “Business wars on TV: lawless and ruthless; real business wars: unrefined and shameless.”
Wu Shu didn’t understand, “Huh?”
Ji Xuan explained, “At Wansheng, where I used to work, two bosses competed for a project, fighting from afar. The opposing boss sent an intern to pour hot water and kill the money tree in our company’s lobby.”
Wu Shu was speechless.
Wu Shu couldn’t even describe her feelings at this moment; her worldview was completely shattered.
Ji Xuan anticipated her shock and laughed, “TV exaggerates, reality is just shameless simplicity.”
After chatting a bit about the Bi Sheng project, Wu Shu asked Ji Xuan, “What’s up with you tonight? Why are you still awake?”
Ji Xuan’s smile froze, and she frowned slightly, “Song Zhaoli came to my place earlier.”
Wu Shu hesitated to ask directly but couldn’t resist her gossiping heart, “Oh.”
Ji Xuan clarified, “Don’t overthink it, he came to mooch a meal.”
The more Ji Xuan told Wu Shu not to overthink, the more Wu Shu’s imagination ran wild.
Qing City is so big, with restaurants everywhere, does Song Zhaoli really need to come all this way to mooch a meal?
Was he really there for the food?
Clearly, he was there for the person.
Ji Xuan knew Wu Shu’s nature and didn’t want to mention Song Zhaoli getting beaten up, so she talked about something else, “Song Zhaoli wants to find someone for a fake marriage and asked if I knew anyone suitable.”
Wu Shu suddenly laughed mischievously, “Isn’t this just like a plot from a CEO novel? Saying it’s a fake marriage on the surface, but actually a real couple.”
Ji Xuan was speechless.
Seeing Ji Xuan’s silence, Wu Shu asked, “Did you agree?”
Ji Xuan replied, “What does it have to do with me? I have a boyfriend now. He just asked if I knew anyone suitable, and I told him I didn’t.”
Now it was Wu Shu’s turn to be silent.
After about four or five seconds, Wu Shu curiously asked Ji Xuan, “Do you feel nothing for Song Zhaoli at all?”
