Spellbound Hearts - Chapter 49 - Precision Strikes
In the end, both parties involved were taken to the police station.
Just before getting into the police car, Wu Shu cast a mocking glance at the so-called “righteous onlookers.” “Aren’t you going to the station to testify for this poor old lady?”
Righteous Onlooker A stammered, “W-We don’t even know what happened between you all. How could we testify for her?”
Righteous Onlooker B added, “Exactly. We just couldn’t stand the way you were talking to an elderly woman.”
Righteous Onlooker C chimed in, “The police are here, and there are surveillance cameras in this area. Why would we need to go to the station?”
Hearing their self-righteous justifications, Wu Shu’s eyes gleamed with even sharper sarcasm. “Oh, now you claim you don’t know what happened? From the way you were acting earlier, anyone watching would have thought you were directly involved.”
After skewering Righteous Onlooker A, Wu Shu turned her attention to Righteous Onlooker B. “Standing up for the elderly out of pure kindness? Please. I think you’re just unhappy with your own life and looking for someone to dump your frustrations on. Pure kindness? You’re as pure as mud.”
Having finished with the first two, Wu Shu shifted her gaze to Righteous Onlooker C. The moment their eyes met, C quickly turned away, clearly intimidated.
Wu Shu smirked. “You’re not even worth the effort.”
Satisfied with her verbal takedown, Wu Shu reached out to take Ji Xuan’s arm. “Come on, I’ll go with you to the station.”
Ji Xuan, covered head to toe in what was supposedly “black dog blood,” sidestepped Wu Shu’s hand. “I’m filthy.”
Wu Shu was undeterred. “I don’t care.”
Ji Xuan’s lips curved into a faint smile. “It’s not about whether you care. If you get dirty, you’ll have to clean up later. Waste of water.”
With that, Ji Xuan turned to the nearby police officer. “I can’t get into the car like this. I’ll drive my own car and follow you.”
The officer looked her over, clearly exasperated by her messy state. “Fine, go ahead.”
He then turned to instruct the other officers to escort Xiao’s Mother into the police car.
The moment Xiao’s Mother realized she was being taken to the station, her legs nearly gave out. She wailed, her voice thick with tears, “Officer, I didn’t do anything wrong! It’s that woman-she’s a bad woman! She was about to marry my son, but she was out there fooling around with some other man, humiliating my son. She-”
Before she could finish her tirade, the lead officer, visibly impatient, turned to one of the younger officers. “Go find the security guard for this complex and get the surveillance footage. Tell them it’s for an investigation.”
The younger officer nodded. “Got it, boss.”
Xiao’s Mother’s cries came to an abrupt halt. “…”
Meanwhile, Ji Xuan retrieved two bottles of water and a pack of wet wipes from her car. She quickly cleaned herself up as best as she could before getting into her vehicle.
Wu Shu, sitting in the passenger seat, looked at Ji Xuan’s disheveled appearance and felt her anger boiling over. Her eyes reddened with fury.
“I swear, Xiao Jin and his whole family are absolute lunatics. Thank goodness you didn’t marry into that mess.”
“Back when everything was fine with your family, I met her a few times. She was so eager to please you, practically worshipping the ground you walked on. I even told my dad you were lucky to have found such a decent family.”
In the end, both parties involved were taken to the police station.
Before getting into the police car, Wu Shu cast a mocking glance at the so-called “righteous crowd” from earlier. “Aren’t you all going to the station to testify for this old lady?”
Righteous Person A stammered, “W-We don’t even know what happened between you two. How could we testify for her?”
Righteous Person B chimed in, “Exactly. We just couldn’t stand the way you were talking to an elderly woman.”
Righteous Person C added, “The police are already here, and there are surveillance cameras around. Why would we need to go to the station?”
Listening to their self-righteous excuses, Wu Shu’s eyes gleamed with even more sarcasm. “Oh, now you claim you don’t know what happened? From the way you all were acting earlier, anyone would’ve thought you were directly involved.”
After roasting Righteous Person A, Wu Shu turned to Righteous Person B. “Just standing up for an elderly woman, huh? I think you’re just frustrated with your own life and looking for someone to take it out on. ‘Just standing up’? You’re so pure, aren’t you?”
Having finished with the first two, Wu Shu turned her gaze to Righteous Person C.
The moment they noticed her looking, they quickly turned their head away in fear.
Wu Shu smirked. “You’re not even worth the effort.”
Satisfied with her verbal takedown, Wu Shu reached out to link arms with Ji Xuan. “Come on, I’ll go with you to the station.”
Ji Xuan, covered in what could only be described as a mess of black dog blood, sidestepped Wu Shu’s outstretched hand. “You’ll get dirty.”
Wu Shu was undeterred. “I don’t care.”
Ji Xuan’s lips curled into a faint smile. “It’s not about whether you care. If you get dirty, you’ll have to wash up later. Waste of water.”
With that, Ji Xuan turned to the nearby police officer. “I can’t get into the car like this. I’ll drive my own car and follow you.”
The officer took one look at her disheveled state and sighed. “Fine, go ahead.”
He then turned to instruct the other officers to escort Xiao’s Mother into the police car.
The moment Xiao’s Mother realized she was being taken to the station, her legs buckled, and she began wailing. “Officer, I didn’t do anything! It was that woman, that horrible woman! She’s about to marry my son, but she’s out there fooling around with other men, making a fool of my son. She-”
Before she could finish her tirade, the lead officer, clearly fed up, turned to a junior officer beside him. “Go get the security footage from this neighborhood. Tell them it’s for the investigation.”
The junior officer nodded. “Got it, boss.”
Xiao’s Mother’s wailing came to an abrupt halt. “…”
Meanwhile, Ji Xuan retrieved two bottles of water and a pack of wet wipes from her car. She quickly cleaned herself up as best as she could before climbing into her vehicle.
Wu Shu, sitting in the passenger seat, looked at Ji Xuan’s disheveled appearance and felt her anger rising. Her eyes reddened with frustration.
“I swear, Xiao Jin’s family is a bunch of lunatics. Thank goodness you didn’t marry into that mess.”
“Back when your family was still doing well, I met her a few times. She was so eager to please you, practically worshipping the ground you walked on. I even told my dad you’d lucked out and found yourself a good family.”
