Revenge on the Ruthless CEO - Chapter 63 - Breakup
Xiaowei sat back in her seat as Yin Zhichen approached and said, “Murong Xiaowei, how about I take you to a movie tonight?”
Murong Xiaowei replied, “Not a good idea. I’m afraid of the dark, so I don’t go to movies at night.”
Yin Zhichen realized, “Oh, no wonder you were so scared when we got stuck in the elevator yesterday.”
That was how he managed to kiss Murong Xiaowei…
Murong Xiaowei playfully waved her fist at him and said, “You said you wouldn’t bring that up again.”
Yin Zhichen said, “I know, I won’t mention it again.” Feng Yanxin also approached Murong Xiaowei and said, “Xiaowei, are you free tonight?”
Murong Xiaowei awkwardly glanced at Yin Zhichen and said, “Yes, I’m free. Why?”
Feng Yanxin said, “Can you accompany me to the movies tonight?”
Murong Xiaowei said, “What’s with you two? Both of you inviting me to the movies. I’m not going.”
Feng Yanxin said, “Yin Zhichen, did you also invite her to the movies?”
Yin Zhichen said, “Yes, what’s wrong? You can like her, but I can’t?”
Murong Xiaowei, upon hearing this, said, “Yin Zhichen, what nonsense are you spouting?”
Yin Zhichen said, “I’m not talking nonsense. Feng Yanxin, tell me, do you like Murong Xiaowei too?”
Feng Yanxin said, “Yes, Murong Xiaowei, I like you.” Yin Zhichen said, “Murong Xiaowei, did you hear that?”
Murong Xiaowei was stunned. She didn’t know what to say. Feng Yanxin liked her?
She hadn’t expected it. She felt happy, very happy, but should she accept him?
Murong Xiaowei said, “Feng Yanxin, are you playing a joke on me?”
Feng Yanxin said, “Xiaowei, I’m not joking. I’ve liked you since the first time I saw you. Can you try to date me?”
Yin Zhichen said, “She won’t accept me, she surely won’t accept you.”
Feng Yanxin extended his hand earnestly, “Xiaowei, if you agree to date me, please hold my hand.”
Yin Zhichen took the opportunity to extend his own hand and said, “Murong Xiaowei, I hope today you will make a choice between us.”
Murong Xiaowei looked at them, feeling a bit troubled. She did like Feng Yanxin, but if it meant hurting Yin Zhichen… that’s not what she wanted…
But if she chose Yin Zhichen, she didn’t love him, and they’d often argue…
It would be torture for both, causing great harm to each other… After thinking for a long time, Murong Xiaowei lowered her head and said, “I’m sorry, I can’t choose.”
Murong Xiaowei’s answer surprised both of them, and they asked in unison, “Why?”
Murong Xiaowei playfully said, “No reason. I’m just not ready for a relationship right now, so I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t pressure me into making this choice.”
Before tears could fall, Murong Xiaowei ran out of the classroom. For the first time, she liked someone but had to give up on that person.
As she ran out, she clearly knew that by choosing to give up on Feng Yanxin, she would completely lose him, even though she didn’t want to.
In the classroom, Yin Zhichen and Feng Yanxin looked at each other. Yin Zhichen spoke, “Why did you have to fall for Murong Xiaowei?”
Feng Yanxin said, “Feelings just happen; there’s no reason for liking someone.”
Yin Zhichen, angered, said, “It’s fine if you like Murong Xiaowei, but why didn’t you tell me?”
Feng Yanxin said, “When I found out you liked her, I decided to keep my feelings to myself. I didn’t want my feelings to trouble you.”
Yin Zhichen said, “You’re already causing trouble. Tell me, do you plan to compete fairly or back off?”
Seeing how much Feng Yanxin liked Murong Xiaowei, Yin Zhichen wanted to back off to let them be together, but only if Feng Yanxin didn’t give up on her.
Feng Yanxin, struggling, said, “I can’t back off. I like her.”
Yin Zhichen said, “So you mean to compete fairly with me?”
Feng Yanxin’s answer was just as Yin Zhichen had expected.
Yin Zhichen said, “Fine, we’ll compete fairly. If Murong Xiaowei ends up liking you, I’ll step back. Conversely, if she ends up liking me, you should back off.”
After much consideration, Feng Yanxin said, “Okay, I agree. I think she’ll give us an answer.”
Yin Zhichen coldly said, “No matter the outcome, I hope it won’t affect our friendship.”
With a heavy heart, Yin Zhichen left, while Feng Yanxin thought of ways to get an answer from Murong Xiaowei.
On a weekend night, Mu Lan was blindfolded by Song Yan and led to a beautiful balcony with warm lighting.
Song Yan guided Mu Lan to a chair at a table filled with delicious food and candles.
Curious about the “surprise” Song Yan mentioned, Mu Lan sat down and said, “Song Yan, I can’t see anything with my eyes covered. Do you have an ulterior motive?”
Song Yan removed the black cloth covering her eyes, revealing a romantic and cozy candlelit dinner.
Seeing the beautiful scene before her, Mu Lan couldn’t help but exclaim, “Wow, Song Yan, it’s so beautiful.”
Song Yan sat down and said, “Mu Lan, this is our first official date, so I had to make it special for you.”
Mu Lan replied, “You could have taken me to a fancy restaurant; those places are romantic too.”
Song Yan said, “No way. When it comes to my girlfriend, I have to do it myself. Everything here was set up by me alone.”
Hearing that Song Yan did all of this just for her, Mu Lan felt deeply touched…
In fact, it doesn’t matter where they go on a date or where they eat; what she cares about is the sincerity. And clearly, Song Yan’s sincerity moved her.
Mu Lan looked at the dark sky and said, “Song Yan, you have to keep up this romantic attitude.”
Song Yan replied, “I will. For you, I’ll work even harder to be a good boyfriend.”
Mu Lan said, “Song Yan, you know what? It’s been a long time since I’ve been in such a romantic setting with a guy.”
Song Yan, surprised, asked, “Mu Lan, does that mean you’ve been to romantic places with someone else before?”
Mu Lan said, “Why? Do you think I’ve had something with my ex-boyfriends? Even if I did, what could you say? You didn’t like me back then.”
If he had liked her back then, she might not have accepted him.
Song Yan said, “I didn’t mean it that way. I just thought if your exes did the same for you, then this dinner might feel unnecessary.”
Mu Lan corrected him, “Song Yan, what do you mean by that? Why couldn’t I have had boyfriends before?”
Alright, she admits that she never had a boyfriend before – Song Yan is her first.
Song Yan said, “I didn’t mean it that way. It’s just, why didn’t you tell me you had boyfriends before?”
What is this? He was just aiming for a nice candlelit dinner, a chance to relive some romance, and she brought up her past with other guys…
Mu Lan, angry, stood up and said, “What do you mean I didn’t tell you? I didn’t tell you, but you never asked. Besides, if I had told you from the start, would you still have confessed to me?”
Song Yan stood up as well and said, “Mu Lan, I just want to clearly know if you’ve had boyfriends before. Is it that hard?”
Mu Lan said, “It is hard! Ask anyone; who wants to be interrogated by their current boyfriend about how many boyfriends they’ve had before?”
Song Yan, trying to calm things down, said, “Alright, Mu Lan, let’s not argue. I was wrong, okay? I won’t ask about this again.”
Mu Lan, angrily, said, “What? Now you realize you’re in the wrong? Just a moment ago, you were dying to get all the answers. Go ahead, keep asking. Besides this, we have nothing else to talk about.”
Song Yan seemed determined to upset her. If they couldn’t be a couple, they might as well break up.
Song Yan, equally upset, retorted, “Mu Lan, stop being so unforgiving. I’ve already admitted it was my fault. What more do you want?”
Mu Lan responded, “What do I want? It’s finally the weekend, and on our first dinner date, we end up in a fight. What is this?”
Song Yan said, “Mu Lan, it was my fault at the start, and I apologized. It’s unreasonable for you to keep dragging this on.”
Song Yan was bewildered-when they first met, she wasn’t like this at all…
Mu Lan, at her limit, said, “Fine, it’s my fault. I don’t deserve someone as intellectual as you. I think there’s nothing more to say between us; let’s break up.”
Hearing her mention breaking up, Song Yan replied, “Fine, let’s break up. I love you so much, but I can’t take your unreasonable behavior anymore.”
Mu Lan, undaunted, said, “In that case, let’s pretend we don’t know each other when we bump into each other. Goodbye-no, better yet, let’s not see each other at all.”
She grabbed her jacket and walked out with her head held high, leaving Song Yan regretting and kicking the table in frustration.
He didn’t really want to break up. He loved her, but he couldn’t handle her constant tantrums.
Meanwhile, Murong Xiaowei returned home to find visitors had come.
After parking her car, she entered her house and saw her mother, Murong Ying, sitting opposite Dong Minxiong.
When they saw her, Murong Ying said, “Xiaowei, you’re back.”
Dong Minxiong stood up kindly and said, “Xiaowei, can we talk?”
Murong Xiaowei didn’t answer directly but asked, “Mr. Dong, what brings you here?” Then she sat down next to her mother.
Murong Ying said, “Mr. Dong, my daughter doesn’t acknowledge you. You should leave.”
Dong Minxiong sat back down, clearly at a loss, and said, “Murong Ying, Xiaowei is still my daughter, and I want to bring her back home.”
Murong Ying scoffed, “This is her home. Where do you want to take her? You’ve never been a father for over twenty years and now you want to take my daughter away.”
Dong Minxiong replied, “She’s both your daughter and mine. She has Dong Family blood in her veins, and I have the right to bring her back.”
Murong Ying retorted, “As long as I’m here, you can forget about taking my daughter. If you want kids, find women out there to give you as many as you want. The one thing you can’t do is take my child away.”
Dong Minxiong insisted, “No matter if I have other children or not, I will take Xiaowei. I am her father, and I have the right to do so.”
Murong Ying challenged, “Oh? Now you remember you’re her father? Then why don’t you explain why you abandoned your own daughter for another woman? If you have any dignity left, explain to my daughter and let her decide whether to go with someone who deserted his wife and child.”
Xiaowei is the child she raised on her own, more precious to her than life itself. She won’t allow her daughter to leave with him.
Dong Minxiong, remorseful, said, “Ying, I know it was wrong to leave you two back then. I’ll do anything if you both are willing to forgive me.”
The mistake he made in his youth cost him his daughter for over two decades, which was the harshest punishment. Now, in the coming days, he wants to be with them.
Murong Ying remained unwavering, “Dong Minxiong, no matter what you do or say now, we will not forgive you.”
Murong Xiaowei, not wanting them to keep arguing, stood up and said, “Both of you stop arguing. I’m not going back with you.”
After saying that, Murong Xiaowei ran upstairs. Murong Ying said, “My daughter has made herself clear. You can leave.”
Hearing Murong Ying’s dismissal and knowing his daughter won’t come with him, Dong Minxiong stood up and said, “I’ll come by another day.” With that, he left.
Murong Xiaowei quietly watched from upstairs as Dong Minxiong left, feeling deeply introspective.
Meanwhile, Zuo Zhengqiao walked into an internet café and saw Qingmei engrossed in a game. He approached her and said, “Hey, how come you girls are into these games too?”
Qingmei looked back at him and replied, “I play because I want to. There’s nothing odd about it.”
Zuo Zhengqiao sat down next to her and turned on the computer in front of him. “I suppose that’s true. I just wonder how good you are.”
Qingmei challenged, “Alright, let’s have a match. Loser buys drinks.”
Qingmei’s challenge stirred Zuo Zhengqiao’s interest, and he said, “No problem, I’m sure I can beat you.”
Without further ado, they started playing, but after a few rounds, Qingmei came out on top each time.
Qingmei said, “Alright, you lost. Time to treat me to a drink!”
Zuo Zhengqiao, not quite ready to concede, said, “Let’s play a few more rounds. If I lose again, I’ll take you out for a meal.”
Qingmei thought for a moment and said, “No problem, but no backing out. Otherwise, it won’t be as simple as being locked in a bathroom like last time.”
Zuo Zhengqiao replied, “Yeah, I haven’t settled that score with you yet. Didn’t expect you to remember it.”
Qingmei conceded, “Alright, I won’t hold on to it. Besides, I haven’t told anyone about it. Can we just pretend it never happened?”
Zuo Zhengqiao asked, “Are you sure you didn’t tell anyone about that? Did Murong Xiaowei say anything?”
Qingmei said, “I think, probably… she hasn’t mentioned it.” Zuo Zhengqiao asked, “What do you mean by ‘think’ and ‘probably’?”
Qingmei said, “I didn’t tell anyone, but I’m not sure if Xiaowei did.”
Zuo Zhengqiao said, “Let’s not dwell on that. Are we playing or not?”
Qingmei replied, “Of course, we have to play. If we don’t, who will treat me to a meal? So we definitely need to play.”
After a few more rounds, Qingmei won again. She stood up, satisfied, and said, “So, are you ready to take me out for a meal now?”
Zuo Zhengqiao, impressed, said, “You’re really good. I’ve taken note of that.”
Qingmei said, “It’s not enough to just take note. You need to act on your promise. Are you going to back out or follow through? I’m waiting for your answer.”
Zuo Zhengqiao responded enthusiastically, “Okay, I’ll take you for a drink, and after that, I’ll treat you to a meal.”
Qingmei thought for a moment and said, “Let’s start with the drink, and we’ll do the meal another day.”
Zuo Zhengqiao asked, “Why? Do you not have time for a meal today?”
Odd, she has time for drinks, so she must have time for a meal, right?
Qingmei replied, “It’s not that I don’t have time. I’m just on a diet right now. Once I successfully lose weight, it won’t be too late for you to take me out.”
Zuo Zhengqiao said, “You’re already slim, and you still want to lose weight? What about other girls, then?”
Qingmei said, “Everyone has their own standards for their body. Mine hasn’t reached my ideal yet, so I need to keep trying. How can a dating expert like you not know this?”
Zuo Zhengqiao replied, “I might be a dating expert, but I can’t know everything.”
Qingmei said, “Alright, if there’s nothing else, let’s go get those drinks.”
Zuo Zhengqiao said, “Sure thing.” With that, they left the internet café together and headed to a drink shop.
On a beautiful morning, Murong Xiaowei arrived at the beach to collect seashells. Feng Yanxin, who was sketching nearby, noticed her.
The gentle sunlight fell on Murong Xiaowei, adding a soft glow to her beauty.
Murong Xiaowei picked up a shell and noticed someone watching her. She looked over to see Feng Yanxin gazing at her.
Feeling a bit self-conscious and flustered, Murong Xiaowei stood up and walked over to him, asking, “What are you doing here?”
Feng Yanxin stood up and replied, “What a coincidence! I’m here to paint the scenery of the sea.”
Murong Xiaowei glanced at his painting and observed that it was an exact depiction of the distant seascape. “You paint beautifully,” she praised.
Feng Yanxin said, “Really? I think my painting is quite average. I need to keep learning.”
Murong Xiaowei remarked, “You’re good at studying and painting-how can you do everything so well?”
It was apparent from her expression how much Murong Xiaowei admired Feng Yanxin.
Feng Yanxin replied, “I’m not as good as you make me out to be. There are still many things I need to learn.”
Murong Xiaowei said, “Guys like you, willing to learn everything, are really not common.”
Feng Yanxin responded modestly, “Not at all, I just want to do what I enjoy.”
Murong Xiaowei noticed some seashells nearby and exclaimed, “Oh, seashells!” She ran toward them…
“Ah!” she cried out as she stepped on a sharp stone and nearly fell onto the sand. Feng Yanxin quickly caught her, preventing her from hitting the ground.
Murong Xiaowei, eyes closed in fright, clung tightly to Feng Yanxin. Seeing her like this, Feng Yanxin couldn’t help but laugh.
