Psycho. Ghosts? Whatever. - Chapter 8 - Do They Really Think I'm a Patient?
By eleven at night, Bai Yuan and Liu Bansian had parted ways, both satisfied from their meal and drinks. Bai Yuan hopped into a taxi heading home, his mind swirling with thoughts.
“So, ghosts really do exist in this world…” he mused. “Is the world about to undergo a massive change?”
If it hadn’t been for the black dog blood, he wouldn’t have had any way to deal with that ghost. Initially, he thought the authorities could handle such matters, but after today’s events, he doubted conventional means like firearms would be effective.
“Now that I’ve got some money, maybe I should stock up on black dog blood at home?” he considered. The black dog blood had been somewhat effective today, and he couldn’t think of anything else that might work against supernatural occurrences.
Soon, Bai Yuan arrived back at his apartment complex. “Finally home,” he sighed, yawning as he entered his apartment. After a quick wash, he collapsed onto his bed. The solitude of his home was something he had long grown accustomed to.
“Got to get up early for school tomorrow, better get some sleep…” Exhausted from the day’s events, Bai Yuan quickly drifted off.
At midnight, however, Bai Yuan suddenly awoke, sensing something amiss. His gaze fixed on his chest, which felt as if it were on fire.
“Huh?” He quickly pulled up his shirt, revealing a blood-red ghost face etched onto his chest, exuding an eerie aura. Though it bore a resemblance to Bai Yuan, the ghost face was wild and terrifying, devoid of any human warmth.
Two faces on one body, each with a starkly different aura. Bai Yuan had become something of an anomaly.
Yet, instead of fear, Bai Yuan merely sighed, a hint of resignation in his eyes. “Seriously, dude, what do you want at this hour? Can’t a guy get some sleep?”
The only exorcism tool he knew of was black dog blood, which had proven ineffective today. Hospitals couldn’t diagnose this, and the Public Security Bureau would be of no help. He was at a loss.
The ghost face remained silent, like a lifeless object. Then, its eyes flashed with an intense blood-red light. In the blink of an eye, Bai Yuan found himself in a dark, shadowy space.
“What the heck?” he muttered, bewildered. “Have I been kidnapped?”
He surveyed his surroundings, barely able to make out a few meters ahead in the dim red glow. The space was empty, and the darkness beyond was impenetrable.
Bai Yuan glanced down at his chest, hoping to see what the ghost face was up to, but he couldn’t see his own body. “So, it’s just my consciousness here?”
With nothing else to do, Bai Yuan looked up towards the source of the light-a blood-red orb suspended above, casting its eerie glow.
As he examined it, a white object suddenly fell from above, landing right in front of him.
“Huh?” Bai Yuan’s mouth fell open as he scrutinized the white object, his expression turning incredulous. “This thing… it looks like a… no, a giant pill?”
The pill was about a decimeter in size, far larger than any ordinary pill, more like a pancake.
“Is this ghost face prescribing me medication? Do they really think I’m a patient?” He scratched his head, muttering to himself, “Man, this world is just too crazy.”
Even with his open-mindedness, Bai Yuan found the situation absurd.
Cautiously, he reached out to touch the pill. As soon as he did, his consciousness shifted again, and he found himself back in his room, the pill there with him.
At the same time, a strange message appeared in his mind. “Wait, this pill can enhance my physical abilities?”
He paused, eyeing the large pill with curiosity. The once burning ghost face had vanished into his body, as if it had never been there.
Bai Yuan considered the pill, contemplating whether to consume it. “Is this a reward for me? Or a trap?” He pondered the possibilities of what might happen if he ingested it.
“This thing seems to be living in my body now, so it probably doesn’t want to harm me, especially not in such a dumb way.” He recalled how the ghost face had restrained him in the bathroom before, without causing harm. It didn’t make sense for it to try and kill him now.
Finally, unable to resist, Bai Yuan stuck out his tongue and gave the pill a tentative lick. “Wow… it actually tastes good…”
Licking his lips, he decided not to hesitate any longer and quickly swallowed the large pill in a few bites.
“Ah, that’s nice…” he murmured, feeling drowsy as sleep overtook him once more.
…
The next morning, the blaring of his alarm clock roused Bai Yuan from his slumber. Stretching lazily, he muttered, “What a great sleep…”
As he stretched, his body emitted a series of satisfying pops, leaving him feeling incredibly refreshed.
“Huh?” Bai Yuan paused, noticing something different. With a quick push of his legs, he sprang up from the bed with ease. “Wow, I feel so light.”
He felt as if he were as light as a feather, brimming with energy and strength. Without hesitation, he dashed out of his bedroom, running around the living room, marveling at his newfound vitality.
Ten minutes later, Bai Yuan sat on the sofa, deep in thought. “Did that pill really work?”
He looked down at his bare chest, noting that the ghost face had vanished. “Hey, can you spit out some more pills?”
He addressed his chest, muttering, “It’s morning now, shouldn’t it be three times a day?”
Yet, there was no response.
“You’re ignoring me, huh?” Bai Yuan persisted, “If you don’t give me more pills, I might really get sick.”
“……”
“Still nothing? Don’t make me… beg you!”
“……”
Despite his pleading, the ghost face remained silent, not even showing itself.
“Fine…” Bai Yuan sighed, resigned, as he headed out the door.
…
“Man, I’m starving…” Bai Yuan muttered, clutching his stomach, feeling as if he could devour a whole cow. His enhanced physique demanded more energy than before.
Soon, Bai Yuan arrived at the nearby bus stop. The area was bustling with various food stalls-soy milk and fried dough sticks, buns and steamed bread-all exuding the vibrant energy of city life.
