Psycho. Ghosts? Whatever. - Chapter 27 - Did the Examiner Just Get Beaten to Death?
At this moment, Bai Yuan remained seated, his eyes scanning the theater for the Evil Ghost’s location.
“Could it be here just to scare people?”
A thought flickered in his mind. Considering this was an official examination site, it was unlikely that such a place hadn’t been thoroughly inspected beforehand.
There was only one plausible explanation-the Evil Ghost was part of the test itself!
Soon, the chilling aura he had sensed began to dissipate, signaling that the ghost was moving away.
Bai Yuan didn’t rush. If it was part of the test, it would inevitably show up again.
And sure enough, before long, he successfully tracked the Yin Ghost’s movements.
It was methodically moving through the four corners of the theater, not harming anyone, but merely exuding an eerie coldness. This confirmed his suspicion-it was there to increase the difficulty of the test.
“I need to intercept it ahead of time,” Bai Yuan thought, his gaze locking onto the far-right seat in his row. Quietly, he got up and made his way over.
“Hey, can I swap seats with you?” he asked the student sitting there.
“We’re in the middle of a test! Why would you-wait… Bai-Ge?!”
The boy’s initial irritation vanished the moment he recognized Bai Yuan. He shot to his feet immediately.
“You know me?” Bai Yuan asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I had the honor of witnessing your prowess the other day when you snatched that severed finger…” The boy’s eyes sparkled with admiration.
This guy wasn’t even afraid of Accompanying Ghostly Entities. As an ordinary person, the boy knew better than to cross him.
Bai Yuan nodded in acknowledgment, then took the seat, settling in to wait.
Before long, an icy chill began to creep over the area, signaling the Yin Ghost’s approach.
Unhurried, Bai Yuan reached into his pocket and pulled out a small bag of blood-rooster blood, to be precise.
He always carried it with him, just in case he encountered an Evil Ghost. He hadn’t expected it to come in handy today.
Calm and composed, he smeared the blood onto his hands, preparing for the ghost’s arrival.
The pungent scent of blood caught the attention of those nearby, but in the dim lighting, no one could see what he was doing.
Most of them simply assumed the smell was part of the test.
Meanwhile, the Yin Ghost continued along its route, moving from one corner of the theater to another.
To do so, it would inevitably pass through the aisle on the right.
As the ghost drifted forward, a blood-smeared hand suddenly shot out, gripping its neck in an instant.
“Gotcha!”
Though Bai Yuan couldn’t see it, his hands had latched onto an icy, solid form.
He immediately knew he’d caught the Yin Ghost.
This also confirmed something for him-rooster blood worked on ghosts!
Without it, no matter how strong he was, he wouldn’t have been able to physically touch the Evil Ghost’s body.
The Yin Ghost had no time to react before a barrage of heavy punches rained down on it.
“What the hell?! Nobody said this was part of the test!”
The Yin Ghost was utterly bewildered, unable to comprehend what was happening.
Bai Yuan crouched low, pinning the ghost to the ground as his fists pounded relentlessly. A glint of exhilaration flickered in his eyes.
His physical strength was no longer what it used to be, and the Yin Ghost, having been captured for the test, had its powers sealed.
In less than a minute, the ghost was severely injured, utterly incapable of fighting back.
The Ghost Face on Bai Yuan’s chest quietly emerged, its eerie grin widening as it bit into the Yin Ghost. With a grotesque satisfaction, it chewed and swallowed, consuming the ghost entirely in no time.
At that moment, a piece of talisman paper drifted down onto the floor before vanishing into thin air.
“Controlled, huh? No wonder it was weaker than I expected…” Bai Yuan straightened up, casually wiping his hands with a tissue. A faint smile played on his lips.
Attending a simple assessment and ending up devouring a ghost? That was an unexpected bonus.
With the Yin Ghost no longer interfering, the pass rate for the test-takers skyrocketed.
Soon, the horror movie screening came to an end.
“Sir, here’s the list of those who passed.”
A staff member handed over a document, detailing the participants’ levels of fear and the number of times they were startled.
“So many?” Wang Li blinked in mild surprise, his expression betraying a hint of disbelief.
Based on his calculations, having even a tenth of the participants pass would have been a stretch. After all, with the Yin Ghost’s interference, most people’s inner fears should have been much easier to provoke.
Yet here was a list showing over eighty successful candidates.
“This group has surprisingly strong mental resilience,” Wang Li remarked with a nod of approval. “Have them wait outside for now. We’ll announce the results shortly.”
The test-takers, each wearing a different expression, filed out of the theater. Meanwhile, Wang Li entered the cinema to retrieve the Yin Ghost, as it was still needed for subsequent assessments.
However, after circling the theater once, he found no trace of the ghost.
“Huh?” Wang Li frowned, muttering to himself, “Did it escape? That’s impossible. The Ghost Talisman’s control should still be active…”
He pondered the situation, his thoughts racing. As he approached a seat on the right side of the theater, his nose twitched. He caught a faint, distinct scent.
“Is that… rooster blood?!”
In an instant, Wang Li’s eyes narrowed. A suspicion began to form in his mind, though it seemed almost too absurd to entertain.
The movie was essentially the test paper, and the Yin Ghost was the examiner. Yet somehow, in the course of this assessment, the examiner had been beaten to death by a test-taker.
How was he supposed to explain this?!
“Who the hell is this outrageous?!”
Now it all made sense-why the pass rate was so high. Of course, it was because there was a lunatic among the candidates…
“I’ll have to look into this later,” Wang Li muttered.
Due to the Yin Ghost’s supernatural interference, the theater’s surveillance cameras had temporarily gone offline. Wang Li could only note the seat’s location and plan to question the test-takers about it later.
Outside the theater, the staff began reading out the list of those who had passed, prompting cheers from the crowd.
One by one, the names of over eighty successful candidates were announced. Some celebrated with joy, while others sighed in disappointment and quietly left.
Naturally, Bai Yuan, the “star of the show,” was among those who passed. He had successfully secured a spot in the Intelligence Class.
“You did exceptionally well. Your heart rate only spiked once throughout the entire test,” one of the staff members remarked, clearly impressed. Bai Yuan’s performance was undoubtedly the best.
What the staff didn’t know, however, was that Bai Yuan’s single heart rate spike wasn’t due to fear. It was because he had been busy pummeling a ghost at the time.
“Just standard procedure,” Bai Yuan replied with a faint smile, offering no further explanation.
Soon, those who passed returned to the school, while those who failed were left to cool off wherever they pleased…
