Psycho. Ghosts? Whatever. - Chapter 22 - Going Home to Pop Pills-Lots of Them!
Before long, yet another Blood Flesh Ghost was brought forward.
Perhaps it had witnessed everything that had happened earlier, because even before Bai Yuan got close, the ghost began thrashing about wildly, as if in sheer panic.
“Is this what they call a prodigy?” Wu Yuan muttered, his heart pounding with disbelief. How could someone provoke such a reaction without even touching the ghost?
Hearing Wu Yuan’s comment, the Blood Flesh Ghost squirmed even more violently, as if it could understand the insult. If it had a voice, it would probably be shouting, Are you kidding me? What kind of nonsense is this?!
Soon enough, the inevitable happened again. The Blood Flesh Ghost exploded into a mess of gore, just like the ones before it. No surprises there.
“Bring the next one!” Wu Yuan ordered.
Boom!
“Next!”
Boom!
…
In just half an hour, seven Blood Flesh Ghosts had been obliterated on the spot. The scene was nothing short of carnage.
“This is insane…” Wu Yuan stared at the aftermath, utterly at a loss for words.
After a long silence, he turned to Bai Yuan, his face blank with disbelief. “Do you have anything to say for yourself?”
Clearly, Wu Yuan’s mental faculties had been completely fried by this point.
“Well… do I need to pay for these?” Bai Yuan asked, his tone almost apologetic.
“???”
Wu Yuan’s eye twitched uncontrollably. He let out a long sigh before replying, “Let’s call it a day. I can’t deal with this anymore.”
“Are we continuing tomorrow? I think I can keep going!” Bai Yuan offered, his tone disturbingly enthusiastic.
“…”
Wu Yuan was officially done. “You might be able to keep going, but I can’t.”
“Let’s talk about it tomorrow. I need to go back and report this,” he muttered, turning to leave with his team. This situation was far beyond anything he could handle on his own.
As the group made their way toward the school gates, a man in his thirties stepped out of a taxi. His sharp gaze swept across the scene.
“Instructor Wang?!” Wu Yuan’s posture straightened immediately, and his expression shifted to one of deep respect.
Despite his relatively young age, Wang Li held a position of considerable authority. He was a specialist in handling supernatural phenomena, and his reputation preceded him.
“Old Wu, what’s going on here? Wrapping up so soon?” Wang Li raised an eyebrow, his tone half-teasing. “Your efficiency is impressive. You’re on the fast track to a promotion.”
“Sir, it’s not that we’re done-it’s that we haven’t even started properly…”
“Hmm?” Wang Li’s brow furrowed slightly. Then, as if a thought struck him, his eyes widened in realization. “Don’t tell me that anomaly from yesterday crushed all seven Blood Flesh Ghosts?”
Though he had been preoccupied with other supernatural incidents in Ping’an City, Wang Li had been briefed on Wu Yuan’s report from the previous day. In fact, Wu Yuan had only been able to secure seven Blood Flesh Ghosts for testing because of Wang Li’s authorization.
Wu Yuan’s expression turned bitter as he nodded reluctantly.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Wang Li said, his eyebrow twitching. After a moment of thought, he added, “Well, it just so happens I’ve got another Blood Flesh Ghost in my bag. Let’s give it another go.”
“But we’ve already gone through nine of them…”
“No problem. Worst case, we’ll just carve up the main Blood Flesh Ghost body again. It can handle it.”
“…”
With that, Wang Li led the group back to Bai Yuan’s classroom in Grade 12, Class 1.
“Never thought I’d see a windfall like this…” Bai Yuan muttered to himself as he sat at his desk, absentmindedly rubbing his chest. His mind, however, was elsewhere, calculating how much of the mysterious “medicine” Ghost Face might produce for him this time.
A single Blood Flesh Ghost wasn’t nearly as potent as the Weak Ghosts Ghost Face had devoured before, but hey, quantity over quality, right?
The combined mass of nine Blood Flesh Ghosts was far beyond what that previous Ghost Face could compare to. Surely, this would produce an even stronger dose of medicine!
As Bai Yuan was lost in his daydreams, Wu Yuan and his group re-entered the classroom.
“Hmm?”
His expression shifted as his gaze immediately locked onto Wang Li, who was leading the group.
Wang Li’s frame wasn’t particularly imposing, and his aura wasn’t as commanding as Wu Yuan’s. Yet, he exuded an unsettling, almost lethal sense of eeriness.
Wu Yuan spoke up, “Bai Yuan, let’s give it another try.”
“So, it’s him?” Wang Li narrowed his eyes slightly, scrutinizing Bai Yuan up and down.
“Don’t feel pressured. Just give it another shot,” he said, pulling a lump of flesh from his briefcase.
Unlike the previous ones, this piece of flesh didn’t writhe or squirm. It lay there like a lump of dead meat, clearly subdued by Wang Li’s expertise.
“A professional, huh?” Bai Yuan’s thoughts stirred as he quickly deduced Wang Li’s identity.
After a brief moment of contemplation, he extended his hand again and took the lump of flesh.
“Relax. Don’t resist,” Wang Li said, placing his right hand on Bai Yuan’s shoulder.
In an instant, a bone-chilling coldness seeped from Wang Li’s hand, causing Bai Yuan to flinch involuntarily. His gaze remained calm, but he glanced at Wang Li’s hand out of the corner of his eye.
Wang Li’s right hand was unnaturally pale, starkly contrasting with the rest of his skin tone. It looked as though he was wearing a glove made of human skin.
Perhaps sensing something was off, Ghost Face chose not to appear, retreating quietly into Bai Yuan’s body.
Without Ghost Face’s presence, the lump of flesh in Bai Yuan’s hand remained utterly inert, a stark contrast to the earlier reactions.
“Huh?” Wu Yuan’s jaw dropped slightly. He hadn’t expected this at all.
He rubbed his eyes in disbelief, as if trying to process what he was seeing, but no words came to him.
After a long pause, Wang Li furrowed his brows, withdrew his hand, and shook his head. “What a pity. No Accompanying Ghostly Entity.”
The moment those words left his mouth, everyone inside and outside the classroom froze in shock, their faces filled with disbelief.
After all that commotion, it turned out Bai Yuan was just an ordinary person? Was this some kind of joke?
“You don’t seem surprised,” Wang Li said, his gaze fixed on Bai Yuan with a hint of curiosity.
Under normal circumstances, wouldn’t someone in Bai Yuan’s position feel disappointed? Or had he anticipated this all along?
Hearing this, Bai Yuan, who had been calm moments ago, suddenly clenched his fists and shouted dramatically, “What?! I don’t have an Accompanying Ghostly Entity?! Nooooo!”
“??”
Everyone present was dumbfounded, their faces twitching in unison. What’s wrong with this guy?
But in the next second, Bai Yuan’s demeanor shifted completely. As if flipping a switch, he returned to his usual calm and said with a philosophical air, “You know, life is just a series of ups and downs… and downs and downs and downs. All we can do is accept it with grace.”
“…”
Wang Li’s mouth twitched. After a long pause, he managed to say, “Well, at least you’ve got a good mindset.”
“Then can I get some more of that flesh as a reward? My hands are itching to squish something.”
“No,” Wang Li replied flatly, shutting him down without hesitation. What kind of nonsense was this?
Although Blood Flesh Ghosts could be divided and used repeatedly, they weren’t infinite. It wasn’t something he could just hand out on a whim.
Wang Li’s sharp gaze returned to Bai Yuan. “But I am curious. How exactly did you manage it? Even I can’t crush these things.”
“Maybe I’ve got strong hands,” Bai Yuan replied nonchalantly.
“…”
Wang Li shook his head, deciding not to press further.
In this strange era, anomalies were bound to appear, but without an Accompanying Ghostly Entity, one would always remain unremarkable.
“Let’s go,” said Wang Li, glancing at Wu Yuan before continuing, “It’s time to awaken the Accompanying Ghostly Entities for the others.”
With that, the group left Class 3-1, no longer paying any attention to Bai Yuan.
The rest of the onlookers exchanged varied expressions before dispersing as well. After all that commotion, it turned out to be nothing more than a misunderstanding…
“Bai-Ge…” Zhou Han hesitated, wanting to offer some comfort, worried that Bai Yuan might not be able to handle the disappointment.
“I’m fine,” Bai Yuan replied, shaking his head with a calm expression.
Though he lacked an Accompanying Ghostly Entity, he had something far more terrifying-a real Evil Ghost.
“That’s the Bai-Ge I know!” Zhou Han gave him a thumbs-up, then added, “It’s no big deal if you don’t have an Accompanying Ghostly Entity. We can always find other ways to improve.”
“You’re absolutely right!” Bai Yuan nodded earnestly and declared, “I’ll go home and start popping pills. Lots of them!”
With that, he stood up and walked out of the classroom, ready to head home and wait for the Ghost Face to produce more of its mysterious medicine.
“Uh…” Zhou Han froze in place, a flicker of concern crossing his face.
Has he really lost it?
