Psycho. Ghosts? Whatever. - Chapter 18 - Official Announcement
The next morning, Bai Yuan yawned, feeling the effects of last night’s events that had deprived him of a good night’s rest. Most of the students were equally exhausted, not just from lack of sleep but from the psychological terror they had experienced. For many, it was their first time seeing a dead body, let alone encountering a supernatural event. Those who managed to sleep were likely the ones with nerves of steel.
“Bai-Ge, do you think our incident will blow up online too?” Gao Yi, one of the dorm mates, asked as he approached.
Having read about so many bizarre incidents online, none of them had expected to become the protagonists of one themselves.
“That depends on whether anyone uploads it,” Bai Yuan shrugged. “But with so many supernatural stories online already, ours might not make much of a splash.”
Yu Yong, another dorm mate, chimed in nonchalantly, “Who cares, as long as we survive.”
“Are you sure we will?” Gao Yi’s voice still carried a hint of fear, causing everyone to shiver in unison. They weren’t convinced that staying away from the dorm would keep them safe, especially with the Embroidered Shoes incident as a precedent. You might think it’s gone, but it could be right beside you…
“Stay optimistic,” Bai Yuan shrugged again. “Besides, with so many people in the dorm, it might not target you.”
“True,” Yu Yong nodded, feeling slightly relieved.
“Do you know who the deceased was?” Another dorm mate joined the conversation.
Everyone shook their heads. The students had been too terrified to look at the face of the corpse. Bai Yuan, however, had the guts to take a closer look, but unfortunately, he didn’t recognize the person.
“I found out; it was Peng Chen from Class Three,” Gao Yi whispered, looking around cautiously. “His roommates didn’t even know he left the dorm, and the door was never opened.”
This only reinforced their belief that it was a supernatural event.
“I’m thinking of going home to study for a while,” Yu Yong said, his face pale with fear. “Staying in the dorm, you never know when you might die.”
“What about you guys?”
“I’m doing the same. I talked to my parents last night, and they’ll pick me up this morning.”
“Bai-Ge, are you going home or staying on campus?” Zhou Han asked, looking at Bai Yuan.
“Me? I’ll head home first,” Bai Yuan replied, not wanting to stay in the dorm any longer. If he were targeted, he wasn’t confident he could survive.
“Alright, let’s go home together then.”
“??”
Bai Yuan’s mouth twitched. “Aren’t you going back to your own home?”
“Nope!” Zhou Han’s eyes were resolute, having decided to stick close to Bai Yuan.
“But two guys living together isn’t exactly ideal…” Bai Yuan sighed. “It might affect my reputation.”
“My parents give me three thousand a month for living expenses, and I can’t spend it all…”
“Say no more, you’re coming with me!”
“??”
Zhou Han’s mouth hung open. “Bro, I thought you didn’t like taking money from others?”
“Is this charity? I’m protecting you!” Bai Yuan declared righteously. “Charging a protection fee isn’t too much, right?”
“Not at all, not at all!” Zhou Han quickly shook his head.
Students began leaving the gym, heading towards their classrooms. Of course, they weren’t going to study. After such an ordeal, focusing on studies would be a superhuman feat. They were planning to talk to their teachers and request to go home. The school was no longer a place they could stay.
Given the circumstances, the school didn’t stop them. If anything else happened, no one could bear the responsibility.
By noon, Bai Yuan and Zhou Han, laden with bags, returned to Bai Yuan’s home.
“Bro, I’ve told my parents I’ll be studying with you for a while,” Zhou Han said, comfortably sprawled on the sofa. “I can even help you with your studies.”
“Yeah, right.”
Soon, the two settled into a homebound routine at Bai Yuan’s place. Although the pattern of supernatural events was unclear, logically speaking, as long as they didn’t wander around, the chances of encountering one were slim. Unless they were really unlucky…
A week passed in a blur. Fortunately, none of those involved in the dormitory incident had any further trouble, meaning no one was targeted by the ghost. However, online reports of supernatural events were rampant, and the authorities were struggling to keep a lid on them. The spread of these terrifying stories was causing nationwide panic.
Some speculated that the authorities had been overtaken by Evil Ghosts, which explained their lack of response. But at noon today, an official announcement spread across the nation, causing a huge stir!
“Bai-Ge, come quick! The authorities have released a statement!” Zhou Han called out excitedly from his laptop.
Hearing this, Bai Yuan came over, curiosity piqued. The two of them read the announcement intently, then exchanged glances, falling into a contemplative silence.
The authorities had acknowledged a slight change in the world, advising people to work and study from home as much as possible and to avoid going out at night. They also assured the public not to panic, as they were actively dealing with these special incidents. Additionally, a special hotline was set up for reporting supernatural occurrences.
“What do you think, bro?”
“Seems like things are pretty serious…” Bai Yuan mused, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. The announcement was understated, but it was clear that these supernatural events weren’t going away anytime soon, or there wouldn’t have been a need for such a statement.
“Let’s just keep laying low for now.” Bai Yuan glanced at the rooster blood nearby, muttering to himself, “See if you can find any news about people getting possessed in Ping’an City.”
Fierce Ghosts were deadly, but the Weak Ghosts seemed to only drive people mad without causing death. His plan was to use the Weak Ghosts to trade with the ghost face for medicine, gradually increasing his strength. While he wasn’t afraid of ghosts, he wasn’t about to seek out a Fierce Ghost either-what if he couldn’t handle it?
“So the supernatural is really taking over the world, and even the authorities can’t handle it…”
He had hoped the authorities would quickly suppress the supernatural, allowing him to return to his normal life and occasionally capture Weak Ghosts for profit and medicine. But now it seemed his optimistic plans were dashed.
