Psycho. Ghosts? Whatever. - Chapter 17 - Uncle, It's Time for My Night Run!
Jiang Cheng had assumed the second floor would be deserted by now, but was surprised to find some brave souls still there.
“Students, please leave the scene immediately…”
As a security officer approached to urge the two to leave, Bai Yuan suddenly turned around and spotted Jiang Cheng.
“Uncle Jiang, we meet again?”
“It’s you, kid?!”
Jiang Cheng instantly recognized Bai Yuan, the same person who had reported a case at the Public Security Bureau not long ago… claiming to be mentally unstable.
“Zhang, don’t bother asking him to leave. I actually have a few questions for him.”
Jiang Cheng’s gaze shifted to Zhou Han, and he continued, “Why don’t you leave first, student?”
“Where Bai-Ge goes, I go!”
Zhou Han stood firm, determined to stick close to Bai Yuan.
“…”
Jiang Cheng said nothing further and instructed his team, “Zhang, investigate the scene, but don’t touch the body. Notify the coroner to come.”
“Shall we have a chat?”
He turned his attention to Bai Yuan, hoping to gather some information.
The students were already terrified, likely not in a state to be questioned, but Bai Yuan was different. He remained calm throughout, almost making Jiang Cheng suspect he might be the culprit…
“Sure.”
Bai Yuan led Zhou Han to the stairwell.
“Can you tell me exactly what happened?”
Jiang Cheng’s gaze fixed on Bai Yuan, intrigued by the composure of a high school student. Was this the confidence of someone mentally unstable?
“I’m not the first to see the body.”
Bai Yuan replied calmly, “I only know that when the dorm supervisor shouted, the other students were startled and left their dorms. That’s when I saw the body.”
“That’s it?”
Jiang Cheng was slightly taken aback. “No signs of struggle or sounds of fighting before the body appeared?”
“None at all.”
Bai Yuan shook his head. “The dormitory was completely silent until the supervisor’s shout.”
“That’s quite bizarre.”
Jiang Cheng’s gaze remained on Bai Yuan, pondering aloud, “Bai Yuan, let’s make a bold assumption. If you were the killer, how would you achieve this?”
He wasn’t just asking; he had a suspicion. Could this student be the killer? His composure was almost unnaturally strong…
“Uncle Jiang, stop testing me.”
Bai Yuan sighed, “I don’t even know this person. Why would I attack someone randomly? Do you really think I’m mentally unstable?”
“Uh… aren’t you?”
“…”
Bai Yuan was speechless. “It’s really not my doing. I was with Zhou Han and the others in the dorm the whole time.”
“Then this incident is quite mysterious.”
Jiang Cheng furrowed his brow, unable to make sense of it.
Bai Yuan’s expression shifted, and he spoke with a hint of insight, “Uncle Jiang, haven’t you encountered similar strange incidents recently?”
“Hmm? What do you mean?”
“Uncle Jiang, don’t pretend.”
Bai Yuan smirked, “These kinds of stories are all over the internet now, and you can’t suppress them. Do you think we don’t go online?”
“Honestly, what’s the current situation?”
“…”
Jiang Cheng shook his head, “I’m just a captain at the Public Security Bureau. I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
“Is it really that confidential?”
Bai Yuan wasn’t surprised. The authorities would definitely keep such matters under wraps, not allowing them to spread, especially among officials.
He now believed that Jiang Cheng had listened to his report because he genuinely believed him… Perhaps the authorities had already encountered the supernatural before he did.
“Alright, if there’s nothing else, you should leave.”
Jiang Cheng glanced at the body in the hallway, ready to handle the situation.
“Uncle Jiang, you won’t accomplish much.”
Bai Yuan shook his head, “My suggestion is to label this case as a supernatural incident and let the professionals handle it.”
Jiang Cheng asked, “Are you so sure?”
Bai Yuan was about to respond when his expression suddenly changed, “Uncle, it’s time for my night run!”
With that, he grabbed Zhou Han and quickly headed downstairs…
“Night run?”
Jiang Cheng was momentarily stunned. It’s the middle of the night, who’s going for a run?
“Definitely a mental case…”
He muttered, unable to comprehend Bai Yuan’s thinking.
But at that moment, the hallway lights began to flicker rapidly, creating an eerie and terrifying atmosphere once more.
“Damn…”
Jiang Cheng stared at the unsettling scene, recalling Bai Yuan’s hasty departure, and suddenly understood.
Running away is running away; calling it a night run!
“Captain, what do we do?”
The security officers were also filled with fear, unable to handle such supernatural events.
And then, their bodies trembled again. In the flickering lights, they saw a white figure suddenly appear at the end of the hallway…
“Damn! What else can we do?!”
Jiang Cheng felt his hair stand on end, as if being watched, and shouted, “Everyone, join me… for a night run!”
“…”
The other security officers immediately understood and decisively left the hallway.
Soon, everyone evacuated to the ground floor, joining the other students, their eyes filled with relief.
“Captain Jiang, why are you all out here? Is the situation resolved?”
The school leadership, unaware of the specifics, quickly asked.
“Don’t enter the dormitory building tonight.”
Jiang Cheng’s expression was serious, “Arrange for the students to stay away from this building.”
He looked at the dormitory, feeling a sense of inexplicable fear.
Who would have thought that a seemingly ordinary student dormitory would harbor a ghost?
“Uncle Jiang, notify the professionals.”
Bai Yuan reminded, “There’s no need for ordinary people to risk their lives.”
If it were a harmless Weak Ghost, he might have tried to confront it, but one that kills? No thanks…
“Aren’t you a professional?”
Jiang Cheng looked at Bai Yuan, realizing that his actions had saved them all.
“If I were, I wouldn’t have reported the case in the first place…”
Bai Yuan was exasperated. He could only predict, but when it came to action, he was basically a sitting duck.
“…”
Jiang Cheng acknowledged Bai Yuan’s self-awareness and sighed, then stepped aside to make a phone call.
Bai Yuan’s mind raced. Did the authorities really have professionals?
“Bai-Ge, was that really…?”
Zhou Han still had a trace of fear, shocked by how close he had been to the ghost.
“It’s not a big deal now.”
Bai Yuan nodded, smiling, “With me here, there’s no surprise.”
Though he couldn’t fight, he could certainly run fast…
After a while, Jiang Cheng returned from the call and began organizing the sealing of the dormitory building.
The school could only arrange for the students to stay in the gymnasium, as there was nowhere else to go at this hour.
A terrifying incident had temporarily come to a close.
