Peerless Demon Immortal - Chapter 5 - A New Enemy
The two demon beasts spent nearly a month in this ambiguous relationship.
Of course, the ape spirit’s injuries had long since healed, but the caterpillar stubbornly guarded the hole, making it impossible for him to leave. He knew that if he ventured out and was attacked by the caterpillar again, he might not be lucky enough to fall into another hole.
However, after nearly a month of cohabitation, the ape spirit realized that the caterpillar no longer harbored any hostility towards him. Even so, he didn’t dare to take any risks.
One day, while the ape spirit was cultivating at noon, a long-lost killing intent enveloped him, snapping him out of his meditation. He opened his eyes and warily looked towards the entrance of the hole, thinking the caterpillar was about to attack him again.
Outside, the caterpillar, also in the midst of cultivation, was startled awake by the same killing intent. His spines stood on end, and his blood-red eyes scanned the surroundings. He released his own aura, hoping to scare the intruder away. In this area, he was confident in his strength. However, this time, his plan backfired.
When the caterpillar released his aura, the killing intent not only didn’t weaken but grew stronger. Clearly, his actions had only drawn the enemy closer.
The caterpillar’s actions had thoroughly angered the intruder. His blood-red eyes glowed faintly. Over the past month, cultivating near the ape spirit had brought him many benefits. Each time the ape spirit absorbed the sun and moon essence, the caterpillar would also absorb some, greatly improving his speed and efficiency. This was the reason for his change in attitude towards the ape spirit.
The other demon beast didn’t keep the caterpillar waiting long. Soon, with a rustling sound, a massive figure appeared before him.
It was a giant snake. The snake’s head alone was as thick as the caterpillar’s waist, and its body seemed endless, at least thirty meters long. Its green eyes glowed coldly, and its black tongue flicked in and out. The purple-black scales reflected the sunlight with a faint metallic sheen, indicating that the snake’s body was nearly impenetrable.
The caterpillar’s momentum was immediately suppressed upon seeing the giant snake. Though his body was quite large, it was insignificant compared to the snake. Before reaching the stage where they could transform, demon beasts’ strength could often be gauged by their size. Clearly, the snake’s strength far surpassed the caterpillar’s, and it seemed close to forming a demon core.
The giant snake looked at the caterpillar with disdain and attacked without warning. The sudden strike caught the caterpillar off guard.
Fortunately, having survived in the Demon Forest filled with demon beasts, the caterpillar had developed considerable strength and intelligence. Seeing the two gleaming fangs, he rolled to the side at the last moment, narrowly avoiding the attack.
The giant snake retracted its head, a hint of surprise in its eyes. It hadn’t expected the caterpillar to dodge its strike. However, it didn’t immediately attack again. Instead, it watched the caterpillar’s awkward state with mocking eyes.
Realizing the snake’s intentions, the caterpillar was furious. He had never suffered such a loss in this area. Without holding back, he compressed his body, preparing to use the same move he had used against the ape spirit.
The giant snake remained unconcerned, continuing to flick its tongue and watch the caterpillar, occasionally hissing. It was confident in its strength but soon realized it had underestimated its opponent.
The caterpillar shot forward like a white cannonball, reaching the snake in the blink of an eye. Before the snake could react, the caterpillar crashed into its head, causing it to rear back.
Though the impact was effective, the caterpillar didn’t fare well either. The snake’s head was as hard as diamond, and the collision left the caterpillar dizzy and unable to maintain his balance, crashing heavily to the ground.
The giant snake quickly recovered from the impact. Though the collision hadn’t caused any real damage, it was furious. Raising its head high, it looked down at the caterpillar with murderous intent and attacked at full speed.
The caterpillar, just regaining his senses, felt the strong killing intent and the rush of wind. He rolled to the side to avoid the attack, but before he could catch his breath, another gust of wind hit him. This time, the attack was nearly twice as fast, leaving him no time to react. He was struck hard.
“Smack!”
With a loud crash, followed by a cry of pain, a deep wound appeared on the caterpillar’s body, green blood gushing out. However, the caterpillar, having cultivated for decades, wasn’t easily defeated. Though the wound was severe, he quickly stopped the bleeding.
The injury only fueled the caterpillar’s ferocity. Ignoring the fact that the giant snake was much stronger, he compressed his body again and shot towards the snake. The snake, of course, wouldn’t be hit by the same move twice. It twisted its body, dodging the caterpillar’s charge.
The caterpillar wasn’t one to give up easily. Adjusting his body mid-air, he used the momentum of landing to compress his body even more, nearly a third more than before. This caused his previously stopped wound to reopen, purple blood spurting out. But the caterpillar seemed oblivious, shooting towards the snake again at twice the speed, hitting it squarely.
This time, the impact finally injured the snake. Its metallic scales flew off, revealing tender pink flesh beneath, and bright red blood began to flow.
Having landed a successful hit, the caterpillar used the recoil force to quickly retreat before the snake could counterattack. He repeated his tactic, bouncing around like a rubber ball, each leap leaving a wound on the snake’s body. Soon, the snake was covered in dozens of wounds, its blood staining the ground.
The snake didn’t just stand by, though. It swung its tail and twisted its body, trying to avoid the caterpillar’s attacks. But the caterpillar’s speed was too great to completely evade. Nearly every two bounces, the caterpillar would land a hit.
Despite appearing to have the upper hand, the caterpillar was clearly suffering. His head was bleeding profusely, showing the toll of his strategy. The snake’s body was nearly impervious, and each collision caused significant recoil force. Without sufficient physical strength, this force would cause self-inflicted injuries.
But the caterpillar couldn’t afford to stop. If he did, the snake would mercilessly attack, and he doubted he had the strength to launch another charge. His only option was to keep moving.
The fierce battle between the two demon beasts went unnoticed by a pair of small eyes watching them. The owner of these eyes was, of course, the ape spirit. Initially, he thought the killing intent came from the caterpillar, but he soon heard the terrifying hiss of a snake and realized another demon beast had arrived.
Torn between fear and curiosity, the ape spirit couldn’t resist peeking out to see what was happening. The sight of the bloody battle captivated him, his own beast blood boiling at the scene. He knew joining the fight would be suicidal, but he could take this chance to escape. The two battling beasts wouldn’t have time to notice him.
However, seeing the caterpillar, who had lived with him for a month, covered in blood, the ape spirit felt a pang of guilt. If not for the caterpillar bringing him fruit every day, he would have starved to death, even if he hadn’t been eaten. With this in mind, he decided to help the caterpillar.
Though the caterpillar might turn on him later, the ape spirit saw that the caterpillar’s severe injuries meant he couldn’t pose much of a threat. At worst, he could run away. So, he slowly crawled out of the hole and climbed the nearest fruit tree.
