- Chapter 16 - Good Dogs Don't Block the Way
Xiao Yun’s face darkened, but he said nothing as he continued to walk forward. When he reached Yang Xuhao, he finally spoke, “Make way, make way, good dogs don’t block the way!”
Yang Xuhao’s expression changed instantly, and he shouted angrily, “What did you say?”
“Don’t you have ears? Didn’t you hear what I said? Do I need to repeat myself?” Xiao Yun looked at Yang Xuhao with a puzzled expression.
“Are you looking for trouble?”
Yang Xuhao, who was accustomed to being treated like a star at Qingmu Peak, had never been spoken to in such a manner. He immediately raised his hand, ready to slap Xiao Yun.
Wen Qing quickly interjected, “Senior Brother Yang, are you really going to bully someone younger than you? If my Master hears about this, can you handle the consequences?”
Yang Xuhao’s hand awkwardly froze in mid-air. If it were just Wen Qing, he wouldn’t be afraid. But bringing up her Master, Yan Qinghui, was a different story. Yan Qinghui was known for not even giving face to the sect master. Yang Xuhao doubted his father had more influence than the sect master.
Realizing force wouldn’t work, Yang Xuhao decided to reason. “Junior Sister Wen Qing, did you hear what he just said? I’m just giving him a lesson on behalf of Aunt-Master Yan, so he doesn’t embarrass Xiaozhu Peak in the future.”
Wen Qing replied coldly, “Our Xiaozhu Peak disciples will be disciplined by our Master. We don’t need Qingmu Peak’s disciples to interfere! Or are you saying Qingmu Peak’s disciples can now discipline ours?”
“Of course, I didn’t mean that, Junior Sister. Don’t twist the facts!”
Yang Xuhao’s face darkened as he continued, “There are so many Junior Brothers and Sisters here who can testify. I was standing here minding my own business, and he suddenly came out to insult me. I’m his Senior Brother, after all. Shouldn’t I be allowed to discipline him?”
Yang Xuhao’s reasoning left Wen Qing momentarily speechless. After all, Yang Xuhao was a Senior Brother, and Xiao Yun calling him a dog was indeed inappropriate.
Seeing Wen Qing at a loss for words, Yang Xuhao raised his hand to strike. Xiao Yun quickly said, “Wait a minute, I didn’t insult you. Did I mention your name? I don’t even know what your name is.”
“I said good dogs don’t block the way. Why are you taking it personally?”
“Still trying to argue? That’s even more of an offense!” Yang Xuhao said as his palm moved toward Xiao Yun’s face.
Wen Qing hesitated for a moment, and it was too late to stop him.
But Xiao Yun wasn’t going to stand there and take it. Just as the slap was about to land, a technique from the Soft Water Shattering Rock Fist flashed through his mind. Instinctively, he used it.
A gentle yet powerful force emanated from Xiao Yun. With a simple raise of his hand, he caught Yang Xuhao’s palm effortlessly. Then, Xiao Yun seized his wrist, pulled forcefully, and Yang Xuhao lost his balance, being flung away by Xiao Yun.
In mid-air, Yang Xuhao managed to flip and land gracefully on the ground. But no matter how graceful his landing, being thrown by Xiao Yun was already a loss!
As a direct disciple of Qingmu Peak, Yang Xuhao was flung by a newcomer with Mixed Spiritual Roots! Even though he managed to perform an impressive mid-air 360-degree spin with a triple backflip, it couldn’t hide the fact that he was tossed by a mere novice.
Xiao Yun looked at his hands in surprise. This “Soft Water Shattering Rock Fist” was something else! It was somewhat akin to Tai Chi, utilizing soft power to counteract force, but with more aggressive moves.
Feeling triumphant after his successful move, Xiao Yun smirked, “Senior Brother, the world is such a wonderful place, yet you’re so irritable. That’s not good, not good at all…”
The surrounding Spirit Sword Sect disciples struggled to suppress their laughter, their faces turning red with the effort. Wen Qing couldn’t help but burst into laughter, feeling a significant portion of the resentment from Yang Xuhao’s previous antics dissipate.
Stepping forward to shield Xiao Yun, Wen Qing said, “Senior Brother Yang, my Junior Brother just joined Xiaozhu Peak. He’s a bit mischievous and doesn’t know the rules yet. I’ll make sure our Master disciplines him properly, so there’s no need for you to worry.”
“You’ve already made your move and vented your anger. If you’re still unsatisfied and want to spar, then let Junior Sister Wen Qing learn from your expertise.”
Yang Xuhao inwardly cursed his own carelessness. He had underestimated Xiao Yun, thinking that someone with Mixed Spiritual Roots wasn’t worth his attention. His casual slap was meant to teach a lesson, but instead, he ended up being tossed aside.
To be bested by someone he deemed insignificant was a blow to his pride. With so many onlookers, he couldn’t afford to make a second attempt at Xiao Yun. If he were to clash with Wen Qing and lose, his reputation would be utterly ruined. Even if he won, any harm to Wen Qing would surely provoke her Master, Yan Qinghui, who wouldn’t let him off easily.
Suppressing his frustration, Yang Xuhao formulated a plan. With a cold smile, he said, “I only intended to scare this Junior Brother, but he attacked me directly!”
“Very well! Xiaozhu Peak truly has remarkable disciples. This matter won’t end here. I’ll report this to the sect master and see how Aunt-Master Yan defends you!”
Wen Qing’s expression changed, not expecting Yang Xuhao to twist the truth so blatantly. As a Golden Core Realm cultivator, even a casual slap from him carried immense force. Had Xiao Yun been hit, he would have been bedridden for weeks. Yet Yang Xuhao, having failed to land a blow, shamelessly claimed the moral high ground.
Wen Qing’s opinion of Yang Xuhao plummeted further. She refused to let him pin the blame on her or trouble her Master, Yan Qinghui. She retorted, “Senior Brother Yang, your words are unbecoming of your status.”
“You know the truth better than anyone. Twisting facts like this, aren’t you afraid of being ridiculed by our fellow disciples?”
Yang Xuhao sneered, “Twisting facts? Junior Sister Wen Qing, everyone saw clearly. I didn’t harm this Junior Brother at all, yet he flung me aside. Isn’t that the truth?”
“Do you really think someone at the Golden Core Realm could be tossed by a new disciple?”
“And this new disciple has Mixed Spiritual Roots, no less! If I hadn’t been unguarded and unwilling to harm him, how could he have succeeded?”
The onlookers nodded in agreement. Indeed, Senior Brother Yang was one of the Spirit Sword Sect’s top four talents. If he hadn’t held back, how could a Mixed Spiritual Roots disciple have thrown him?
