No Girl Can Walk Away Smiling After Checking Her Boyfriend's Phone - Chapter 7
That night, I slept fitfully.
In my dreams, I was a child again, carefully applying medicine to the bruises at the corner of Jiang Ling’s mouth with a cotton swab.
He hadn’t reacted much, but I started crying from the heartache.
Then, the scene shifted to the time Jiang Ling and I watched the sunrise on the mountain. The wind was strong, and his cool hand gently wrapped around mine, together tucked into his pocket.
But eventually, it turned into Jiang Ling holding Zhou Xuan, both walking past me indifferently, not leaving a single expression for me.
Everything in the dream felt too real, so much so that when I woke up the next day and saw Zhou Xuan downstairs, I was completely stunned.
Previously, I had only seen her in videos on Jiang Ling’s phone.
Thinking carefully, this seemed to be our first meeting.
Honestly, Zhou Xuan was quite beautiful, with fair skin and a slender, long neck.
She sat on the sofa, slightly tilting her face, with what seemed like a cut on her head and some faint traces of blood.
Jiang Ling was applying medicine to her.
His head was lowered, one hand holding her chin steady, while the other gently pressed on the wound on her forehead.
His movements were very careful.
Zhou Xuan couldn’t help but let out a “hiss.”
Jiang Ling’s actions visibly slowed.
The light just happened to stream through the blinds.
It illuminated the tension and worry in his eyes clearly.
And standing at the staircase, I saw this scene particularly clearly.
The hand holding the suitcase involuntarily loosened suddenly, making a sound.
Hearing the noise, Jiang Ling turned his head, frowned at me, but said nothing.
Instead, Zhou Xuan spoke first, introducing herself openly and explaining that Jiang Ling had to go out to meet a client today, and she was here to deliver documents.
“The elevator in your apartment is broken, and I accidentally fell while climbing the stairs earlier. I’m really sorry for causing you trouble.”
I didn’t say anything, pulling the suitcase straight to the door.
As I opened the door, my hand was grabbed by Jiang Ling.
He looked down at me, his tone impatient, “Haven’t you had enough?”
His grip was strong, my wrist hurt from the pressure, and I struggled with all my might, but he only tightened his hold.
In the tugging, a gray watch on Jiang Ling’s wrist was revealed.
I suddenly paused.
On Jiang Ling’s birthday last month, I bought a silver watch to give him, only to find he already had a gray one on his wrist.
I couldn’t tell the brand, but judging by its style and design, it was clearly expensive.
Jiang Ling casually said it was a gift from a friend.
Now, Jiang Ling’s family conditions are much better than mine, but he has always been considerate of my feelings. That was the first time I felt inferior and pressured due to the economic disparity.
I didn’t show much at the time, but Jiang Ling still noticed.
He sighed softly, hugged me from behind, his warm lips resting against my ear, his voice low and gentle,
“It’s not important what watch I wear, what’s important is that it’s from you.”
Since that day, Jiang Ling put away the expensive watch and wore the one I gave him every day.
Unexpectedly, on the first day after our breakup, he wore that gray watch again.
I suddenly found it somewhat amusing and said calmly, “Move aside.”
Jiang Ling realized something too, quickly withdrawing his hand, his voice a bit unnatural,
“The client I’m meeting today is very important to the company…”
Before he finished speaking, Zhou Xuan suddenly spoke up, reminding him it was time to meet the client.
I glanced at her, thought of something, and asked Jiang Ling, “Is the watch from her?”
Jiang Ling remained silent.
After a long time, he said, “Chen Nan, it’s just a watch.”
I didn’t want to say more to him, picked up my phone, and before I could dial, Chen Rui arrived.
Chen Rui is my younger brother, five years younger than me.
My mom never gave up on having a son, seeking medical advice everywhere, trying various folk remedies and acupuncture therapies, losing quite a bit of money in the process.
Finally, when I was five, she got pregnant again.
Over the years, my mom has given all her favoritism to my brother, remaining cold towards me, but my relationship with my brother is quite good.
“Only one suitcase?” Chen Rui scratched his head, looking hesitant.
“Yes.”
“Uh, well…” Chen Rui looked more conflicted, “I thought girls usually move with lots of bags, I couldn’t handle it alone, so I called Yiqing over too.”
I was slightly taken aback, “Qiao Yiqing?”
