Netherworld's Spirit Envoy - Chapter 110 - Entangled by Chen Zike
Leilei seemed to have realized something as well. She pointed at my back and retreated, along with everyone else, who huddled together, staring at me with fear.
I feigned composure and walked forward as usual, saying, “Why are you all so scared? It’s fine!”
As I approached, they retreated in terror, trying to distance themselves from me.
“Sir…” Lin Shishi’s trembling voice echoed in my mind. Before she could speak further, I interrupted her, “Don’t say it, I know…”
Lin Shishi hesitated, but I had no idea how to let go of the person behind me. I could feel that it was no longer me holding him, but him holding me, and with quite some force.
After taking a few deep breaths, I abruptly turned around. Even though I was mentally prepared, I was still choked by my own saliva when I saw that almost deformed and terrifying face.
“Cough, cough…” After bending over and coughing for a while, I slowly said, “Can you let go of me? My hand’s numb.”
The person just stared blankly at me, as if he hadn’t heard me at all.
Ignoring everything else, I gritted my teeth and shook my hand hard, then dashed for the door. But when I reached the classroom door, it wouldn’t open!
Meanwhile, everyone else kept their distance, still avoiding me with fearful faces. I felt utterly deflated and looked at Leilei helplessly, “Can you all stop avoiding me? I’m in this mess trying to help you. Can’t you help me?”
To my surprise, as soon as I finished speaking, all twenty-something people shook their heads in unison.
“You all…” Angrily, I took a few steps forward, and they immediately stepped back several steps in fear, trying to further distance themselves from me.
At that moment, I once again sensed a heavy weight on my back, something cold pressing against me.
Turning my head slightly, I met eyes with an eyeball dangling on a face, which almost made my heart stop in terror. Chen Zike had crawled back onto me.
“Just tell me what you want, can’t you? Stop clinging to me like this, okay?” I was completely out of patience. Even though I was haunted by a ghost, if you want my life, fine, but can you stop clinging to me so mindlessly? It’s really frustrating!
“Xiaofei, you’re really brave…” came Leilei’s cautious praise from behind me.
At that moment, I really wanted to reply, “If you’re willing, I’d love to switch places. Now is really not the time to play hero.”
I glared at Chen Zike, and he looked back at me. We were locked in a standoff, neither of us moving or speaking.
Suddenly, just as I was losing patience, Chen Zike started laughing, “Heh heh…”
His laugh was eerie and chilling, especially in the vast classroom where it echoed, making it all the more bone-chilling.
Some of the more timid girls burst into tears, terrified.
Can they stop adding to the chaos? It’s not them being haunted, yet they’re here cooperating with this ghost’s scary antics to frighten me. Can’t they understand my plight?
Chen Zike continued laughing at me, his toothless mouth splitting open, releasing gobs of black blood, and the stench followed.
I gulped hard, nearly throwing up my dinner, “Since you won’t speak, then I’ll…”
Before I could finish my sentence, I clenched my fist and swung it hard at Chen Zike’s head. In an instant, we were entangled together. I took the opportunity to shout, “Don’t just stand there, come and help!”
There’s strength in numbers, and I refuse to believe we can’t subdue a single malicious ghost with so many people!
But as my fist swung, Chen Zike’s figure vanished. I looked around but saw no sign of him.
Such a large classroom, dimly lit by a few candles, barely revealed anything. I shouted urgently, “Turn on the lights, quickly turn on the lights!”
Moments later, the classroom was bright. Everyone gathered together, standing across from me, looking helpless. Some were even searching for Chen Zike’s figure, but he was nowhere to be seen.
As my gaze swept across the students, I suddenly felt something amiss. Looking back, that odd feeling grew stronger.
My sixth sense told me that Chen Zike was hiding among the students, but with so many people, how was I supposed to find him?
Raising my hand, I let my fingers glide over the faces of each student, studying each one carefully. Even when I saw Chen Zike hiding among them, I maintained a neutral expression.
“Sir, he’s right there, act quickly!” Lin Shishi had also noticed him and urged me to take action.
No, it’s too risky. If I react hastily now, Chen Zike, desperate, might harm the students. What should I do?
After some thought, I slowly lowered my hand and said coldly, “I suspect Chen Zike is hiding among you. Everyone spread out, and each of you ask the person next to you a secret about yourself. It doesn’t matter what it is, but if they answer correctly, it proves they’re real. Understand?”
For safety’s sake, I moved closer to them. This way, I could protect the students and seize the opportunity to catch Chen Zike.
One by one, questions were asked and everyone responded correctly. As I approached a disheveled student standing quietly, not moving, I felt sure she was Chen Zike.
I asked, “Who organized today’s ghost story party?”
The student didn’t lift her head and stood silently. My gaze grew colder, as I was ready for action. This student had to be Chen Zike in disguise.
Just as I was about to act, a voice suddenly came from behind me, “What’s going on? Why is everyone just standing here?”
I turned around quickly and saw Qin Wenwen standing there as if nothing had happened. I was stunned, and when I looked back in front of me, Chen Zike was gone!
As I was about to resume my search, my hand was suddenly grabbed. It was Qin Wenwen, who cheerfully said, “Thank you for saving me earlier. I know you like Leilei, but it’s clear she doesn’t have feelings for you. If you’re willing, I hope you’ll consider dating me.”
The situation took an unexpected twist. The tense, chilling narrative suddenly turned into an underdog triumph.
I was caught off guard and looked into the crowd, spotting Leilei. She stood there with a blank expression, clearly looking forward to the show.
I quickly shook my head at her to show my innocence, but before I knew it, Qin Wenwen jumped onto me and planted a kiss firmly on my lips!
Even though Qin Wenwen is the campus queen, and even if she were the most beautiful woman in the world, I simply don’t like her. Yet, I’ve never encountered such an assertive girl who would just throw herself at a guy and force a kiss!
At that moment, I truly felt taken advantage of. Leilei’s gaze was cold, but there was a faint smirk on her lips.
She was definitely mocking me, for sure. I’m really innocent here, and I would never succumb to Qin Wenwen’s beauty. Leilei, you have to believe me.
However, Qin Wenwen’s grip was incredibly strong. I couldn’t push her away even though I’m a guy. I watched helplessly as Leilei let out a disdainful snort, turned around, and gave the classroom door a powerful tug.
Earlier, I had tried with all my might to open that door without any success. I was shocked that she managed to open it so effortlessly using all her strength.
With such force, she almost stumbled through the door.
When she looked back, she saw Qin Wenwen clinging to me like an octopus. Just as Leilei was about to leave, I tried to go after her to stop her, but as soon as I moved, Qin Wenwen pinned me down, rendering me immobile.
“Hmph!” Leilei snorted and strode out. The other students, who had been standing by awkwardly, saw the door open and Leilei leaving. They glanced at me and then at the open door, and without any hesitation, they all bolted outside.
“Hey, don’t go! Wait, please wait!” No matter how much I called out, none of the students stopped; they all left.
I estimated how long it would take them to leave the building. Once I figured enough time had passed, I slowly turned my head to Qin Wenwen, who was still hanging onto my neck. “They’re all gone now. Is there really any need for you to keep up this act?”
Initially, I was taken aback, but then I realized her behavior was too out of the ordinary. I’m well aware of my own charm, or lack thereof, and Qin Wenwen certainly wouldn’t kiss me out of the blue.
Qin Wenwen suddenly smiled, jumped off me, and looked directly at me. She leaned in close to my ear and whispered, “Now that it’s just the two of us, what should I do with you?”
