Mysterious Revival - Chapter 11 - Gradual Revival
Under the dim light, a bluish-black baby clung to Wang Shanshan, its pitch-black eyes scanning the surroundings. At that moment, everyone felt their hearts on the verge of collapse.
“Ahhh!”
Screams erupted as fear consumed the group, prompting them to instinctively flee from Wang Shanshan.
“Damn it! That ghost baby couldn’t attack me, so it’s targeting someone else now?” Yang Jian clenched his fists tightly, a sense of helplessness washing over him.
He wanted to save her but dared not move closer.
The ghost eye on him could only pierce through the darkness of the ghost domain, allowing him to protect himself instinctively. But it offered no means to deal with the ghost baby.
“Run.”
Gritting his teeth, his first instinct was to escape.
“Help… help me…”
Wang Shanshan gasped painfully, her mouth opening and closing like a dying fish. Her trembling hand reached out toward Yang Jian, as if clinging to her last shred of hope.
Though Yang Jian didn’t turn back, the ghost eye on the back of his head saw everything.
He saw Wang Shanshan’s desperate plea for help, her anguished expression, and her weakening arm.
This scene mirrored the moment Fang Jing had pushed him into the restroom-eerily similar.
Wang Shanshan hadn’t lost consciousness yet. Despite her overwhelming fear, she clung to the hope that someone might save her in her moment of despair.
“If I leave now, how am I any different from Fang Jing? Sacrificing a classmate’s life to stall a vengeful ghost just to save myself?”
Yang Jian wrestled with his thoughts. “Wang Shanshan isn’t like Duan Peng or Zheng Fei. Duan Peng and Zheng Fei deserved their fate-they tried to kill me to save themselves.”
“And now, I’m technically a Ghost Tamer. I possess the power of a vengeful ghost. I’m no longer just an ordinary person. Saving her doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll die.”
In that instant, countless thoughts raced through his mind.
The ghost eye on the back of his head continued to watch Wang Shanshan-her agonized face, her trembling arm slowly falling limp.
If he didn’t act now, Wang Shanshan would surely be strangled to death by the ghost baby.
“Damn it!”
Yang Jian cursed and turned back, sprinting toward her. Without hesitation, he punched the ghost baby squarely on the head.
If this scene were uploaded online, he’d undoubtedly be crucified by keyboard warriors1 for violently attacking a baby.
The ghost baby’s head caved in slightly from the punch, but it showed no signs of injury. Its pitch-black eyes stared at Yang Jian with an eerie intensity.
“Wa-ga-ga…”
With a chilling cry, the ghost baby seemed enraged. It released Wang Shanshan and lunged at Yang Jian, its face splitting open as its mouth stretched beyond human limits, swallowing half of his arm in one bite.
Cold, sticky, and consuming-it felt like his arm was being sucked into a black hole. No matter how he struggled, he couldn’t pull it out. His entire body seemed to be sinking into that pitch-black maw.
“Cough… cough…”
Wang Shanshan collapsed to the ground, gasping for air.
“Am I going to be eaten alive?”
Yang Jian felt his body dissolving, as if his flesh and blood were being absorbed into the ghost baby’s mouth. He was moments away from being devoured whole.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his arm.
It felt as though his flesh was being torn apart, his soul crushed.
The ghost baby let out a pained shriek, spitting out Yang Jian’s arm. It then fell to the ground lifelessly, scrambling away in retreat. Within moments, it vanished into the stairwell.
“Damn it, not this feeling again.”
Yang Jian broke into a cold sweat, his body trembling from the pain as he let out a cry of anguish.
His arm, where the ghost baby had bitten, glowed faintly red. The flesh appeared torn open, and several red eyeballs emerged from the wound.
Previously, there had only been one ghost eye on his hand. After the restroom incident, a second eye had appeared on the back of his head.
But now, after being bitten, four additional red eyes had emerged all at once.
The number of red eyes had surged dramatically.
It was likely this sudden increase that had forced the ghost baby to retreat.
“Yang Jian, are you okay? Are you hurt?”
Wang Shanshan, still shaken from her near-death experience, looked at him with a mix of fear and gratitude. Despite her terror, she knew Yang Jian had saved her.
As Yang Jian writhed in pain on the ground, she reached out to help him up.
Suddenly, Yang Jian’s movements froze. One of his arms twisted unnaturally, bending backward in a way no human could manage. It grabbed Wang Shanshan’s hand.
On his arm, five ghost eyes opened simultaneously, their gaze fixed on her.
“Ahhh!”
Wang Shanshan screamed, collapsing to the ground in terror.
But soon, the five ghost eyes closed again.
Yang Jian’s voice broke the silence. “I’m fine. Turns out being a good person doesn’t pay off. Trying to save you almost cost me my life. Guess I’ll never be as ruthless as Fang Jing.”
As the pain subsided, he stood up, pale-faced, leaning against the wall as his muscles twitched uncontrollably.
The soul-crushing agony was something he never wanted to experience again.
“Being bitten by that thing felt like my entire body was dissolving. Is this the power of Zhou Zheng’s ghost baby? It’s terrifying… and it seems to grow stronger.”
Yang Jian glanced at his arm, sensing something writhing beneath his skin, ready to emerge at any moment.
The presence of the ghost eyes was becoming increasingly overwhelming.
They were undoubtedly reviving.
“I’m sorry… I dragged you into this,” Wang Shanshan whispered.
“It’s fine. Saving you was my choice. I just didn’t want to become someone like Fang Jing, sacrificing others to save myself. Besides, the moment I was pushed into the restroom, I was already dead. Now, I’m just clinging to life with the power of a vengeful ghost. Every minute I survive is borrowed time. Even if I hadn’t saved you, I wouldn’t have lasted much longer.”
Yang Jian’s words carried the weight of his grim realization.
“Don’t just stand there. Let’s go. If that thing comes back, we’re all dead.” He gritted his teeth, suppressing the pain.
“I… I can’t move. I’m too weak,” Wang Shanshan said, her voice trembling.
“Movies don’t lie-when danger strikes, women always slow you down and get people killed.” Yang Jian’s tone was sharp, but his actions betrayed his words.
He noticed two bluish-black handprints on the back of Wang Shanshan’s neck, left by the ghost baby. They resembled tattoos, stark against her skin.
The bluish-black hue was spreading, like an aggressive infection.
His heart sank, but he chose not to mention it. Now wasn’t the time.
The ghost baby had only been temporarily repelled. It could return at any moment.
If it attacked a few more times, Yang Jian feared he’d meet the same fate as Zhou Zheng-killed by the revival of a vengeful ghost.
“I’ll help you walk. You can still move, right?” He supported Wang Shanshan, feeling her trembling body.
Her fear was palpable, but she instinctively leaned on him for support.
“I… I can still walk,” Wang Shanshan replied, her voice shaky.
Her body pressed against Yang Jian’s, her soft chest brushing against his. It wasn’t intentional seduction-just the natural response of a terrified woman seeking protection from a strong man.
At this moment, Yang Jian fit the bill perfectly.
