My Sister Is Acting Strange - Chapter 84 - Long-Distance Run
Tang Huaijin approached Shen Yiqiu and asked, “Teacher Shen, what’s up?” Since there were people around, he refrained from calling her Shen-Jie.
Shen Yiqiu gave him a once-over and said, “Nothing, have a seat. I heard you signed up for the long-distance run?”
Tang Huaijin sat down on the chair next to her, nodded with a smile, and said, “Yeah, just for some exercise.”
Shen Yiqiu responded indifferently and turned her head away.
After waiting for a while without Shen Yiqiu saying anything, Tang Huaijin glanced at her in puzzlement, stood up, and asked, “Teacher Shen, should I head back?”
Shen Yiqiu turned to him, squinting slightly, her tone somewhat unfriendly, “Why go back? Just sit here. That side is full of girls, don’t you know to keep your distance?”
Tang Huaijin’s expression turned a bit awkward, hesitated for a while, and then sat back down.
Seeing this, Shen Yiqiu snorted lightly, took out a small notebook and a pen from her bag, and handed them to Tang Huaijin, saying, “As the Chinese representative of the class, write an account of the school sports meet.”
The first row where Shen Yiqiu was seated had tables, and writing an account was quite simple for him. Tang Huaijin nodded helplessly and started writing on the table.
Watching Tang Huaijin’s profile, Shen Yiqiu pursed her lips, shifted her position, and moved closer to him, sitting tightly against him.
Tang Huaijin’s eyelid twitched, hesitated, and said, “Shen-Jie…”
Shen Yiqiu’s expression revealed nothing unusual. Her lips parted slightly as she explained calmly, “Just write, I’m checking how you’re doing.”
“Oh.” Tang Huaijin responded, bracing himself to continue writing.
After a while, Shen Yiqiu seemed to grow tired of sitting and changed her posture, her leg encased in stockings lightly brushing against Tang Huaijin.
Tang Huaijin paused his writing hand, felt no further movement, and continued writing.
It wasn’t until he felt the soft, supple sensation nudging closer, gently rubbing against his leg a few times, that Tang Huaijin put down his pen, turned to Shen Yiqiu, and showed a stiff smile, saying, “Shen-Jie, I’ll finish writing later. It’s time for me to prepare.”
Upon hearing this, Shen Yiqiu glanced at the field. Indeed, it was time for the men’s long-distance run. She then nonchalantly withdrew her leg and nodded gently, “Alright, go ahead.”
Tang Huaijin breathed a sigh of relief, left his jacket on the table, stood up, and walked towards the staging area.
Mainly because his pants were made of athletic fabric, very thin.
And the material of the stockings was also very thin and smooth.
Tang Huaijin feared that if there were a few more brushes, he wouldn’t dare stand up.
In the stands, Xia Xinya and Bai Yuerou were watching a movie. Seeing Tang Huaijin leave, the two best friends simultaneously raised their heads, instinctively exchanged glances, and their expressions turned somewhat awkward.
Just then, they heard Shen Yiqiu below encouraging everyone to cheer for Tang Huaijin. Bai Yuerou smiled awkwardly, stood up, and said, “Looks like it’s Jin’s turn to go on. I’ll go cheer for him.”
Xia Xinya nodded hesitantly and followed her to the front of the track.
Tang Huaijin reached the staging area, took off his jacket, revealing the white athletic vest underneath, and began warming up.
A man chatting with a few others nearby noticed Tang Huaijin, his eyes lit up, and he walked over with a smile, offering him a bottle of water, “Hey, want some water?”
Tang Huaijin glanced at the man, who seemed unfamiliar, someone he hadn’t seen before, and smiled, waving his hand, “Thanks, but no thanks.”
“No worries, you’re running the long-distance too? You look pretty fit.” The man, unfazed by the refusal, smiled and continued to chat.
“Not bad.” For some reason, Tang Huaijin felt the man’s smile was insincere, but he responded with a polite smile, “Is there something you need?”
“Not really, just wanted to make friends.” The man smiled, extending his hand, “You probably haven’t seen me before, I don’t come to school often, busy with family business.”
“My name is Qin Shijie.”
Upon hearing the name, Tang Huaijin withdrew the hand he was about to extend and said coolly, “No need.”
Qin Shijie was someone Tang Huaijin had a strong impression of, though they had never met.
Not to mention the trouble he caused with Li Tong, just the fact that he wanted to harm Xia Xinya was enough for Tang Huaijin to not hit him, let alone associate with such a person.
What a joke, the mischievous girl might be a bit of a troublemaker, but if anyone wanted to harm her, Tang Huaijin would definitely refuse.
Qin Shijie’s hand hung awkwardly in the air, but he acted as if nothing was amiss, casually withdrawing it, and said softly, “No need for that, buddy, just making friends.”
Tang Huaijin chuckled lightly and asked, “Make friends with you, become the next Li Tong?”
Qin Shijie also put away the smile on his face, sneered, and said, “Li Tong? He’s just a fool. I admit I didn’t handle things well before, but we’re all adults here, only talking about interests, not right or wrong. Interested in joining me?”
The implication was a direct admission that he was behind the previous incidents. Tang Huaijin chuckled and said, “Sorry, not interested.”
After being refused, Qin Shijie didn’t get angry and continued to smile, saying, “That Xia Family girl has quite a temper. Mixing with her, who knows when you’ll end up annoying her.”
Tang Huaijin’s tone turned cold as he said, “Good or bad, she’s my friend. Do I need you to tell me?”
“Alright, no problem.” Qin Shijie smiled and said, “But my door is always open for you. If you change your mind, remember to come find me.”
Tang Huaijin sneered, ignored him, and went to warm up.
After Tang Huaijin left, two of Qin Shijie’s followers came up, looking displeased, and said, “Jie-Ge, do you really value him so much?”
These two were direct descendants of the Qin Family. Qin Shijie looked at Tang Huaijin’s back and snorted coldly, “Value him? If it weren’t for knowing he’s close to that Xia Family girl, he’d be nothing.”
“Should we find someone to teach him a lesson?”
“Are you stupid? Teach him a lesson? Even if you cripple him, what’s the point? Huh?” Qin Shijie looked at the speaker with some disappointment and said, “And is now the time to do such things? Xia Yunzhu is just waiting for me to make a move.”
Seeing his still somewhat indignant expression, Qin Shijie sneered and said, “Don’t worry, once the Xia Family falls, won’t we be able to handle him however we want? Alright, go to the competition, I’m leaving.”
…
Tang Huaijin naturally didn’t know about the conversation over there. After warming up, he went to the track to prepare.
As soon as the starting gun fired, Tang Huaijin rushed out first, causing those around him to glance sideways, amused to follow behind him, letting Tang Huaijin face the wind. They all found it funny; who starts a long-distance run by sprinting?
But soon, they realized the problem. After two laps, why hadn’t his speed decreased?
They gradually couldn’t keep up with Tang Huaijin’s pace, being left far behind.
Running to his class’s area, Tang Huaijin was surprised to find that among the crowd cheering him on beside the track, not only were Xia Xinya and Bai Yuerou present, but Lin Ruoxi had also joined them.
“Jin, go for it!”
“Stupid jerk, run faster.”
Xia Xinya and Lin Ruoxi were both excitedly shouting encouragement to Tang Huaijin, seemingly competing to see whose voice was louder.
Bai Yuerou stood beside them, smiling gently, and when Tang Huaijin looked over, she gave him a thumbs-up.
Tang Huaijin smiled warmly, waved at them, and quickened his pace a bit more.
Because the system’s reward of human extreme physical fitness was gradually improving, Tang Huaijin wasn’t sure how strong he was now. He hadn’t intended to run too fast, just maintaining a moderate speed, but soon he had lapped them twice.
Feeling it might not be appropriate, he gradually slowed down, appearing exhausted, and leisurely crossed the finish line.
Even so, the sports teacher timing at the finish line excitedly slapped the table and shouted, “16 minutes and 30 seconds!”
He rushed over from the timing stand, grabbed Tang Huaijin’s arm, and said excitedly, “Which class are you from? You broke the record, do you know that? More than a minute faster than the previous record. Interested in pursuing sports?”
Tang Huaijin smiled awkwardly and quickly shook his head.
The sports teacher persisted, saying, “And this time was even with your initial mistake. Have you never considered athletics before? Trust me, you’re definitely a promising talent. Train with me in sports. Who is your counselor”
Tang Huaijin was being pestered with no way out when a cool voice suddenly rang out, “He’s mine, Teacher Tian, do you have any business?”
It was the beautiful teacher who had come over, holding Tang Huaijin’s sports jacket. Shen Yiqiu squinted at the hand holding Tang Huaijin’s arm, her tone somewhat unfriendly.
Teacher Tian was just planning his future when he turned to look at Shen Yiqiu and smiled, “Counselor Shen, just in time, you’re here. Please persuade him to train with me in sports. This young man definitely has a bright future.”
“No need.” Shen Yiqiu stepped forward, pulled Tang Huaijin away from him, and said softly, “If he pursues a specialty, it will be in calligraphy.”
With that, she led Tang Huaijin back to their class’s area, leaving Teacher Tian with a look of regret behind.
