My Sister Is Acting Strange - Chapter 31 - Applying Medicine
In the morning, after breakfast, Tang Huaijin managed to coax his sister into giving him a shy kiss before he left the house, feeling quite pleased with himself.
Meanwhile, at the Xia Family villa, Xia Xinya dressed up with determination to study hard and left home. But soon after getting into the car, she remembered that she hadn’t brought her Chinese textbook, as she disliked the subject. She quickly asked the driver to turn back.
Aunt Song opened the door for Xia Xinya, looking surprised. “Miss, why are you back?”
“I forgot my Chinese book,” Xia Xinya said hurriedly, taking off her boots. Seeing Aunt Song still blocking her way, she complained, “Aunt Song, I’m going to be late.”
Aunt Song hesitated before stepping aside, then shouted, “Madam, Miss is back!”
Xia Xinya glanced at Aunt Song curiously, then dashed upstairs.
As she reached her bedroom door, she saw her mother, Xia Yunzhu, hurriedly exiting her room.
Xia Xinya’s expression turned cold, and she asked icily, “What were you doing in my room?”
Xia Yunzhu’s face showed a hint of discomfort, and she forced a smile. “I was just checking if you needed help tidying up your room.”
“Aunt Song takes care of that. I told you not to come into my room,” Xia Xinya replied harshly.
“Xinya, I’m your mother,” Xia Yunzhu said, her expression stiffening at Xia Xinya’s hostile attitude, yet she tried to maintain a smile. “I just wanted to check on you.”
“Ha, now you want to care? Where were you before? I don’t need it!” Xia Xinya scoffed, brushing past her mother. “Move.”
After Xia Yunzhu stepped aside, Xia Xinya slammed the door shut, leaving her mother looking somewhat defeated outside.
Who would have thought that Xia Yunzhu, the commanding president of the Xia Group, would be so helpless at home with her daughter?
Once the footsteps outside faded, Xia Xinya leaned against the door, her expression shifting, and she began searching her room.
She found her nearly new Chinese textbook in the desk drawer, packed it into her bag, and was about to leave when she hesitated and returned to the desk, opening the drawer where she kept her diary.
The diary was intact, but Xia Xinya’s eyes narrowed as she noticed something amiss.
The diary, her most private possession, should have been at the very back of the drawer, but it was slightly out of place, as if it had been hastily closed, causing it to slide forward.
Xia Xinya squinted slightly, silently returning the diary to its original position.
…
Tang Huaijin arrived at school and had just settled into his seat when Bai Yuerou approached, looking concerned and holding a small bottle.
Yesterday, Bai Yuerou had somehow learned about Tang Huaijin’s injury, likely from Xia Xinya, and had asked about his condition on WeChat.
Despite a hint of fatigue on her face, Bai Yuerou smiled gently and said, “I heard you can’t stand the taste of watermelon frost, so I brought this for you.” She showed him the small porcelain bottle.
“What’s this?” Tang Huaijin asked curiously, eyeing the bottle, which resembled something from a martial arts novel.
“It’s a secret remedy from my mother’s hometown. I used it when I bit my tongue as a child,” Bai Yuerou explained, her cheeks slightly flushed. “It doesn’t have a strong smell, and it tastes sweet with honey.”
“That’s great, thank you, Yuerou,” Tang Huaijin said, delighted, as he took the bottle from her.
“Apply it now; it works quickly,” Bai Yuerou urged, noticing Tang Huaijin carefully stowing the bottle in his bag without using it.
“Uh… I’ll apply it at home. It’s inconvenient here,” Tang Huaijin replied, grateful but hesitant to use it.
Bai Yuerou studied his eyes, realizing his reluctance, and pouted slightly. “I heard that the nerves in the tongue are sensitive. If it doesn’t heal properly, there could be aftereffects.” She reached out, saying, “If it’s inconvenient, let me apply it for you.”
“This…” Tang Huaijin hesitated.
“Don’t you want to use my medicine?” Bai Yuerou felt a bit hurt. She had thought of this remedy immediately after hearing about his injury and had spent the night preparing it.
“No, it’s not that,” Tang Huaijin said awkwardly, waving his hand. “Okay, I’ll apply it now. I’ll do it myself.”
Bai Yuerou relented, retracting her hand and giving him a knowing look. Those familiar with her knew she was gentle and rarely got angry, but when she did, it was hard to appease her.
Tang Huaijin smiled wryly, took out the small porcelain bottle, and removed the wooden stopper, sniffing it lightly. It had no strong smell, only a faint floral scent.
Feeling less pressured, he was about to apply the medicine but encountered a problem.
The medicine was a paste, sticky like honey, and couldn’t be poured out.
To use it, he needed to scoop a bit and apply it to the wound.
But the bottle had a narrow neck, not wide enough for his fingers. He couldn’t use a pen; that would be unsanitary.
Seeing Tang Huaijin’s predicament, Bai Yuerou giggled and teased him, “Let me do it.”
“…” Tang Huaijin chuckled awkwardly and handed the bottle back to Bai Yuerou.
Bai Yuerou’s hands were delicate, her skin smooth and soft, easily reaching into the bottle to scoop out a bit of the paste. She said softly, “Open your mouth.”
Her voice was soothing, gentle enough to calm anyone.
Tang Huaijin thought Bai Yuerou would make a great nurse, and obediently opened his mouth, exposing the wound on his tongue.
Since Tang Huaijin was sitting, Bai Yuerou couldn’t see the wound clearly standing up, so she sat beside him.
The wound on his tongue wouldn’t scab, but it was visible as a slightly darker area.
Bai Yuerou hesitated, then gently held Tang Huaijin’s head, her face flushed, and whispered, “Don’t move, I don’t want to hurt you.”
Seeing Tang Huaijin blink in acknowledgment, she carefully applied the paste.
Bai Yuerou worked delicately, her expression focused, gently applying the medicine. Her fingers occasionally brushed against his lips, making him feel a tickling sensation.
The paste was indeed miraculous; it felt cool, and the stinging pain subsided significantly.
“What are you two doing?!” Just as Bai Yuerou finished applying the medicine, her eyes sparkling, a voice exclaimed behind them.
Bai Yuerou jumped, quickly pulling her hand back, accidentally brushing against his tongue, leaving her fingers slightly damp, feeling an odd sensation.
She turned to see Xia Xinya standing at the door, glaring at them incredulously.
Xia Xinya was shocked. She had just entered the classroom and saw them sitting closely, Bai Yuerou holding Tang Huaijin’s head, blushing, looking like a couple about to kiss.
What was going on?
Had her home been stolen overnight?
She stormed over, glaring at Bai Yuerou, then pointed at Tang Huaijin, her voice trembling with anger, “You, you, you.”
Tang Huaijin swatted her hand away, seeing her expression like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, knowing what she was thinking. He handed Bai Yuerou a tissue, then looked at Xia Xinya, saying, “Can you think normally? Yuerou was just applying medicine.” He shook the small porcelain bottle.
Seeing Xia Xinya’s embarrassed expression, Tang Huaijin teased, “Oh, I get it. You’re worried people won’t know. You’ve made progress, being more straightforward.”
Xia Xinya blushed, glaring at him, and quickly pulled Bai Yuerou back to her seat.
Tang Huaijin chuckled, feeling content. At home, he had his sister; at school, he had the gentle Bai Yuerou, and he could occasionally tease Xia Xinya.
This school life was pretty good.
